Background / History

Laffey was Ye Ming's starter ship when he began Azure Lane. She accompanied him through the Port District's earliest period, reached 100 affection quickly, and became his first Oath Ship after he obtained a ring; their affection later reached 200. Though Ye Ming eventually acquired stronger ships, Laffey retained a uniquely important place in his memories. 1

In Laffey's memories, the Port District initially consisted only of herself and the Commander. She recalls his clumsy early commands, unusual equipment choices, and dangerous single-line sorties. As Ye Ming appeared less frequently, drills and sorties ceased; eventually, he disappeared entirely. The Ship-Girls exhausted the Port District's resources while searching for him, then dispersed into different factions to continue the search. 2

Laffey had been operating alongside Enterprise when she fell asleep during a sortie. Upon waking, she found herself in Ye Ming's world and followed her vague sense of his presence until she found him at a comic convention. She immediately identified herself as his first Oath Ship and demonstrated her strength by cracking the marble floor beneath her foot. 1 2

After Ye Ming invited her to live with him, Laffey accepted without hesitation. She fears being abandoned again, but insists that simply being with the Commander gives her life meaning. 2 Her original wedding dress remained with Enterprise in the Port District, making a replacement wedding dress her first major wish after arriving in the new world. 2 13

Appearance

Laffey resembles a small, sleepy-looking girl with exceptionally refined features, porcelain-clear skin, wine-red eyes, and lustrous white hair. 1

Personality

Laffey is characteristically drowsy, absent-minded, and innocent. She falls asleep easily, including while being carried by Ye Ming, yet her lethargic demeanor does not prevent her from noticing the emotional states of those around her. 2 33

She is deeply devoted to Ye Ming and views herself as a Ship-Girl whose purpose is to remain at the Commander's side. She is reluctant to burden him with her loneliness, longing for her Port District companions, or disappointment over her missing wedding dress. 2 13 Even when she recognizes that Ye Ming is hiding something, she prefers to quietly accommodate him rather than make things difficult. 13

Despite her apparent naivety, Laffey is emotionally perceptive and unexpectedly mature in tense situations. She accepts that Ye Ming has other Oath Ships, encourages him to give rings to their Port District sisters, and helps defuse awkward confrontations involving his other relationships. 10 33

She is also mildly mischievous, particularly where alcohol and chocolate are concerned. Laffey has tried to hide red wine in shopping carts, negotiated for chocolate liqueurs, and admitted that she once obtained alcohol with Tashkent from Ming's shop. 5 16 41

After moving into Ye Ming's apartment, Laffey adapts to everyday life through shopping trips, hair washing, meals, a new phone, and outings for her wedding dress. Her presence motivates Ye Ming to work harder and write a novel to support their life together. 2 5 16

Longing for the Port District

Laffey repeatedly expresses concern for the Ship-Girls left behind, especially Enterprise and the other Oath Ships. Though she wants to reunite with them, she initially avoids voicing the depth of that loneliness so as not to pressure Ye Ming. 2 13 41

Enterprise's Approach

While with Yae Sakura, Laffey senses what she believes may be Enterprise's presence. Enterprise soon confirms that Laffey has arrived in the new world and concludes that Ye Ming must be there as well. 50
