Background / History

Eiji was reincarnated into the Zenin Family. Before awakening as a sorcerer, he understood enough about cursed techniques to fear that the family could track him through personal belongings. The Zenin Family had already decided to dispose of him to uphold its rules. When six-year-old Eiji failed to awaken a technique, his mother, Chiyoko Yukimura, lost hope of advancing through him and took her own life. 1 5

His circumstances changed when the system enhanced his body and talent, gave him the Holy Grail External Technique, and enabled his first summoning of Mahoraga. The Gojo and Kamo factions both learned of his existence soon afterward and sought to conceal or recruit him rather than let the Zenin Family regain him. 2 5

Eiji lived apart from the Zenin Family in Osaka, developed a rapport with Satoru Gojo, and requested a new identity. Gojo arranged documents listing Eiji’s birthdate as December 8, 1989—one day after Gojo’s own. 5 7 Eiji subsequently trained the Ten Shadows Technique, researched Heroic Spirit Summoning, and sought out Toji Fushiguro as a close-combat sparring partner and taming ally. 10 37

Before enrolling at Jujutsu High in April 2005, Eiji successfully created a stable Spirit Origin Shadow. His first confirmed Imaginary Heroic Spirit was Artoria, whose appearance forced the Jujutsu Management Council to recognize Heroic Spirits as distinct from cursed spirits after she demonstrated her Noble Phantasm before them. 37 53

Eiji’s goals gradually expanded from escaping the Zenin Family to restructuring the entire Jujutsu World. He proposed a barrier-based “Small World” to collect leaked cursed energy and prevent cursed spirits from being born, while using Heroic Spirits and transformed sorcerers to handle exorcism work. 122 He later acted on this ambition by purging Zenin opposition, taking the position of Acting Head, building alliances with major families, and placing allies throughout jujutsu administration. 211 212 269

Personality

Eiji is calm, calculating, and unusually pragmatic for his age. He prefers planning around systems, logistics, personnel, and long-term incentives rather than relying only on individual strength. His experience working in organizations before reincarnation informs his belief that managing people is more difficult than defeating enemies. 119 269

He can be playful and provocative, particularly around Satoru Gojo and Takako Uro. He deliberately imitates Gojo’s taunting mannerisms, uses wagers during spars, and enjoys embarrassing his rivals when he has the advantage. 54 181 407

Despite his ambition and ruthless actions against hostile Zenin members, Eiji is protective of people he considers his own. He mentors younger sorcerers, gives Choso and his brothers shelter, worries about Toji’s well-being, and tries to keep Yuji Itadori from being exposed to the cruelest aspects of the jujutsu world. 74 202 236 443

His attachment to Artoria is especially intense. When Tomie copied Artoria’s face, Eiji became enraged and attacked with overwhelming force, exposing his possessive love for her. 331

Abilities & Skills

Ten Shadows Technique

Eiji is an orthodox user of the Zenin Family’s Ten Shadows Technique. He treats its shikigami as coordinated combat units rather than isolated summons.

  • Commands Divine Dogs, Nue, Rabbit Escape, Max Elephant, Tiger Funeral, Round Deer, Qiongqi, Mahoraga, and other shadow-based summons. 6 10 19 40
  • Explains that the Ten Shadows Taming Ritual cannot be aided by outside cursed energy and requires fair conditions at the ritual site. 7
  • Stores objects and supplies in his shadows, including Choso’s belongings. 203
  • Travels through shadows for rapid movement and infiltration. 180 378
  • Creates shadow clones capable of misleading opponents in direct combat. 181
  • Shapes shadows into constructs such as tables, chairs, storage spaces, and defensive barriers. 114 391

Mahoraga and Adaptation

Mahoraga is Eiji’s strongest shikigami and a central part of his combat style.

  • Initially manifests it through the Holy Grail system and uses Command Spells to dismiss or recall it. 2 3
  • Formally subdues it through a costly, coordinated ritual involving Artoria and multiple Shikigami. 40 43
  • Uses the Wheel of Dharma to adapt to hostile phenomena, including Kagewani’s curse. 71
  • Employs Mahoraga as an executioner and duelist during the Zenin Family purge, repeatedly defeating Ogi Zenin. 212
  • Its mature state, paired with Heroic Spirit Possession, eventually surpasses Satoru Gojo’s power. 484

Imaginary Foundation: Holy Grail

Eiji’s External Technique is based on the Holy Grail and its soul-materialization principles.

  • Summons Imaginary Heroic Spirits, including Artoria, Medea, Emiya, Medusa, Sasaki Kojiro, and Hundred-Faced Hassan. 53 231 389 443
  • Uses Command Spells to immediately recall Heroic Spirits to his side. 83
  • Researches the soul as the likely foundation of jujutsu, using the Holy Grail’s Third Magic-derived properties to investigate the Ten Shadows Technique. 110
  • Later builds the Hall of Heroes around the Holy Grail, preserving the souls of those connected to him before their deaths. 490

Heroic Spirit Possession

Eiji can place a Heroic Spirit’s power onto himself rather than only summoning it separately.

  • Takes on armor resembling Artoria’s, though altered into a more masculine form. 392
  • Gains combat experience from Artoria’s possession while fighting Abe no Seimei. 407
  • Uses possession alongside Ten Shadows Wheel-enhanced mobility in high-level battles. 323 331

Reverse Cursed Technique

Eiji can generate positive energy to repair injuries and counter cursed effects.

  • Learns the technique during the battle against the Demon Cursed Spirit. 24
  • Heals wounds inflicted by Kagewani’s curse after increasing his output. 71
  • Removes poisoned flesh before healing himself when struck by an assassin’s venom-coated dagger. 160
  • Uses Reverse Cursed Technique offensively to rapidly age Tomie. 331
  • Recognizes that even highly efficient healing cannot guarantee his safety and intends to improve his mental resistance. 331

Domain Expansion: Abyssal Dark Veil Court

Eiji’s Domain Expansion manifests as an abyssal shadow space filled with shikigami.

  • First clashes it against the Shadow Crocodile’s Abyssal Shadow Prison. 72
  • Uses Artoria’s support to break the opposing domain, after which his shikigami devour the Shadow Crocodile. 72
  • Can deploy an incomplete version to neutralize the sure-hit effect of Kenjaku’s Open Domain without fully exposing his own domain shell. 95

Ten Shadows Wheel

Eiji and Mahoraga develop the Maximum Technique: Ten Shadows Wheel after he opens the Shadow World.

  • Grants him wings and a weapon. 111
  • Enables high-speed aerial movement supported by wind and lightning. 323 331
  • Appears above his head during combat, functioning alongside his adaptive shadow techniques. 331 391

Swordsmanship and Hand-to-Hand Combat

Eiji is a capable close-range fighter who actively sought training from specialists.

  • Regularly spars with Toji Fushiguro, whose uncompromising instruction improves Eiji’s combat ability. 37
  • Uses feints, kicks, defensive adjustments, and positional awareness during close-quarters exchanges. 37
  • Reaches a respectable level of swordsmanship through sparring with Isayama Naraku; even Artoria would require time to defeat him. 154
  • Fights Abe no Seimei in a sword duel and studies his opponent’s cursed-energy manipulation mid-battle. 407

Strategic Leadership

Eiji combines combat strength with administration, intelligence gathering, and political maneuvering.

  • Plans to reform the Jujutsu World through control of the Zenin and Gojo Families, alliances with local families, and selective recruitment or elimination of opponents. 122 269
  • Uses experimental cursed tools, funding, and personal connections to build influence among local jujutsu families and departments. 263
  • Arranges personnel according to their abilities after the Tokyo Branch suffers major losses. 333
  • Deploys Hundred-Faced Hassan’s eighty assassin entities to gather intelligence on Curse Users. 443
  • Uses Sukuna’s Fingers as bait to lure Kidomaru into a trap. 389
  • Establishes a cultural event in Shibuya to protect civilians from Kenjaku’s hostage operation. 452
