Background
The Buddhist Sect is one of the two great orthodox Dao lineages of the Earth Immortal Realm and possesses immense influence comparable to the Heavenly Court. Its Great Compassion Bodhisattva is counted among the Four Great Bodhisattvas and had endured seven heavenly tribulations. 345 352
Its principal terrestrial power is concentrated in the Western Ox Continent, where it rules the Western Paradise and the Pure Land of Bliss. Its presence in Southern Jambudvipa is comparatively weak, leading it to seek opportunities to spread Buddhist teachings southward. 348
The Golden-Maned Hou was one such concealed advance: a Buddhist tamed beast and the mount of the Great Compassion Bodhisattva, allowed to descend as a demon while serving as a potential vanguard for the future spread of Buddhist Dharma southward. 344 348
Story Role / Major Arcs
Battle against Xu Yang
Four Great Holy Monks enter the battlefield after the fall of Shi Zhixuan and surround Xu Yang. Their intervention was arranged through Cihang Jingzhai and intended to prevent Xu Yang from escaping Chang'an. 46

Trivia
- Buddhism, the Immortal path, the Saint-Confucian path, the Demon path, and the Devil path are identified as the five principal cultivation paths of the Earth Immortal Realm. 344
- Buddhist cultivation requires Great Brahma Dharma, a form of Immortal Spirit Qi aligned with the Buddhist path. 344
- The Buddhist path includes three major streams—Tathagata Buddha, Bodhisattva, and Dharmapala—which are treated as equivalent fruits of enlightenment when cultivated to their highest realm. 659
- The Buddhist Sect's southward expansion is valuable not only for influence, but also because wider Buddhist authority within the Heavenly Dao can reduce the difficulty of tribulations for its high-level cultivators. 389
