How to Replenish Magical Power (12,000 Words)
Mr. LeMay's words plunged the entire Alchemy Room into silence.
The most silent of all were the the Scamander family.
Newt stared at Mr. LeMay in shock, thinking, "Didn't we already make an agreement to help my aunt and Potter?"
Mr. LeMay, Mr. LeMay, I never expected that you would be the first to betray us!
Pabbie wanted to sniff loudly in protest, but she was a little hesitant in front of Veratia.
"What... what kind of way is this to replenish magic power?"
Harry was shocked. He never imagined that absorbing the Philosopher's Stone would have such an effect.
What is this? A humanoid walking Philosopher's Stone? Or...?
"As you can see, Mr. Potter," Mr. LeMay trotted up to Veratia, "So, Veratia, why don't you give it a try?"
Veratia then composed herself, walked over to Harry, and took Harry hand.
She felt a warm current flowing into her body from where her hands met, gradually circulating through her body. Slowly, she felt as if the magic was being revived.
"It's so slow," she said softly.
"I said, it needs to be widespread contact," Mr. LeMay said, arms crossed. "This will not only affect the speed of magic recovery, but also the intensity of magic... You don't want to have the magic intensity of a first-year student, do you?"
"Oh."
Veratia nodded and looked at Harry.
"Harry, give me your other hand," she said.
Harry's face was flushed. He hesitated, but Veratia grabbed his other hand.
Veratia's hands are very soft and delicate; they feel really comfortable to hold.
"Huh? What's going on?"
Pabbie suddenly exclaimed.
Startled awake from his reverie, Harry looked up, bewildered, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Look at Veratia's hair!" Pabbie exclaimed, "It's changed color!"
Harry looked up at Veratia and noticed that Veratia hair was no longer silver, but had turned a light gold.
"What's going on, Mr. LeMay?" Harry asked, looking at Mr. LeMay in confusion.
"Oh, it's probably because of her health." Mr. LeMay squinted at Veratia's hair and said to Harry, "You don't need to worry—her hair color represents the level of magic in her body... When the color lightens, it means you need to continue replenishing her magic."
"There's such a saying?" Harry was stunned.
For some reason, he was reminded of secretly playing the Dudley game console in the past, and the battery level on the screen showed...
Could it be that magic is like electricity, Veratia's hair is a power indicator?
Silver-white indicates the battery is depleted, while gold indicates the battery is fully charged.
"It's a bit like Muggle battery," Newt remarked, speaking for most of the people present.
Theseus was worried for his good brother... So many years have passed, and my foolish brother still can't shake his bad habit of suddenly making sarcastic remarks.
Now that you mention it, it does seem somewhat similar.
Veratia didn't feel offended. She took Harry's hand, walked to the chair, sat down, pulled him into her arms, and hugged him.
Harry felt himself being embraced in a soft embrace. Caught off guard, he instinctively tried to run away, but Veratia's arm held him by the waist.
"Be good, don't move," Veratia said softly.
Harry stood frozen in place, still sitting on Veratia's lap, unsure whether to leave or stay there.
However, this did indeed make Veratia's magic recovery speed faster; her hair was returning to its original color almost at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Newt suddenly cleared his throat.
"Miss Grindelwald, I need to remind you that Mr. Potter is only twelve years old."
Newt tried his best to appear considerate of both of them.
For his aunt's happiness, he decided to take the plunge—
He thought he should at least bring Miss Grindelwald back to a starting line similar to his aunt's.
"As his professor for the next semester, I feel it's necessary to remind you that he's still a child..."
Saying those words, Newt felt as if he had used up all the courage he had in his life.
But, for my aunt...
Pabbie stuck out her mouth, grabbed Newt's clothes, and pulled them back with all her might.
She was really afraid that the terrifying transfer student would suddenly get angry and cause trouble for her nephew.
"You're absolutely right, Professor Scamander." Veratia smiled and ruffled Harry's messy hair. "But I think it's precisely because Harry is still a child that I shouldn't let him off the hook—"
"You like...?" Newt looked at Veratia in shock, seemingly astonished by her sexuality.
Veratia glanced at him and said, "I think you should establish healthy values, Professor Scamander —precisely because Harry is still a child, I don't need to avoid suspicion, do I... my precious little brother?"
Veratia whispered the last sentence in Harry's ear.
The warm, fragrant scent sprayed into Harry's ears, making them itch; his ears really did itch.
This one sentence left Newt speechless.
Now that you mention it, does that mean my thinking is unhealthy?
He turned to Tina and Theseus, mouthing the question silently, "Is it really that my thinking is unhealthy?"
Tina nodded hesitantly, while Theseus shook his head frantically.
Judging from his tone, it's clear he's saying... "You actually believe the cunning Grindelwald?"
However, at this moment, Harry suddenly thought of Cassandra.
The last time Cassandra was hugged by Veratia because of her injury, she happened to run into Cassandra was passing by.
Cassandra seemed very angry at the time, but she didn't say anything, just glanced at him and left.
Harry suddenly felt a pang of guilt. He sighed and said, "I remember when we were at the Malfoy family, Mr. Septimus told me that Cassandra also seemed to be trying to travel through time to find me a hundred years in the future... But I've been searching ever since I heard that, and I haven't found a single clue..."
Upon hearing this, Mr. LeMay suddenly stirred again.
He trotted along, slowly making his way to another room, and then, amidst everyone's expectant and curious gazes, slowly made his way back with a letter in his hand.
"Veratia, this is a letter someone asked me to pass on to you."
Mr. LeMay's eyes gleamed with the wit of a mischievous old man as he looked at Veratia with anticipation.
"Who wrote this?" Veratia asked curiously, reaching out to take the letter.
Harry leaned over to take a look, and the signature on it was a name that no one would have expected.
Malfoy.
Veratia raised her eyebrows slightly, put Harry on the ground, patted him, and gestured for him to sit down to the side.
Harry, who had been slapped, felt like he was being treated like a child. He glared at Veratia, craning his neck to see what was written on the letter.
After all, he was practically raised by Cassandra, so how could he remain indifferent to her news?
"This is a letter from Cass, Harry," Veratia said gently, ruffling Harry's hair. "Let me read it, okay?"
"Okay." Harry could only walk over and sit down.
Veratia looked up, glanced at Mr. LeMay, then at Harry sitting to the side, and finally lowered her head to open the envelope.
Cat stealing fish:
Congratulations on breaking free from the constraints of time and arriving at Potter's side.
Hopefully, you can shoulder the responsibility of being a friend and take good care of the careless and foolish Potter.
By the way, please tell that silly little Troll that being careless is not a good habit. A qualified wizard should always be on guard against sneak attacks from the shadows.
Also, please allow me to raise a glass to your friendship.
Your best friend
Malfoy
Veratia smiled as she read the letter, and at the end, she calmly raised her head.
She seemed to see before her eyes that blonde figure with a mocking smile on her lips, raising a wine glass in a toast to her.
"What did Cassandra write on it?" Harry asked with concern.
Everyone crowded around, eager to know what was written on it.
"Oh," Veratia said softly, handing the letter to Harry.
A fierce battle raged in her eyes.
As the person who knows Cassandra best, Veratia could certainly understand the subtext of this letter.
The entire letter argued that she had only gained the upper hand and that her victory was unfair, yet she still maintained that aristocratic, sarcastic tone.
Especially the way they address me... a philandering cat?
What do you take me for Grindelwald?
Veratia's eyes gradually turned cold. She had originally planned to wait until she rescued Cassandra before launching her attack, but she reaffirmed her resolve once again.
Oh...
Cass...
Didn't you say I was cheating on you?
So what if I have to wait a while?
With your arrogant and eccentric attitude, do you really think you can win Harry's heart?
Just wait, I will defeat you head-on once again!
Just then, the people around them finished reading Cassandra's Letter.
Everyone had their own thoughts, especially the the Scamander family had heard Pabbie's account of Cassandra's character.
How could a woman who says one thing and means another possibly defeat the incredibly skilled and gentle older sister type, Miss Grindelwald, in front of her?
The three Scamander exchanged glances, all feeling a pang of sympathy for Miss Malfoy.
Oh my god...
However, Newt suddenly had an idea.
Huh?
Could we join forces with the Malfoy family to defeat Grindelwald first?
This is the strategic principle of offshore balancing and balance of power on the mainland, Britain Empire!
Can you possibly be as smart as our ancestors?
Newt found it increasingly feasible and planned to make connections with Mr. Lucius was a member of the Hogwarts Board of school board member, when he returned to teach at Hogwarts.
No, that's not right.
I remember my aunt saying that Harry gave her the position of Hogwarts school board member, so does that mean... my aunt will also be a Hogwarts school board member in the future?
"So, do you have any news about Cassandra?" Harry asked Mr. LeMay.
Mr. LeMay shook his head and said to Harry with a smile, "You should know Miss Malfoy's character. She only left me a letter but didn't tell me exactly where she would be... However, I would recommend that you ask someone with Oracle abilities."
"Oracle talent?" Newt thought for a moment, then said to Mr. LeMay, "But I remember the Trelawney family has lost this Oracle bloodline power, and Lady current Sybill Trelawney is unlikely to make any accurate Prophecy while she is lucid. Relying on her..."
"Isn't there another Seer?" Mr. LeMay asked with a mysterious smile, turning his gaze to Veratia.
Veratia?
Could Veratia also have a talent for Prophecy? Harry scratched his head; he'd never heard of that before.
But the others present understood what was going on.
Miss Grindelwald certainly didn't have a talent for Prophecy, but everyone knew that her brother, Gellert Grindelwald, was a born Seer.
"If I remember correctly, your brother was a natural Prophecy, wasn't he?" Mr. LeMay said with a chuckle. "Ah, in those days, his Prophecy talent really caused Albus and us quite a bit of trouble..."
"How is this possible?" Newt slammed his fist on the table. "Good heavens, I don't believe that Grindelwald could use his Prophecy abilities to find Miss Malfoy's location. I absolutely refuse to believe it..."
He certainly didn't believe in Gellert's integrity; in Newt's view, Grindelwald was an absolute staunch Harry-Vivie Faction.
Need I say more? Of course the younger brother will side with his older sister!
"We should head to Nurmengard as soon as possible," Veratia said softly. "Cassandra's matter can't be delayed. Who knows what might happen to her if we wait any longer..."
"There's no need to rush, Veratia," Harry said hesitantly. "Are you sure your body is up to it? I mean... we all know your brother's personality. You should be fully prepared before going to Nurmengard."
"Ha!" A flash of anger suddenly appeared in Veratia's eyes. "Complete preparations? He still dares to lay a hand on me, his older sister? Does he think the Magical World will mourn for him?!"
Upon hearing this, Newt and Theseus both froze.
These words... these words sound so damn familiar.
Back in Père Lachaise Cemetery, Newt was questioned with this very question by a jealous Mr. Grindelwald.
The original quote was, "Mr. Scamander, do you think Dumbledore would mourn for you?"
Good heavens, this memory is so hard to recall, it makes me Finite Incantatem spinning.
"I think you shouldn't be so confident, Miss Grindelwald," Newt suggested tentatively. "Or... should we go with you? Just in case anything unexpected happens..."
"Thank you for your kindness, Professor Scamander," Veratia said softly, "However, this is a family matter for Grindelwald, and I don't believe my brother would dare to lay a hand on me..."
Newt opened his mouth, but didn't say anything more.
Veratia is right. This is their family matter, and it's really not appropriate for him, a non -Scamander, to get involved.
Besides, family scandals shouldn't be aired in public. What if that old man Grindelwald did something... oh wait, actually did... uh...
Newt thought of the closer relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore than brothers, and subconsciously shuddered.
Good heavens, he now not only wanted to say sorry for Grindelwald, but also mourn for Dumbledore.
However, Newt made no attempt to remind Professor Dumbledore.
On the one hand, it is a belief in the strength of the strongest wizards of this century.
On the other hand, Dumbledore in the right.
"Is this really okay?" Harry asked Veratia in a low voice. "Should we add some more magic...?"
"Oh, I need to remind you..." Mr. LeMay suddenly said, "Replenishing magic also has its drawbacks. After all, your contact isn't close enough, so while the magic's effect lasts a while, its intensity isn't high enough..."
Veratia took out her wand and flicked a Charms at the ceiling.
"Lumos!"
Harry looked at the flickering light on the staff and scratched his head.
"Expelliarmus (Disarming Charm)!"
The Charms struck the lamp, and the several candles hanging from it fell to the ground with a crackling sound.
"I don't recommend you experiment anymore, Veratia," Mr. LeMay sighed. "My Alchemy Room can't withstand any more of your abuse..."
"It's pretty much what I expected," Veratia said in a light tone. "Although it might be less effective in actual combat, with my dueling experience, dealing with an ordinary Dark Wizard shouldn't be a problem."
"An ordinary Dark Wizard?" Newt quickly said, "Miss Grindelwald, your brother is no ordinary Dark Wizard; he's Dark Wizard has caused a huge stir throughout Europe."
"I understand." Veratia looked at Harry. "Harry, would you like to come with me?"
"Of course," Harry replied. "Even if you can't beat Gellert, I'm still here for you, aren't I?"
His impression of Gellert remained that of the eight-year-old boy from a hundred years ago.
That little cockatoo, the one who had a lot of complaints about him.
However, Harry did not underestimate his opponent. The name that appeared on the Chocolate Frog Card was certainly not mediocre, especially since he was Dumbledore's nemesis in his youth. How could his Charms skills be bad?
"I think you should replenish your magic, Veratia," Pabbie said, looking up. "Even if Gellert Grindelwald still acknowledges you as his sister, his Dark Wizard might not recognize you..."
Newt lowered his head and sighed silently.
Good heavens, my aunt, you're so honest...
Isn't this just handing Mr. Potter over to Miss Grindelwald?
"You're right." Veratia chuckled softly, reached out and pulled Harry over, ignoring his protests, and sat him down in a chair.
"Are you shy?" Veratia whispered in Harry's ear, her breath sweet as orchids.
Harry froze slightly, provoked by those words, and stopped struggling.
"How could that be? I'm just replenishing your magic power."
Harry wanted to relax, but found he couldn't at all, remaining tense and sitting on Veratia's lap.
This was arguably Harry's closest encounter with a girl.
Even a hundred years ago, Harry had never... well, not exactly. What he didn't know was that after being knocked unconscious by the Charms, he had enjoyed Cassandra's lap pillow—although Cassandra quickly threw him aside when he showed signs of waking up, causing him to be knocked unconscious again.
"Thinking about Cass?" Veratia suddenly asked.
"No, no," Harry said truthfully.
A moment of silence fell between the two.
"Don't worry, Harry," Veratia said softly. "She's not only your friend, but also my dearest friend. I don't want her to just lie there asleep somewhere like this... Besides, you promised Mr. Malfoy that you would find his daughter safely."
"Yes," Harry nodded, although Cassandra could be really... well, he still missed her.
Sometimes, when you think about it, at Hogwarts a hundred years ago, besides the Weasley family, only Cassandra treated him unconditionally well.
Although he didn't know why, that was the truth.
Even though she was sharp-tongued, and Harry initially found her annoying... but afterwards Harry realized she was actually quite nice.
"Actually," Harry said softly, "I miss her too, and I even want to see her right now..."
Veratia suddenly became alert.
What happened?
I remember you thought Malfoy was the most annoying, right? Why are you suddenly missing her now?
Could it be that you've changed your personality?
But no matter what, the proud Veratia has no intention of resorting to any underhanded tricks.
The fact that Cassandra could endure a hundred years of solitude speaks volumes about her feelings for Harry — Veratia, having also experienced a hundred years of solitude, certainly knows what that feels like.
Proud as she was, she simply couldn't bring herself to speak ill of Cassandra behind her back or cause trouble between her and Harry.
As for who will win, she thought, "Let's wait until we meet to see who's better."
"We'll meet again," Veratia comforted her softly. "Don't worry, once we find out Cassandra's whereabouts from Gale, I'll go with you to find her."
Newt was standing nearby, exchanged a glance with Tina upon hearing this.
It seems that Miss Grindelwald... is not as bad as her brother?
Judging from her personality, Newt felt that Miss Grindelwald should be a woman who was sincere to her friends and loyal to her lover... How could such a person be Grindelwald's sister? He was somewhat puzzled.
Or perhaps, when did the Grindelwald family's "feng shui" break down, as Eastern wizards often say, and produce such a wicked creature Gellert?
Mrs. LeMay appeared out of nowhere and snuggled up to Mr. LeMay, looking at Harry and Veratia with a warm, aunt-like smile.
"Young people," Perenelle LeMay remarked, "Nicolas, weren't we like this when we were young?"
"Yes," Mr. LeMay sighed, "We were so innocent back then, we would even blush when we held hands and walked along the river."
"Yes, those were truly wonderful days," Mrs. LeMay reminisced. "Just six hundred years ago, the Seine River was crystal clear, the air wasn't as polluted as it is now, and you could even drink the river water directly without getting sick..."
"Why does this sound like a song lyric?" Tina whispered to Newt.
Newt replied in a low voice, "It's a Germany folk song, ' We Want Old Emperor William Back '."
"Oh," Tina nodded in realization.
Harry took a chocolate bar out of his wallet, ready to take a bite.
Just as he was about to put it in his mouth, he suddenly saw Pabbie nudging over from the side.
"What are you eating? Break me some food!" she said.
While speaking, he would bite into the chocolate bar in Harry's hand.
But Harry grabbed the corner of the head.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch!" she cried. "Be gentle with your prying, it hurts so much..."
"Still pretending?" Harry snorted. "Mr. LeMay told me you can't eat human food at all... By the way, Mr. LeMay, what's wrong with Pabbie? Why is he like this all the time?"
"Well," Mr. LeMay glanced at the pitiful Pabbie and said leisurely, "There are indeed some minor problems, but..."
"But the problem is solved!" Pabbie raised his head energetically, bouncing around a couple of times.
Veratia frowned slightly and looked at Pabbie was still bouncing around.
Pabbie noticed Veratia's knowing look in her eyes, and she awkwardly put down her front hooves and chuckled twice.
"Hehe, I forgot we're in Mr. LeMay's Alchemy Room," she said sheepishly. "What Sickle..."
"Didn't you say she couldn't taste anything?" Harry pressed on. "Last time I mistakenly took dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, and she took it seriously, saying that dark chocolate was sweet..."
"So I don't recommend that you continue feeding her. After all, as I said, her body is different from that of a normal Unicorn," Mr. LeMay sighed.
"What should we do then?" Harry pressed. "Pabbie can't stay like this forever, can she?"
He turned his head again, looked up at Veratia, and asked, "Veratia, didn't we agree to have Pabbie's body checked after you came back? Do you have any good ideas on how to help her return to human form?"
"I don't have any good ideas for the time being, but we can carefully record Pabbie ' symptoms and then consult the three professors in the Map Chamber when we return to Hogwarts," Veratia suggested softly.
"Great idea!" Harry slapped his hand. "Professor Rackham is the most knowledgeable; he'll definitely have a solution."
From his angle, however, he couldn't see that Veratia was looking at Pabbie with a complicated expression.
"Alright, we've been chatting for so long, it's time for dinner." Mr. LeMay suddenly changed the subject, looking at Veratia who was holding Harry, and said, "After being stuck in the Slytherin's Study for so long, I'm sure you must be missing your hometown food... Perenelle just had Luchi make some of your hometown dishes, I hope that after all these years, she hasn't forgotten the cuisine of the Austria Empire."
"It's the Austro-Hungarian Empire," Veratia pointed out, seemingly possessing an unimaginable attachment to this country.
"You should understand an old man, Veratia," Mr. LeMay sighed wistfully. "For the first half of my life, that country was always called the ' Holy Roman Empire '..."
"If that's what you want to call it, I have no objection," Veratia said, raising an eyebrow. "Greater Germany should be united, not scattered into countless fragments."
Newt turned to Theseus and Tina and whispered, "But in reality, the Holy Roman Empire was also fragmented..."
What you said makes so much sense, I'm speechless.
Dinner was lavish, perhaps because it was to entertain guests, or perhaps because Luchi was serving her mistress again; in any case, this dinner was not much less extravagant than the one served at the Vienna court in the past.
"I must say, I really like this Tafelspitz."
After Harry finished the beef and sausage in his bowl, he casually picked up a piece of bread and wiped the soup in the bowl, coating it completely. Paired with a bite of fried pork chop, it was simply the ultimate enjoyment.
In fact, Austria has a long-standing beef culture, and beef can be found in many recipes that have been passed down for centuries. One of the most famous dishes in these recipes is the Tafelspitz, which Harry is currently enjoying, and was one of Emperor Franz Joseph I's favorite dishes.
This dish requires simmering the beef in broth for several hours until it is so tender that it melts on the tongue.
When served, it comes with potato borscht, root vegetables, horseradish, Apple, and chive sauce, making it very appetizing.
"If Miss Malfoy saw you like this, she would say you have no manners, Harry."
Pabbie whispered to herself, her drool practically dripping onto the ground.
"In her words, only a savage would be so uncouth as to not even spare the soup."
"Yeah?"
Veratia didn't realize that the soup from her plate had somehow ended up on her bread. She gracefully cut the bread into small pieces with a knife and put them in her mouth.
"Hmm... not bad," she commented. "Personally, I don't think Cass knows what real deliciousness is."
Pabbie glanced at Veratia, who was imitating him, and then at Harry, who was grinning foolishly at Veratia. Suddenly, he understood where Cassandra had lost.
Although she had been raising this little cabbage for so long, Pabbie to admit that she was starting to feel a little tempted herself, let alone Harry.
Such a kind and understanding older sister is really touching, isn't she?
For dessert, we had the classic Vienna court dessert – the Kaiserschmarrn.
Kaiserschmarrn are one of the most famous and popular traditional Austria desserts. They are light caramel pancakes made from flour, eggs, sugar, salt, and milk, baked with butter. The texture is somewhere between a pancake and a cake. They are sweet and delicious, and when served with fruit, raisins, almonds, jam, milk, or hot cocoa, they are simply a rare delicacy.
This delicacy is named after Emperor Franz Joseph I, as he was very fond of it. The name is a combination of the words Kaiser (German: emperor) and arrn (medley).
Kaiserschmarrn were a very popular food during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but there are different accounts of their origin.
One account tells of how, during a trip to the Alps, Franz Joseph I and Empress Princess Sisi) had lunch at a farmer's house. The farmer, in his nervousness, threw all the best ingredients into a pan to make pancakes. His hands trembled so badly that he accidentally crushed the pancakes. To cover the mess, he poured plum jam on top. Fortunately, Franz Joseph I found the dish delicious and named it Kaiarrn.
"So, is this Kaiserschmarrn really named after that legend?" Tina asked Veratia while eating.
As a country with a somewhat barren culinary landscape, the America is naturally curious about the legends surrounding Old World cuisine.
Moreover, this thing can be traced back to the Austria court... and the Miss Grindelwald in front of me may be one of the people involved.
"That should be true, at least that's what my aunt told me." Veratia seemed to be reminiscing, but then she smiled and said, "However, there are also many delicacies that are far-fetched and forcibly labeled as imperial, but my uncle is quite magnanimous and did not pursue these people. He would just taste them himself, and if they suited his taste, he would have the imperial chefs learn how to make them. If they didn't suit his taste, he would have the imperial label removed."
"He's a true gourmet and he's afraid of ruining his reputation," Veratia added humorously at the end.
These little stories made the atmosphere after the meal more lively.
"And what about Britain?" Newt asked Theseus again. "Does Britain have any delicacies that have been approved by the king or queen?"
"Uh..." Theseus racked his brains and finally came up with an answer, "French cuisine?"
Upon hearing this, LeMay, who was drinking black tea, almost choked.
He let out a deafening screech, but ended up clutching his chest for a long time before recovering.
"What's wrong, Mr. LeMay?" Newt asked with concern.
"Rib..." Mr. LeMay gasped, "His ribs are broken!"
After a flurry of frantic recovery efforts, Mr. LeMay's ribs were finally put back in place.
"You probably don't know this, Mr. Scamander," Veratia said casually, "Back then in Britain, even the menus were in French..."
"How do you know about this?" Newt asked, dumbfounded. "Aren't you from the Austro-Hungarian Empire? How do you know about things in Britain?"
"Because this matter became a laughing stock throughout Europe..." Veratia picked up the hot cocoa cup on the table. "It is said that during the reign of George V of Britain, he was extremely fond of everything France —including French cuisine, of course. He even decided to officially change the royal menu to be written in French. As a result, the courtiers of the empire followed suit, and this became a common practice in Britain thereafter."
Veratia wasn't lying; since 1880, the royal family has almost always used French for menus. In other words, since 1880, the British Royal Family has used French for the menus of every state banquet.
In fact, the current British Royal Family is descended from the France Norman royal house. French was once the language of the Britain upper class, and speaking fluent Britain was a sign of having received a good aristocratic education.
Of course, this is not unique to Britain; in fact, many Europe countries are like this, such as Tsarist Russia —if you have read "War and Peace," you will find that the nobles in the book speak long passages of French.
In Queen Victoria's 1899 menu, only the last section, the buffet, was in English.
(Menu from the Queen's coronation in 1953)
"I feel a little breathless," Theseus said, clutching his collar. "My God, why do I feel so ashamed even though this is supposed to be Muggle world?"
"In the culinary world, you'll get used to it," Mr. LeMay said with a hint of sarcasm. "Britain food? Even dogs wouldn't eat it..."
"At least our breakfasts in Britain are pretty good!" Harry retorted.
Mr. LeMay snorted; it was an inherent incompatibility between the France and the Britain.
"But your Britain food is just not good. I need to remind you that when your King Henry I of Britain went on a tour of Normandy, he ignored the doctor's advice and ate a lot of stewed lamprey, and eventually died of indigestion on the toilet!"
Harry took a deep breath.
He picked up a napkin from the side, dipped his Prongs in water, and stuck the napkin onto the Prongs, waving it around like a white flag.
"Okay, I surrender."
Mr. LeMay suddenly stopped talking and glared at Harry fiercely.
"What does this mean?" Veratia asked curiously, looking at the white flag Harry had made.
It seems that Newt and Theseus were unaware of this either; only Tina sat there, laughing uproariously.
Harry then told these people, who were unfamiliar with the Muggle world, about the story of World War II, especially how art students could quickly pass through France.
Newt and Theseus then realized that this was what it referred to—they hadn't realized it before.
"It didn't even last as long as a Russian building," Harry commented in his final remarks.
Mr. LeMay stood up and jogged away from the restaurant.
Seeing Mr. LeMay storm off in anger, Harry chuckled with a wicked grin. He took a couple of bites of the Kaiserschmarrn and suddenly realized the taste was familiar.
"Actually, I think it tastes a bit like Rock Cakes," Harry began his witty comment. "By the way, Hagrid is the gamekeeper, Veratia. I'm planning to recommend him to be Professor Scamander's teaching assistant—he's been very kind to me, a really fun friend. I'll introduce him to you when we get back to Hogwarts."
"Okay." Veratia held the cup and nodded gently. "But... Rock Cakes? That name sounds a bit scary."
"Well, just like its name suggests, it's really hard..." Harry shuddered a little when he first bit into the Rock Cakes. "But it's delicious once you soak it in water or hot milk to soften it. It tastes just like this Kaiserschmarrn, which is really good."
"I know this Hagrid you're talking about quite well," Newt smiled happily. "I would be very happy to have him as my assistant, and it would save me a lot of trouble."
"By the way, Veratia," Harry looked at Veratia and asked, "What are your plans for the days to come?"
"Me?" Veratia looked up, thought for a moment, and said with a smile, "Of course I'm going back to Hogwarts with you. Have you forgotten? I'm just a student who just finished fifth year. I've only passed the exams, not the seventh.
"Given your level of magic, you shouldn't need to attend Hogwarts, Miss Grindelwald, should you?"
Theseus suddenly said that he also felt he should do something for his aunt.
"I suggest you come to the Ministry of Magic; perhaps becoming an Auror would be more suitable for you."
"You're sending the Dark Wizard's sister to capture the Dark Wizard?" Veratia asked with a smile. "Aren't you afraid she'll collude with the Dark Wizard?"
Theseus choked for a moment.
"I still stand by my point of view." Theseus was reluctant to give up. "You are truly a born Auror, this is the kind of work you should be doing."
"But I don't have any magic right now, I'll have to borrow it from Harry, won't I?"
Veratia reached out and ruffled Harry's messy hair. The latter squinted his eyes, seemingly enjoying the caress from his older sister.
She had Harry's personality figured out. This child had lost his mother at a young age and was a typical person who craved maternal love. For such a child, the best approach was to give him the maximum amount of tolerance and pampering so that he would become dependent on him and eventually inseparable from him.
As for Cassandra's method? Ha, may she remain single forever.
Let alone Harry, any normal boy would probably find her way of expressing love unbearable.
"So, what about Professor Dumbledore?" Harry asked suspiciously. "Isn't there some kind of criterion required to get into Hogwarts?"
"It's the Book of Admissions and the Quill of Acceptance," Newt suddenly said. "Miss Grindelwald's name needs to be written in the Book of Admissions by the Quill of Acceptance of Acceptance before she can have the opportunity to study at Hogwarts."
"But wasn't it already written a hundred years ago?" Harry asked, puzzled. "Logically speaking, she shouldn't be considered a graduate..."
"She's not even Britain, Harry." Newt glanced furtively at Veratia, and seeing that she wasn't looking at him, quickly lowered his head and said rapidly, "If I remember correctly, this book should only list the names of people currently in the British Isles."
"Is it written automatically?" Harry asked curiously.
"I don't know the specifics," Newt shook his head and said, "But that's what I've heard—I've never heard of any transfer student's name appearing on it... If I remember correctly, Miss Grindelwald is already a hundred years old..."
Before he could finish speaking, he saw Veratia's gaze suddenly turn dangerous.
"Sixteen years old," he said sincerely. "I've never heard of accepting someone over twelve."
"I think I should talk to Professor Dumbledore about this," Harry said to Veratia. "After all, you're his senior, and you did attend Hogwarts. I don't think he'd refuse your request to enroll."
"Who knows?" Veratia said, her eyes sparkling. "Maybe he'll be prejudiced against me because I'm Gale's sister, and he might not allow me to re-enroll."
"He wouldn't. Even with that orphan Tom, Dumbledore never refused him admission." Harry said, then suddenly laughed. "But he also didn't accept Tom's application for the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor —oh, by the way, Tom is Voldemort, his name is Tom Marvolo Riddle, but he's actually a Half-blood wizard."
Upon hearing that Voldemort was actually a Half-blood, everyone's expressions turned somewhat strange.
no...
We thought you were Pure-blood, but it turns out you're Half-blood?
"That's a wise choice," Theseus said, shaking his head. "The British wizarding world suffered heavy losses in the last Wizarding War, all thanks to this Tom Riddle. I don't think we should call him by his pseudonym; Mr. Riddle clearly more suitable for him."
Harry couldn't help himself and blurted out all of Voldemort's family affairs.
After all, Voldemort wasn't his friend, and Harry had no obligation to keep secrets.
Instead of keeping this secret to myself, I'd rather tell everyone and have a laugh.
"That Merope is really something..." Veratia frowned, but her good upbringing prevented her from saying anything harsh, "Good heavens, how can there be such a shameless witch? It's utterly ridiculous..."
"I never imagined Voldemort's birth would be a tragedy," Newt said, shaking his head. "No wonder he was so cruel; it turns out he was a product of Love Potion. Really..."
Before Newt could finish speaking, Harry interrupted, "Last year, Voldemort attacked Pabbie in the Forbidden Forest. If I hadn't intervened in time, she might have been killed by Voldemort..."
"He deserves to die!" Newt cursed through gritted teeth.
For someone with freckles who is usually very good-natured to swear, it seems he was really angry.
"I really don't know what kind of twisted being would attack a noble Unicorn. Has his soul... become so corrupted?" Tina asked, still shaken.
"In any case, he is beyond redemption," Theseus concluded with Voldemort.
However, what Harry and his friends didn't know was that the Quill of Acceptance had already written Veratia's name in the Book of Admissions yesterday afternoon.
The first person to know about this was Professor McGonagall.
She was packing her things in the tower when she saw the Quill of Acceptance moving rapidly, signing her name on the Book of Admissions.
Curious, Professor McGonagall stepped forward and saw the name written on it.
"Verathea Grindelwald".
Professor McGonagall reached out and grabbed his collar; she knew, of course, what that surname represented.
She rushed to the Headmaster's Office at Hogwarts, but found no sign of Dumbledore.
It wasn't until the next day that a haggard Professor McGonagall finally saw Dumbledore return.
"What's wrong, Minerva?" Dumbledore asked with concern. "Didn't you sleep well?"
"Of course, Albus." Professor McGonagall took a deep breath. "The Quill of Acceptance has moved, and a name has been written in the Book of Admissions."
"A name has been written down?" Dumbledore was intrigued; this was the first time he had ever seen such a thing.
It's already the middle of the semester, and it's the Christmas break, so why is this happening?
Logically, shouldn't the new name be written at the end of the school year?
"You would never want to know who that name is..." Professor McGonagall's face darkened. "Oh my God, Albus, I really don't want to talk about it..."
"It can't be Tom Riddle, can it?" Professor Dumbledore asked, seemingly jokingly.
"Oh, not quite." Professor McGonagall's expression flickered slightly, but she continued, "It's not far off, though. The name I saw in the Book of Admissions... her last name is Grindelwald..."
Professor Dumbledore suddenly became serious. He sat up straight and asked again, "What did you say? Minerva? What's that person's last name?"
"Her last name is Grindelwald." Professor McGonagall sighed. "It's that... that Grindelwald from Nurmengard Castle. Her first name is... Verathea Grindelwald."
Verathea?
Dumbledore felt the name was familiar, but for a moment he couldn't remember where he had heard it before.
Could he be Gale's descendant?
Oh my god, really? Does Gale have an illegitimate child or daughter?
Dumbledore subconsciously felt it was impossible, because of the name...
He felt an urge to make a sharp, explosive sound.
