The Terrifying Transfer Student
Harry had nothing to hide, so he recounted in detail what had happened between him and Miss Farley.
Upon hearing that Miss Farley was Harry's defeated opponent, Veratia knowingly reached out and pinched Pabbie's chin.
"So that's how it is." She squeezed Pabbie a little harder, making her bleat, and muttered under her breath, "Evil Grindelwald."
Harry put down Miss Farley's letter and said to Veratia, "But speaking of which, School Opening starts in a week—I'm looking forward to seeing how the teachers and students will react when you're sorted into your Sorting, since your brother is quite famous in the Magical World."
The Scamander family turned around and looked at Harry as if he were an alien.
You said her brother is "somewhat" famous?
You call the Dark Wizard almost burned down Paris and is famous—though not for a good reason—something with a bit of fame?
"After all these years, they've probably forgotten by now," Veratia said nonchalantly. "Besides, there's someone named Voldemort now—at least Gellert had an excuse to Fawley of all wizards, but what about Voldemort?"
"Sister, I'm not making excuses," Gellert tried to defend herself.
But it was clear that resistance was futile.
Considering that he had made some new friends, Harry decided to buy some more Christmas present to give to everyone.
Newt's Christmas present was a set of snake skins that Alfonso had just shed; Tina's was an old-fashioned court ornament; and Theseus's gift was a set of wand care products.
Of course, Harry didn't forget Gellert either, and bought him a nest of Niffler.
"Gale will definitely like it."
Veratia said this when buying Niffler.
Harry thought so too, and was certain that Veratia was definitely Gale's older sister, no doubt about it.
The Christmas Eve dinner was prepared entirely by the House Elf. Although these adorable little creatures may not be the cutest, they are absolutely super professional helpers when it comes to housework.
Within a few tens of minutes, the Elf had prepared a large dinner for the whole family.
"I actually quite like Britain food, so why wasn't it served?" Gellert began his critique. "Britain food has many merits, such as, uh... um..."
"For example, your favorite Britain dish is a red-haired cream punk," Harry retorted.
Gellert put down his knife and fork and remained silent.
Newt said nothing and cut the pie in front of him into the shape of a thumb.
"I feel like the whole world is against me," Gellert sighed. "Potter, isn't there even a shred of sincerity between us?"
"Probably not," Harry said seriously. "You're Dark Wizard, Dark Wizard are the most cunning. Don't believe a word they say."
"Which bastard taught you this?!" Gellert asked, his eyes wide.
Harry didn't say anything, but just glanced at Veratia.
The meaning is very clear: it was your sister who taught you that.
Gellert took a deep breath, lowered his head, and continued eating.
What else can he do? Can he physically punish his sister?
Holidays are always too short. Fortunately, there was no homework during the second grade Christmas holiday, so the days leading up to the start of School Opening weren't too hard to bear, and I didn't have to sit in the Great Hall frantically catching up on my homework.
But things got really tough for students in their third year and above. It's said that Snape assigned everyone a long paper as homework, Weasley twins pestered their Academic Bully classmates in the Gryffindor Common Room, wanting to "appropriately borrow" some of their papers.
"We should have written it sooner," they said in unison.
The students all expressed their understanding, after all, finishing homework at school the day before School Opening starts after the holiday is one of the most important parts of life.
If it's missing, the entire school life will become imperfect.
Harry returned to Hogwarts on January 9th, but Veratia is not yet a student at Hogwarts, so she is temporarily staying at Mr. LeMay's house and will return to school the next day when School Opening begin.
When Harry returned to his dorm, he found Ron completely out of it.
"What's wrong with him?" Harry asked Neville and Seamus, who were standing nearby.
"Don't even mention it," Neville seemed to be forcing himself to stay calm. "Ron won two games in the Wizard Chess tournament."
"You won two games?" Harry patted Ron. "That's not bad. Why are you so upset?"
"Because he lost sixteen games..." Seamus said, then exchanged a glance with Neville, and the two of them burst into laughter.
Ron twitched, then hugged his pillow without saying a word.
"I have a feeling he'll never play Wizard Chess again," Seamus commented.
By dinner time that evening, news of Ron's impressive 2-16 score in the Wizard Chess tournament had spread throughout the entire school.
"Weasley! Weasley!" Draco called to Ron from the Slytherin's Long Table. "I heard you lost sixteen games in a row? Really sixteen games in a row?"
"Oh, shut up, Malfoy!" Hermione grabbed Ron, telling him to ignore the little rascal. "Listen to me, Ron, don't pay attention to him... In chess, there are wins and losses, that's normal. In my heart, you've always been the best chess player."
"Really?" Ron turned around and asked.
"Do you really want me to repeat myself?" Hermione asked, her face tense.
Ron scratched his head and chuckled.
"Where did you and Veratia go for Christmas?" Hermione asked. "Did you receive the Christmas present I gave you both?"
"Received." Harry fiddled with the fries in front of him, trying to mix the ketchup. "Your mail was sent to the Dursley family and then forwarded to France —I'm sorry I can't tell you the exact location of the LeMay family, since that's a place protected by the Fidelius Charm."
"I understand," Hermione said with a smile. "Did Veratia like my gift?"
"I quite like it, you know, she's more into Muggle stuff." Harry forked a fry and stuffed a big mouthful into it, a hearty way of eating that was quite satisfying.
January 10th is a Sunday, and today is also the last day of the Christmas holiday.
The next day was the official School Opening of Hogwarts school.
In the evening, as is customary, the students of Hogwarts would have dinner together in the Great Hall.
However, this year's School Opening banquet seemed to be somewhat different from previous ones.
This time, the Great Hall was no longer decorated like the Gryffindor hall of the previous House Cup champions, but instead was decorated to clearly distinguish the four houses.
The ceiling still displayed the magnificent night sky, with beautiful nebulae of various colors hanging on it, which was quite a sight.
The students sat in their chairs, eagerly discussing the new teachers to be replaced in the Faculty Table, whispering amongst themselves.
One of them is someone everyone recognizes; his name is Newt Scamander, the author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
Sitting next to Newt was an elegant and dignified old woman, but she didn't seem to like Mr. Scamander very much.
Veratia sat down next to Harry, and next to her was Hermione, a little fangirl with stars in her eyes.
"Sister Veratia, which house will you be assigned to?" Hermione asked in a low voice.
"Why don't you take a guess?" Veratia asked with a smile.
"I bet you're Gryffindor," Ron said confidently. "After all, you and Harry are such good friends..."
Before he could finish speaking, Hermione secretly pinched him.
That silly child, saying that is like forcing someone to go to Gryffindor.
"I think it might be Slytherin?" Veratia chuckled. "After all, I believe I still fit some of the Slytherin House traits, don't you think, Harry?"
"Probably," Harry scratched his neck. "Actually, I've always thought you should be Ravenclaw, after all, you love reading so much."
"I don't read to pursue knowledge, Harry. I'm not going to be a Ravenclaw," Veratia said with a laugh.
"But what else can you do besides study for knowledge?" Hermione asked, puzzled.
Veratia whispered in Hermione's ear, "And power."
Before the banquet began, Professor McGonagall picked up her Prongs and tapped it against her glass.
The students, who were still whispering and making a buzzing noise, quickly shut up and prepared to listen to the Headmaster's speech.
"It's sad that the Christmas holidays are always so short; it seems like we haven't fully enjoyed them before they've vanished in the cold wind."
Professor Dumbledore said with a smile, "I think you have all seen that two teachers have been replaced in our faculty seats."
"The first one is Professor Rosier Vera Rozier, who replaced Gilderoy Lockhart last year as the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor."
Upon hearing this, the Great Hall erupted in a gasp of surprise.
It should be said that Professor Lockhart's lectures last year won over countless fans at Hogwarts, with the vast majority of students falling in love with this talented bestselling author.
"Why replace Professor Lockhart!" Some students were already loudly expressing their dissatisfaction, and this sentiment was echoed by the majority of them.
"Alright, quiet," Professor Dumbledore said. "I need to clarify that the person who taught us Defense Against the Dark Arts last year was none other than this Ms. Rosier."
A drawn-out "Huh?" echoed in the Great Hall.
"I regret to inform you that Gilderoy Lockhart is a fame-seeking man who repeatedly extracts stories of adventure from his victims and then uses them to steal others' stories without Obliviate."
"It was this venerable old Lady..." Dumbledore said, glancing at the nonchalant Vera, "She used Polyjuice Potion to transform herself into Lockhart's likeness, thus gaining access to the front lines, searching for evidence of Lockhart's crimes, and ultimately bringing the criminals to justice... Here, I would like to say, let us applaud the venerable Ms. Rosier!"
The students below clapped and cheered happily.
So last year's "Professor Lockhart" was actually someone else impersonating him using Polyjuice Potion, and this professor will continue to teach us Defense Against the Dark Arts this semester?
What's there to be unwilling about? Just agree.
After everyone finished applauding, Professor Dumbledore continued, "In recent years, the teacher who taught you the Care of Magical Creatures has decided to retire so that he can have more time to care for his remaining limbs."
"Fortunately, I am pleased to announce that his successor is none other than our Hufflepuff's finest student— Newt Scamander!"
After saying that, Dumbledore turned around and pointed at Newt.
Newt stood up, bowed his head, and nodded repeatedly to everyone, as if he couldn't wait to sit down.
A burst of enthusiastic cheers erupted from the student seats, especially from the Hufflepuff students, some of whom even stood on the tables to celebrate with Professor Scamander.
No other reason than that Professor Scamander is from Hufflepuff, and is the pride of Hufflepuff.
After the applause subsided, Dumbledore raised his hand to signal everyone to be quiet.
"In addition, two teaching assistants will be joining our classes. One of them is someone everyone knows—none other than our hunting grounds guard, Rubeus Hagrid!"
Hagrid clapped blankly until Professor McGonagall nudged his arm.
He then came to his senses, but his body was so large that he almost knocked over the table when he stood up.
Professor McGonagall sighed; she was starting to regret letting the big guy stand up.
Harry stood up and cheered loudly for Hagrid, leading the Gryffindor students to applaud as well.
To save face for Harry, Miss Farley and some Slytherin started clapping for Hagrid.
After the applause subsided, Dumbledore continued, "Besides the change of teachers, I have another announcement to make... In our new term, we will be welcoming a transfer student to the sixth year—of course, we will still be sorting her into Sorting. I believe that after all this time at Hogwarts, this is the first time you've seen a 'new student' of this age being sorted into Sorting, isn't it?"
Everyone was amused by this lame joke.
"Alright, let's continue with Professor McGonagall sorting everyone into Sorting —oh no, I mean sorting our freshmen into Sorting." Dumbledore winked playfully and sat down.
Everyone looked expectantly at Professor McGonagall, eager to see who this new transfer student was.
Some people study at Hogwarts for seven years and may never see a single transfer student.
Professor McGonagall stood up, lifted the pointed end of her hat, and walked to the chair placed in front of her.
She placed her hat on the chair and called out, "Verathea Grindelwald!"
Vera Rosier, High Table, sat up straight, intending to see just how remarkable a witch her husband's sister truly was.
The silence in the Great Hall continued for a while, then suddenly a buzzing sound broke out.
"Grindelwald? Is this the Grindelwald I'm thinking of?"
"My God, it's Grindelwald... Isn't that man in Nurmengard? Could he have descendants?"
"Merlin, a descendant of the Grindelwald family has come to study at Hogwarts? Good heavens, how could Dumbledore allow that..."
