Background / History

Ming Jing was originally a gamer from another world. After an old man offered to teach him a genjutsu on a bus, Ming Jing awoke in the Naruto world in the body of a Kurama Clan child during the Nine-Tails’ attack on Konohagakure. His uncle revealed that he was the clan’s last direct bloodline. 1

As a young heir, Ming Jing inherited The Goose Illusionary Book and chose four of its 108 techniques as the basis of his path. His stated mission was to defeat Tsukuyomi and establish the book as the supreme Illusion Technique. 3 21 He helped raise the declining Kurama Clan into the wealthiest clan in the Land of Fire, gaining public fame less as a shinobi than as a moral exemplar called “Gentleman Ming Jing.” 10

He graduated from the Ninja Academy alongside Tsukishiro Yuexi and Qing Yan under Asuma Sarutobi. During Asuma’s bell test, Ming Jing’s understanding of genjutsu changed after reflecting on Master Xing’s teaching that Illusion Techniques require self-belief. 23

Ming Jing entered politics rather than remaining solely a ninja. He became Prime Minister of the Land of Fire, later also serving the Land of Grass, while building the Kurama Clan’s influence through training, diplomacy, missions, and the Police Department. 172 225 679 His long-term ambition expanded into a continent-wide political system built around a Council, Six Ministries, Cabinet, and Upper Council; the Five Kage ultimately agreed to the proposal. 842 843

After sixteen years in the ninja world, Ming Jing returned to a parallel version of his original world and found that only four years had passed there. Learning that recognition by at least 80,000 people could enable someone from the ninja world to cross over, he returned through a bronze mirror and later brought Yuexi to his original world. 858 861 867

Appearance

Ming Jing has jet-black hair and a well-built physique. He is often depicted in refined robes or Hanfu, though he also wears white training clothes when practicing or teaching. 55 293 614

  • In Sage Mode, a silver pear-blossom tattoo appears on his forehead; the five petals represent the Kurama Clan’s Five Senses Manipulation. 122
  • He carries himself with the composure and presence of a high-ranking official, enough to immediately quiet a classroom of Ninja Academy students. 224
  • His preferred weapon is the light, sharp Azure Luan Blade. 218

Personality

Ming Jing is calm, observant, and highly self-assured. He approaches opponents through preparation, deception, and psychological pressure rather than relying only on force; even his duel with Orochimaru was framed as a negotiation for information on the Kurama Clan. 60

He is playful and teasing with people he trusts, particularly Itachi, Yuexi, Hinata, and Konan. His humor often clashes with his political authority, giving him an unpredictable reputation among allies. 8 10 90 276

Despite his ambition, Ming Jing thinks in long-term terms. He refuses to kill Kabuto because Kabuto may be strategically useful in the future, evacuates his clan rather than gambling their lives on Naruto’s conflict with Pain, and seeks political institutions that can reduce large-scale war. 653 703 843

Abilities & Skills

Illusion Techniques

Ming Jing specializes in genjutsu and aims to become the strongest Illusion Technique user. His techniques stem from both the Kurama Clan’s bloodline and The Goose Illusionary Book. 23 122

  • Uses illusions to alter perception, create false bodies, fracture scenery, and trap opponents in controlled mental spaces. 60 122 389
  • Defeated the Six Paths of Pain while infiltrating Amegakure by bypassing their detection and exploiting illusion techniques. 398
  • Uses Tōshō Daigongen to control a genjutsu space. 389
  • Can project visual sharing through Five Senses Manipulation, allowing allies to coordinate remotely. 664
  • His genjutsu is powerful enough to temporarily defeat Orochimaru, though Orochimaru’s willpower allowed him to awaken. 124

Five Senses Manipulation

The Kurama Clan’s Kekkei Genkai allows Ming Jing to interfere with perception. It is represented by the five-petaled pear-blossom crest. 122

  • Slightly shifted Orochimaru’s vision to conceal his true position during their first battle. 60
  • Manipulates auditory perception and can make targets experience false surroundings. 122 740
  • Uses mental intrusion techniques such as Go Gen: Pushing the Platform into the Wall to attack consciousness directly. 740
  • Possesses unusually high resistance to genjutsu, easily breaking Takuo Kurama’s illusion after returning to Konoha. 380

Heavenly Court and Sage Mode

Heavenly Court is Ming Jing’s chakra-control state, reached by directing chakra from his glabella into the Heavenly Court Acupoint. It grants him emotional stillness, heightened control, and the ability to simulate combat mentally. 59 60

  • Heavenly Court Mode rapidly heals severe injuries and restores physical function through massive chakra accumulation. 695
  • Sage Mode manifests a silver pear-blossom mark and grants access to stored Sage Chakra. 122
  • His Sage-enhanced physical strength can shatter an Earth Style wall, though Kakuzu’s hidden explosives still caught him off guard. 343
  • Sage Mode allows him to fight opponents such as Orochimaru and Obito with improved speed, perception, and combat precision. 122 690

Wind Style

Ming Jing’s natural chakra affinity is Wind Style. He trained intensively after discovering it through chakra paper. 160

  • Learned Wind Style: Wind Severing Technique in less than an afternoon. 161
  • Uses Wind Style offensively through techniques including Great Breakthrough, Thousand Blades, Shockwave, Rising Tornado, and Wind King Barrier. 316 740

  • Can use Wind Style for high-speed aerial travel, eventually forming green chakra wings to cross vast distances. 767
  • Taught Naruto Wind Style nature transformation, beginning with the cutting properties of Wind Slash. 614

Swordsmanship and Taijutsu

Ming Jing combines swordsmanship with illusion, Wind Style, and close-range martial arts.

  • Deflected Itachi’s kunai and Fireball Technique with swordsmanship during their spar. 8
  • Wields the Azure Luan Blade, a sharp and lightweight sword; it was eventually broken by Madara’s Dragonlight Katana. 218 827
  • Uses Wing Chun in close combat and overwhelmed Sasuke and Obito with Heavenly Court Mode-enhanced taijutsu. 695
  • Can predict attacks such as Danzō’s invisible Wind Style projectiles without the Sharingan. 316

Barriers, Space, and Higher Techniques

Ming Jing employs advanced barriers and spatial techniques in addition to standard ninjutsu.

  • Blade-less Head Shave (Transport Gate) is a Goose Illusionary Book technique associated with movement and survival. 3
  • Void Break reflects enemy ninjutsu, including attacks from Obito and Sasuke. 695
  • Shadow Binding Barrier restrained Four-Tails Naruto long enough for Yamato to seal him. 653
  • Opened a portal between Kaguya’s dimensions by drawing a circular gateway. 834
  • Used crystalline walls to seal Kaguya’s spatial gates and prevent her All-Killing Ash Bones from reaching him. 836
  • Hid the moon to make Madara’s Infinite Tsukuyomi impossible. 827
