Background / History

Mahito's earliest documented activity is a series of human-soul experiments in a mountain area. He had been turning victims into Cursed Spirits when he encountered Natsu Hiraku, Maki Zenin, Panda, and Toge Inumaki. Suguru Geto had specifically warned him that Natsu's eyes could tear apart souls, making Natsu a natural counter to Mahito's technique. 76

Interested in Natsu's ability to affect souls, Mahito initiated a philosophical debate over whether the soul precedes the body. When Natsu answered that the soul resides within the body, Mahito rejected the conclusion and argued that the body changes according to the soul. Their disagreement immediately became a battle. 76

Natsu's Mirror Shatter destroyed half of Mahito's split soul, but Mahito escaped through his ability to divide himself. The loss required at least a month of recovery, after which he returned at full strength and continued cooperating with Geto. 76 99 130

Appearance

Mahito normally appears as a humanoid Cursed Spirit with a stitched face and mismatched pupils. His body is highly mutable and can be reshaped into specialized forms. 144 146

Mahito is intensely curious about souls and treats human suffering as experimental material. He approaches his victims with an unsettling warmth, offering affirmation and companionship while encouraging them to indulge their resentment or violence. 76 97

He is playful and easily amused by pain, betrayal, and panic, but is not reckless when facing an opponent who can truly threaten him. Mahito repeatedly chose to flee from Natsu Hiraku after recognizing that Natsu could damage his soul directly. 99 130

Despite his disregard for human lives, Mahito showed concern when Dagon was hungry and agreed to find humans to feed the Cursed Womb. 134

Junpei and the Movie Theater Incidents

Mahito murdered victims in a movie theater and used his soul manipulation to create mutated bodies. He then befriended Yoshino Junpei, validated Junpei's hatred, and offered him power while continuing his human experiments. 96 97

When Natsu and Yuji tracked him to an abandoned factory, Mahito attempted to escape by splitting his soul and drawing out Ryomen Sukuna. Natsu nearly trapped him with Domain Expansion: Mirror Sculpt Two Sides, but Mahito escaped before the Domain fully enclosed him. 99

Sewer Battle and Night of a Hundred Demons

Mahito filled the sewers with artificial Cursed Spirits, confronted Natsu directly, and deployed modified Curses to limit Natsu's Domain options. 140 144

During the battle, Mahito revealed his complete form, released compressed human souls, collapsed the sewer around Natsu, and activated his Domain Expansion to stop Natsu's finishing strike. 145

He later fled toward populated areas and used civilians as hostages, intending to make them die from Natsu's attacks rather than his own. 146 147

Cursed Womb Death Painting Experiment

Mahito and Geto captured three men in Sendai City and used Cursed Womb Death Paintings to transform them into Special Grade Cursed Spirits. 185

Battle with Kokichi Muta

Bound by an agreement with Kokichi Muta, Mahito repaired Kokichi's incomplete body through Inanimate Transformation. 200

Kokichi then fought Mahito with Ultimate Mechamaru Absolute Form, a Simple Domain, and soul-damaging attacks. Mahito survived the apparent finishing blow and prevented Mechamaru from sending a warning beyond the Curtain. 201

Final Battle and Soul Preservation

After Toji Fushiguro destroyed Mahito's soul bodies and his allied Cursed Spirits fell, Mahito chose to fight Natsu Hiraku and Todo Aoi to the death. He activated his Domain and transformed into Kill All is Spirit Body. 216 226

Natsu used Ama-no-Sakahoko to sever Mahito's Domain, while Todo's positioning technique created an opening for their coordinated assault. Mahito was left ruined in the rubble as Geto moved to absorb him. Before that could happen, Natsu pulled Mahito's fading soul into his own body to preserve it. 227
