Background

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village as a thin and frail child under the neglect of his father, Tang Hao. Tang Hao frequently disappeared, drank heavily, beat and cursed him, withheld money, and took Tang San's earnings. Sister Eliza secretly fed Tang San, while Old Jack pitied his circumstances 8.

At the village awakening ceremony, Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power. Although initially offered free training by Su Yuntao, he feared Tang Hao's response and returned home to ask permission 9.

Tang Hao rejected Spirit Hall, denounced Blue Silver Grass as useless, and struck Tang San when he defended the Hall's aid to the village. Tang San finally confronted him over years of abuse. Tang Hao eventually allowed him to attend the academy but refused any financial support, then disappeared after taking the household's money 9 14.

Appearance

Tang San is described as a slender, frail child whose poverty is evident in his worn clothing.

  • Thin and weak-looking during his childhood in Holy Soul Village 8.
  • Slender figure; clothing was faded and often stained with coal dust from blacksmith work 35.
  • Referred to as handsome by Michael during their first meeting 21.
  • His contracted Blue Silver Grass carries faint blue-gold radiance around its roots 39.

Personality

Tang San is reserved, observant, and intensely driven to improve his situation. He remained polite toward Su Yuntao and Michael, approached Yu Xiao Gang cautiously after his secret was exposed, and showed discipline during Spirit Ring absorption and Contractor training 9 19 21 28 39.

Years of neglect left him hardened and resentful toward Tang Hao. Later, financial hardship and isolation at Spirit Academy made him envious of classmates with contracted Soul Beasts, though he continued working and training rather than giving up 8 34 35.

He increasingly questions Yu Xiao Gang's reliability, privately recognizing his teacher's lack of practical ability and stagnant cultivation. Despite this disdain, Tang San still acknowledges Yu Xiao Gang's theoretical knowledge and remains reluctant to forget his early guidance 40.
