Background

Xiao Wu lived in the Star Dou Forest with her mother, Da Ming, and Er Ming. Her mother was killed by the human Pope, leaving Xiao Wu determined to enter the human world, understand humanity, and eventually avenge her. Before departing, she promised Da Ming and Er Ming that she would return with carrots after achieving her revenge. 13

While leaving the forest, Xiao Wu encountered Ye Su by a lake. He immediately recognized her Soul Beast identity and her desire for vengeance, then told her that her mother Ah Rou’s soul would be reborn as his child. Moved by the prospect of seeing her mother again, Xiao Wu accepted his offer and went with him to Martial Soul Hall. 14

Ah Rou was subsequently reborn as the guardian angel Raphael. Xiao Wu was devastated when Raphael did not recognize her, but Solomon and Ye Su encouraged her to see Raphael’s protective impulses as lingering maternal instinct. Xiao Wu and Raphael gradually began to get along as friends in their new lives. 15 16 17

Her mother’s death initially drives her toward vengeance, and she is willing to leave the safety of the Star Dou Forest despite Da Ming and Er Ming’s concern. 13 The possibility of Ah Rou’s rebirth quickly shifts that focus into hope, showing how strongly Xiao Wu is motivated by family rather than hatred alone. 14 16

She is affectionate, playful, and possessive around Solomon, whom she calls “Brother Solomon.” She openly clings to him, teases him about Gabriel, and objects when he pays attention to other women. 18 38 Despite this childish behavior, she is also fiercely loyal: she defends Solomon before Da Ming, Er Ming, and Di Tian, using her own contract with Xiao Ba as proof that his proposed human–Soul Beast partnership can work. 31 32
