Background / History

Jin Buque became the second-ranked member of a sworn brotherhood after a game of “Raising Sand.” Cao Chanxin took first place through cunning, while Jin accepted his leadership; Old Gouzi and Xue Pan became the third and fourth brothers respectively 55.

A long-lived cultivator, Jin had cultivated for more than three centuries by the time ghost messengers sought him. Ordinary minor ghosts were unable to capture him easily 64. He and Xue Pan had previously acted under Big Brother’s direction in events connected to Wu Sheng, leaving them exposed to karmic consequences 64.

Jin regularly serves as one of Big Brother’s closest caretakers and defenders. After Big Brother returned from rescuing Xue Pan in the Underworld, Jin demanded that Xue Pan bring water to wash Big Brother’s feet and scolded him for wasting Big Brother’s sacrifice 66. He is also protective and practical, taking charge of care arrangements when Big Brother is injured or vulnerable 66 81.

Although often blunt and hot-blooded, Jin can be perceptive and cunning. He understood when Big Brother was trying to defuse the situation with the Jade Emperor and joined in praising the Jade Emperor rather than escalating the conflict 233. Against the centipede spirit, he convincingly pretended to be under its control before turning on it at the decisive moment 316.
