Background / History

Haotian originally served as a gatekeeping Dao boy at Zixiao Palace. Dao Ancestor Hongjun selected him to establish and govern the Heavenly Court, appointing Yaochi as Empress and placing the Thirty-Three Heavens under their management. Hongjun also remade Haotian's appearance and bestowed a dragon-shaped destiny upon him, transforming him into a majestic middle-aged Emperor. The Six Sages objected to a former attendant receiving the position, but could not challenge Hongjun's decision openly 226.

After assuming office, Haotian sought to expand the Heavenly Court's influence. He travelled to the Sun Star intending to bring the leaderless Sun Palace lineage under Heavenly Court control following the deaths of Di Jun and Donghuang Taiyi 229. His approach led to a confrontation with Jinyan Dao Lord, the new Solar Supreme, who destroyed Haotian's Nine True Dragons, imperial carriage, and accompanying Demon Gods 230.

Haotian and Yaochi later discovered that Star Gods, Water Gods, and land-based Gods and Demons were being drawn into an extensive, secretive organization with a strict hierarchy. The discovery alarmed them as they attempted to recruit forces for the Heavenly Court 233.

Following his appointment, Haotian changes from a youthful attendant into a middle-aged Emperor with a majestic, royal bearing. His Heavenly Emperor position manifests through overwhelming golden Divine Power and dragon imagery 226 230.

Haotian is ambitious and highly conscious of the status granted by his office. He regards the Heavenly Court as the proper authority over the Primordial World and expects other factions, including the Sun Palace lineage, to submit to him 229.

He is also proud and easily angered when his authority is disregarded. During his clash with Jinyan Dao Lord, he invokes both his appointment by Hongjun and his status as Heavenly Emperor in a condescending attempt to compel respect 231. Beneath this outward confidence, he is pragmatic enough to recognize a poor battlefield choice and regrets confronting a Solar Supreme on the Sun Star itself 231.

Haotian holds grudges quietly. When Primordial Heavenly Venerate proposes replacing him with Guangchengzi, Haotian suppresses his anger before the Saints but resolves to retaliate if the opportunity arises 258.
