Background
Ai first meets Hara Shichi after his death and transport to the Duel Continent. Calling herself Yi, she recruits him to help abolish dueling supremacy and restore dueling to an ordinary game. She presents herself as his “cheat ability,” though her status as a clone leaves her initially unable to provide a complete Deck. 1
No one gave Ai her name; she chose it herself after hearing its sound. Hara later begins calling her “Aiai,” though she accepts the nickname without fully understanding his reason. 4
As a being from another world, Hara possesses no innate Duel Power. Ai absorbs all Duel Power generated through his duels, then uses it to print cards for him. Their early partnership is therefore mutually dependent: Hara supplies victories and strategic skill, while Ai supplies the power, card knowledge, and supernatural support he lacks. 5 198
Ai gradually gains substance as Hara accumulates Duel Power. After Hara and the masked girl tap into the academy’s Duel Power reserves, Ai becomes fully materialized for the first time. 28 29 31
She publicly reveals herself as the Goddess of Duels while reclaiming trapped Duel Power during the confrontation with the Dark Duel God. Later, she identifies herself to White Board and the Anti-Duelist Alliance, explaining that a Duel King may make a wish to the Goddess of Duels after winning their duel. 142 312 313
During the trials connected to the ancient illusion, Ai becomes distressed by Hara’s interest in Yino, a girl who closely resembles her. Hara chooses to continue because uncovering Yino’s connection to Ai may reveal Ai’s own history. 271 272 Ai later concludes that she and the Dark Duel God may have originated from human girls sacrificed and transformed into the souls of divine beings. 300 343
At the Festival’s final stage, Ai explains that her main body is required to observe every duel, while her clone remains with Hara. 350 After the loss of Duel Power, she lives with Hara, Yukikaze, and Sera and considers herself human, albeit with some remaining Duel Power. 361 362
Appearance
Ai usually appears as a petite silver-haired girl with deep blue eyes and a faint divine radiance. In her early intangible state, an invisible barrier separates her body from physical surfaces. 5 15
- Long silver-white hair, later described as flowing like a galaxy. 15 362
- Azure, sapphire, or ice-blue eyes. 4 329
- Commonly wears a light or sky-blue dress. 5 15
- Often floats rather than walks, particularly when concealing her presence from others. 100
- Can alter her appearance, including manifesting as a taller, mature-bodied woman. 200
- Her “true form” retains her familiar appearance but carries a stronger sacred, mysterious presence. 359
Personality
Ai is playful, boastful, and fond of declaring herself omniscient and omnipotent. She regularly teases Hara, calls him “A-Qi,” and treats their partnership with a mixture of divine pride and childish possessiveness. 1 6 22
Behind her arrogance, Ai is lonely. Before Hara, humans approached her only to make wishes, and she had never had a friend or partner. Her bond with Hara gives her a relationship in which she is valued for more than wish-granting. 6
Ai is intensely protective of Hara and frequently jealous of girls around him, including Ghost Ogre, the masked girl, Shigure, and Hara’s other companions. 13 32 105 Her attachment eventually becomes explicit when she confesses that she wants to be exclusively with him. 281
Although she initially frames herself as fundamentally above humans, Ai increasingly embraces humanity: eating sweets, sleeping, sneezing, experiencing embarrassment, and ultimately recognizing the need for a life not solely centered on Hara. 100 213 298
