Background

Loss and decline

Tsunade lost her brother two years before Hyuga Bin first encountered her, then lost her boyfriend that same year. The losses left her with hemophobia, extinguished much of her passion for life, and contributed to a destructive gambling habit. Bin first finds her leaving a casino after a major loss and debt accumulation. 4

Her drinking could be equally dangerous: while drunk, she accidentally struck the young Bin hard enough to leave him severely wounded and unconscious. She immediately sobered up, treated him, and apologized sincerely. 7

Mentorship of Hyuga Bin

Before leaving Konoha, Tsunade personally seeks out Bin and arranges a month of training at the old Senju estate. She initially intends to teach Medical Ninjutsu, gives him her medical handbook, and has him study alongside Kato Shizune. 13 14

Bin’s unusually rapid progress impresses Tsunade. By the end of the month, he can use the Chakra Scalpel and has reached a level comparable to most medical chunin in technique, though not experience. Tsunade gives him scrolls for the Mystical Palm Technique and Creation Rebirth, warning that the latter restores the body at the cost of lifespan. 14
