Background / History

Mei is the daughter of Ryoma Raiden, president of ME Corp. Her mother died when Mei was young, while Ryoma was frequently absent due to work; he later disappeared two years before the Changkong City outbreak. Mei came to Changkong City to search for him, despite knowing little about ME Corp’s actual activities. 19

Before the outbreak, she was a second-year student at Senba Academy and was known as “Queen Raiden,” having reportedly rejected twelve confessions in a single day. 12 She inherited Hokushin Itto-ryu swordsmanship, though she claims to have nearly forgotten much of the family style. 14

During the outbreak, the Third Herrscher’s will within her took control, making Mei the source of the Honkai phenomenon devastating Changkong City. Overwhelmed by despair and unable to control herself, she attempted suicide before Yu Luo found her. 12 26

She carries intense guilt over the Zombie Girls created by the Honkai outbreak and fears harming the people close to her. This guilt initially drives her toward self-destruction, but she gradually chooses to live and take responsibility for controlling her power. 14 26 34

Mei is especially compassionate toward Bronya after learning that Bronya was modified into a weapon. She refuses to treat Bronya as a tool and insists that Bronya should follow her own will rather than obey anyone’s orders. 17 24

Story Role / Major Arcs

Changkong City Outbreak

Mei first appears under the Third Herrscher’s control as the source of the Changkong City Honkai outbreak. She attacks Yu Luo and Kiana with lightning, but the Herrscher’s instability causes her to withdraw before killing them. 8 9

After being found unconscious, Mei recovers enough of herself to travel with Yu Luo and Kiana. She apologizes for her actions, though the group keeps watch because the Honkai will could possess her again. 12 13

Search for Ryoma Raiden and Bronya

While escaping Changkong City, Mei learns that the ME Corp insignia appears on Titans and other robots. This leads the group to ME Corp, where Mei discovers her father’s diary and enters the laboratory using her access credentials. 15 19 20

Ryoma’s final diary entry reveals that he had been making a weapon for Mei before his disappearance. Mei receives Plasma Shadow Show, which becomes central to her battles against Bronya’s machines. 19 20

Mei becomes determined to rescue Bronya after learning that she was modified into a living weapon. She disables Bronya’s robot, attempts to reach her suppressed consciousness, and later protects her as an older sister. 17 22 24

Third Herrscher Incident

After Yu Luo is critically wounded protecting her, Mei loses control and the Third Herrscher fully manifests. The Herrscher annihilates the attacking Honkai Beast, damages the Hyperion, and battles Murata Himeko. 26 27 28

Yu Luo ultimately defeats the Third Herrscher by destroying her lightning wings, leaving Mei unconscious. She, Kiana, Bronya, and Yu Luo are then brought aboard the Hyperion. 32

St. Freya Academy

Following the Changkong City incident, Mei agrees to attend St. Freya Academy. Himeko urges her to value the life Yu Luo protected and promises to train her to control her own strength. 34
