Background / History

The Celestial Race ruled the naturally suspended Celestial Continent, a continent-sized landmass above the inner sea enclosed by city walls with a Sky Banishment function. They imposed the continent’s entry rules and charged other races substantial fees for Ascension Jade Tokens. 215 269

Their homeland was divided into five rings. The first and second rings were reserved for Celestial Race residence and reproduction; the third ring contained Celestial City; Humans were restricted to the fourth and fifth rings, while entering the third ring could result in execution. 216 270

The race publicly portrayed itself as inherently noble and civilization-creating. Later revelations identified them as the former Chá Li Tribe, a subordinate tribe of the ancient Human Race that allegedly deceived the Human Race Great Emperor, seized the Celestial Continent, erased or altered history, and adopted the name “Celestial Race” to legitimize its rule. 832 915

The Celestial Race monopolized the Celestial Continent’s dense Immortal Spiritual Qi and controlled numerous Essence Stone and Spirit Stone mines. Their need to maintain the Ancient Immortal Spirit Formation led them to extract and refine Human Race essence blood, relying on enormous quantities of blood from lower-level Humans as a substitute for Sage-level essence blood. 496 507 509

Lin Zihan described the Celestial Race as the strongest race in the Great Wilderness. Their natural advantages included powerful souls, fast cultivation, intelligence, and broad proficiency in magical arts, alchemy, weapon refinement, talisman crafting, and formations. 217

Treatment of the Human Race

The Celestial Race officially classified Humans as slaves. Human visitors were insulted at the gates of the Celestial Continent, barred from privileged rings, and subject to execution if discovered in Celestial City. 215 216

Conflict with Jiang Ping'an and the Human Race

Jiang Ping'an first encountered the race’s institutional discrimination when a gate guard rejected him and Lin Zihan on the grounds that Humans were slaves. This humiliation became a major motive in his eventual campaign to remove the Celestial Race from the Celestial Continent. 215 377

Celestial Race Sages repeatedly attempted to eliminate Jiang Ping'an after he destroyed Winged Race tribute sites and liberated millions of Human captives. Ten Sages joined a Winged Race ambush at Heaven Feather Mountain, while later groups of eighteen and ten Sages pursued or attacked him. 476 479 574

The Celestial Race later invaded the Great An Kingdom, recruited or coerced other races into its campaigns, and fought the Human Race army directly. Their forces suffered major losses against Human Race Flying Sword formations and eventually withdrew from an assault on Ping'an City after Jiang Ping'an defeated Sage Brund. 488 490 492 559 560

Downfall

Jiang Ping'an’s infiltration through his Gale Wind Avatar exposed the Celestial Race’s use of Human essence blood in the Ancient Immortal Spirit Formation. The revelation established that the Celestial Continent had originally belonged to the Human Race and that the Celestial Race were usurpers. 496 507 509

After destroying the Sky Gazing Mirror, Jiang Ping'an launched attacks on the Celestial Continent, killed gatekeepers and Sages, defeated Celestial Race Great Emperors, and devastated cities in the second ring. 889 890 905

The Celestial Continent was ultimately brought down into the inner sea, destroying much of the race’s accumulated wealth and long-distance ships. Jiang Ping'an then publicly revealed the Chá Li Tribe’s history, causing widespread shock among Celestial Race members; some reportedly went mad or self-destructed. 914 915

Jiang Ping'an later killed the Celestial Race Great Emperor and destroyed the fallen Celestial Continent with Chaos Stones. Following the loss of their homeland and dozens of Sages, the Human Race organized a seventeen-million-strong united army for an extermination war. Within two to three years, the Human Race army had annihilated roughly half of the Celestial Race. 919 939 941
