Background / History
Hong Yuan existed in Chaos alongside his elder brother, Pangu. During this period, he continuously absorbed Chaos Qi and laws even in slumber, though he initially remained unable to reach the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal of the Origin realm. He possessed the Chaos Bead and regarded Pangu’s possession of three Chaos Supreme Treasures as proof of the Great Dao’s favoritism. 2 3
After Pangu transformed into the Primordial Wilderness, Hong Yuan regarded the Three Pure Ones and Twelve Ancestral Witches as his nephews. He intended to complete his own Form Transformation before visiting Pangu Hall and assisting Pangu’s descendants where appropriate. 10
Hong Yuan entered Hong Yuan Hall, a self-contained world filled with Chaos Qi, Glazed Secret Gold mountains, pillars bearing the traces of the Three Thousand Demon Gods, and ten Chaos Spiritual Roots. After refining his three Chaos Supreme Treasures over three kalpas, he completed his Form Transformation upon a green Lotus Platform. 11
He began shaping the Primordial Wilderness through teaching and patronage. His first sermon enabled three thousand beings beneath Hong Yuan Mountain to undergo Form Transformation; he subsequently accepted them as attendants of Hong Yuan Hall. 13 He also nurtured the Three Pure Ones before their emergence, personally infusing purified Chaos Qi into their Primordial Spirits. 14
Hong Yuan later established Reincarnation at the Blood Sea by summoning the Earthly Path and merging the Six Paths Reincarnation Disk into it. With Yang Mei’s assistance, he created the eighteen layers of hell; the resulting merit was divided sixty percent to Hong Yuan, thirty percent to Yang Mei, and ten percent to Ping Peng. 117 118
As the Great Desolation developed, Hong Yuan repeatedly aided its major figures, refined and bestowed powerful treasures, revived fallen experts, and opened a gate allowing residents of the Hong Yuan Realm to enter the outside world. 299 498 645 He later fought beyond the Great Desolation against hostile universes and high-level Primordial Tai Chi beings, sustaining severe injuries while protecting his side. 660 677 748 764
Appearance
Following Form Transformation, Hong Yuan took the form of an immortal-like youth in moon-white robes. He has sharply defined features, sword-like brows, deep star-like eyes, and long hair secured with a jade hairpin. 11
- Moon-white robe and jade hairpin. 11
- Deep, ancient eyes described as dark yet bright, as though containing countless stars. 11
- A confident, carefree, and transcendent bearing. 11
- Later appeared in immaculate green robes upon returning from the Primordial Universe. 676
Personality
Hong Yuan is casual, playful, and often irreverent despite his overwhelming status. He enjoys teasing Yang Mei, Luohu, and even the Three Pure Ones, preserving an image of their infant Primordial Spirits rubbing against him so that he can embarrass them later. 14 104 133
He is generous toward those he considers his own, providing disciples, attendants, allies, and Pangu’s descendants with teachings, merit, spiritual roots, refined treasures, and cultivation resources. However, his generosity is often practical: when arranging benefits for Yang Mei, he openly treats merit as an “advance payment” for future work. 48 61 118 299
Hong Yuan is fiercely protective of his familial ties. He identifies the Three Pure Ones as his nephews, calls Pangu his Elder Brother, and reacts angrily when Hao Shi uses “Yuanshi” in the name of a defensive treasure. 10 161 660
