Background / History

Yang Mei was born from a Hollow Willow as a Chaos Demon God destined to answer a calamity. His innate command of the Space Law and aid from the Great Dao Father set him apart even from other beings born of Chaos. 11

After entering the Primordial Wilderness, Yang Mei initially feared Hong Yuan and questioned how he had escaped the Immeasurable Calamity. Hong Yuan refused to explain, instead giving him cryptic guidance. Their later exchange of Space Law insights changed Yang Mei's view: he expected to guide Hong Yuan, but gained insight from Hong Yuan's perspective instead. 14 15

Yang Mei subsequently traveled with Hong Yuan to locate surviving Chaos Demon Gods. He used his superior perception to locate their hidden auras, while Hong Yuan broke their protective formations. 16

Appearance

Yang Mei uses an innate Dao body with a deliberately elderly appearance. Hong Yuan specifically describes his face as old and wrinkled, a look Yang Mei chooses to retain despite possessing the cultivation to alter it. 116

  • His original form is a Hollow Willow. 11
  • His natal Willow Tree can appear as a tender green sapling less than half a meter tall before expanding into a heaven-supporting willow. 263
  • He is commonly addressed as an “old Daoist” and favors the mannerisms of an elderly cultivator. 15 116

Personality

Yang Mei is proud of his standing as the Space Demon God and expects his name to command respect. Xi Qu's dismissal of his identity provokes him into killing the demon beast even after it offers to become his mount. 22

Despite this pride, he is highly pragmatic around Hong Yuan. He recognizes Hong Yuan's overwhelming potential early, eagerly accepts opportunities that provide merit or cultivation resources, and readily agrees to help with projects that promise benefits. 15 116 118 262

He is also a sharp-tongued provocateur. He taunts Luohu during their clashes, takes amusement in other ancestors being shocked by Hong Yuan's realm, and planned to record their reactions for his own entertainment. 62 63 263

Yang Mei is cautious when facing unknown threats. After discovering a rift to a new universe, he refuses to enter or even send an External Body through it before consulting Hong Yuan. 693

Abilities & Skills

Space Law

Yang Mei's defining Great Dao Law is Space. His mastery is innate and remains his greatest combat, defensive, and investigative asset.

  • Detects the hidden auras of surviving Chaos Demon Gods and leads Hong Yuan to their locations. 16
  • Erases Chaos's crushing pressure from countless living beings with a wave of his sleeve. 39
  • Evolves Space Law inscriptions through his Willow Tree to severely wound Shen Ni. 54
  • Creates the eighteen layers of hell beneath the Blood Sea through repeated full-power spatial strikes. 118
  • Detects spatial rifts leading to other universes. 693
  • His Space Law is partially suppressed when operating in the Primordial Universe, whose spatial rules differ from those of the Great Desolation. 453

Spatial Combat

Yang Mei combines Space Law with his natal treasure to fight opponents above the level of ordinary cultivators.

  • Confronts Shen Ni directly during the Fierce Beast conflict. 54
  • Remains composed while trapped in Luohu's Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. 263
  • Battles Luohu, Karma, Qian Kun, and Five Elements simultaneously, even while at a slight disadvantage. 264
  • Uses spatial barriers to contain the stray energy from Luohu, Shen Ni, and Karma's fight. 659

Dao Lectures

Yang Mei can teach the Dao on a vast scale.

  • Lectured to countless beings for 4,000 Yuan Hui, pausing so listeners could consolidate breakthroughs. 74
  • Received 60% of the resulting Heavenly Dao Merit; Hong Yuan received 30%, while the Dao field received 10%. 74
  • Was nearly exhausted by the lecture despite his cultivation. 74

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Willow Tree — Yang Mei's natal magical treasure, transformed from part of the origin of his Hollow Willow true form. It was originally an Innate Supreme Treasure and can expand into a colossal willow for combat. 263
  • Chaos Spirit Treasure Willow TreeHong Yuan later upgrades the Willow Tree into a low-grade Chaos Spirit Treasure. 452
  • Eight Treasures Brocade Pouches — Used to collect Saint spirits and Primordial Universe origin during the Great Desolation Saints' campaigns. 547

Relationships

  • Hong Yuan — Fellow Chaos Demon God, principal collaborator, and source of much of Yang Mei's cultivation support. Their relationship develops from Yang Mei's fear and caution into mutual respect, shared travel, and repeated cooperation for merit and major projects. 14 15 16 21 116 118
  • Luohu — Old acquaintance and competitive rival. Yang Mei repeatedly mocks him, clashes with him using the Willow Tree, and withstands his Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. 17 263 264
  • Ping Peng — Underworld associate whom Yang Mei is assigned to support after the establishment of Reincarnation; Ping Peng is comfortable enough to speculate that Hong Yuan is impersonating Yang Mei. 118 207
  • Primordial Phoenix — Protects her from hostile pressure at a gathering after sensing Hong Yuan's aura on her, then asks after Hong Yuan's condition. 30
  • Karma, Qian Kun, and Five Elements — Fellow Chaos Demon Gods and later combat rivals; they join Luohu against Yang Mei while also studying the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. 263 264
  • Dawn — Companion in the Primordial Universe expedition and fellow recipient of Hong Yuan's proposed Saint-refined pills. 452 472
