Background / History

Before his birth, Di Jun accepted responsibility for Tai Yi's offense against the Dao Venerable. He pledged lifelong service to the Dao Venerable and even offered to become a mount in exchange for his brother's life. After witnessing the Dao Venerable's grandeur, he and Tai Yi resolved to atone for their earlier conduct 141 145.

As an early-stage Grand Unity Golden Immortal, Di Jun entered the Thirty-Six Heavens with Tai Yi and pursued the Imperial Ziwei Palace. His restrained approach to the palace's guards contrasted with Tai Yi's readiness to fight; Di Jun judged that their strength did not justify reckless action 166. With Tai Yi and Lin Niu holding off challengers, Di Jun eventually entered and took residence in the Imperial Ziwei Palace 183.

Appearance

Di Jun carries the bearing of an emperor: he has a sharply chiseled face, narrow and deep eyes, and an ever-present faint smile. Imperial Purple Qi surrounds him when he exerts his authority, giving him an imposing and noble presence 184 199.

Di Jun is ambitious, self-assured, and deeply invested in imposing order on the Thirty-Six Heavens. He presents his seizure of heavenly-palace authority as a duty to establish order for the Dao Venerable, and he refuses to compromise on founding the Heavenly Court 197 201.

He is also diplomatic when strategy demands it. He initially approaches rivals politely, recruits capable subordinates rather than simply threatening them, and treats Kun Peng with conspicuous respect despite their difference in status 166 189 224. At his wedding, he endures repeated insults from E Zhu to preserve the ceremony's dignity and avoid a larger confrontation 360 361.

Di Jun cares strongly for those close to him. He postpones treatment for his own injuries to assist Tai Yi and Lin Niu with their heavenly palaces, and Tai Yi's death drives him into such grief and rage that he destroys two of his own supreme treasures in retaliation 187 411. His confidence can become arrogance, however; his boast after taking the Imperial Ziwei Palace is swiftly punished by Zhen Yuanzi's Earth Book 184 186.
