Background / History

Xie Yushan was born in Heishan, Liaoning. She is the daughter of Lin Huixin, commander of the Dalian Shatterdome Base escort fighter wing, and Xie Bo. Her mother and maternal grandmother were deceased, and she had a younger half-sister, Lin Yuxuan. Her parents’ arranged marriage lacked an emotional foundation, contributing to Yushan’s estrangement from her father. 9 16

Before Taishan’s first deployment, she had trained in neural synchrony almost every day. Her prior experience made her a stabilizing presence for Xiao Shou after his early neural-connection failure, and their shared memories revealed their family histories to one another. 9

When Category 3 Kaiju Bladehead threatened Hong Kong, Yushan and Xiao Shou insisted on deploying despite their incomplete synchrony training. Mao Shucheng ultimately approved their request, and Taishan defeated Bladehead in its first combat operation. 10 14

Following the victory, Yushan’s classified file identified her as Taishan’s co-pilot, a Second Lieutenant with a strong will and a recommendation for regular psychological therapy due to suspected family-related paranoia. She was later promoted to Captain. 16 50

During the battle against Black Fiend on Guishan Island, Lin Huixin provided fighter support after Taishan was surrounded by Kaiju illusions. He deliberately rammed his fighter into the real Black Fiend to expose it and save Taishan. His death drove Yushan’s synchrony value sharply upward; through overwhelming rage, she delivered the punch that destroyed Black Fiend’s head. 93 94

Yushan subsequently learned from Lin Yuxuan and her aunt that Lin Huixin had remembered her birthdays and repeatedly tried to see her, but had been prevented by her mother. This revelation began to dissolve her resentment toward him. 95

She continued to co-pilot Taishan through the defense of Hong Kong against Tengu and the East Sea battle against Blackbeard. During Taishan’s engagement with Category 4 Kaiju Xila, the Kaiju’s tail pierced the cockpit between the pilots’ seats.
