Calling in Reinforcements
The girl on the phone said, "In that case, I'll transfer you to the principal. Please hold." The call was then transferred.
Is it the principal? Or Professor X?
While still pondering whether Professor X's abilities could be transmitted through the phone line, the call was answered again. A gruff female voice rudely asked, "What do you want?"
Who are you?
"Click!" "Beep beep beep." The phone call was disconnected. A sense of familiarity instantly washed over me.
As the saying goes, "What goes around comes around." Another saying goes, "Retribution may be delayed, but it will come eventually." What could Henry do after being wronged? He could only fight back.
As soon as the phone was answered, Henry said, "This is Henry Brown, I--" "Click!" "Beep beep beep, ah, that familiar sound."
Henry decided to endure it one more time. If he got hung up on again, he'd go and ask in person. He couldn't guarantee there wouldn't be a huge mess by then.
When the phone was answered again, Henry quickly said, "Hey, don't hang up again, or I'll get angry."
A heavy breathing came from the other end of the phone. After a moment, he said, "What do you want?"
"I'd like to ask you for a small favor. I worked so hard for you before. I deserve some credit for my efforts, so it's only fair that you help me out a little. It doesn't have to be anything violent or criminal. It just might require me to travel a bit far, to Switzerland."
Mystique, the newly appointed principal of the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, asked in a relatively gentle tone, "What are you doing?"
"A woman has fallen into a coma due to illness, and her family is unsure whether to resuscitate her or what to do next. Therefore, they need to ask someone with Mind Stone abilities to consult with her."
Mystique grumbled, "Back in Europe, you wouldn't just find a gypsy old woman, have her use a Crystal to perform a spell, and that would solve the problem."
Henry retorted just as irritably, "The abilities of Mutants have no legal effect whatsoever in civil cases, except as grounds for criminal prosecution."
"It's already unreliable of me to come to you, and now you're giving me even more unreliable advice? Just tell me whether you'll help Yang or not. If you won't help, I'll go and refuse, saying I can't do anything about it."
Mystique said viciously, "Help! Why wouldn't I help? You just wait and see, you owe me again."
Henry protested, "I helped you guys fight the aliens last time, didn't I? I just want a favor, why should I owe you one more?"
"The favor I did last time was only enough for me to answer your call calmly. If you want me to do you a favor, then you'll owe me another one."
Holy crap! What kind of robber logic is this?!
Don't think that just because you're a woman and grew up under the Stars and Stripes, this kind of thing is justifiable. You can always renege on your debts later!
Henry, having made up his mind, said, "Alright, alright. Consider it a favor. How quickly can you get here? It'd better not be Professor X."
"That person in the wheelchair will need someone to take care of them, too much trouble. I remember there are quite a few Mutants with Mind Stone abilities among you, any ordinary one will do."
Mystique on the phone could clearly hear her clicking her tongue as she said, "You think this is like buying Apple at a market, where you can pick and choose? Besides, that idiot's retired. I don't know where he is, and I don't want to look for him."
"I'll contact someone else to see if she's willing to go. What If...? she is, she should be able to act quickly, though I'm not sure. We'll see. Where are you located?"
Her words were rambling and lacked clear logic. However, Henry noticed that Mystique female pronoun "She" instead of the male pronoun "He." Could this mean that Mind Stone abilities are more commonly found in female Mutants?
Henry, without uttering his inner grumbling, replied, "I'm currently at the Geneva University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland."
"Go wait for them at the main entrance. If they don't show up within half an hour, then they're gone." Click! Beep beep beep
Looking into the microphone, Henry had an urge to fly to New York and talk to someone. In the end, he gently hung up the microphone and took a deep breath.
Should he go back to the ward to explain the situation? After thinking for a moment, Henry headed straight for the main entrance of the hospital. He didn't want to return to that oppressive atmosphere.
It's said that even an upright official finds it hard to settle family disputes. The situation of those two half-brothers is only more complicated.
Henry may enjoy watching the drama unfold, but he should at least ensure he's in a safe place. It would be ridiculous if he got caught up in it and became the one directly involved.
We arrived at the main entrance of the university hospital. In Geneva during winter, the nighttime temperature, although not below zero Celsius, was still very low.
Although this slight chill was negligible to the Kryptonian Physiology, standing there waiting was still incredibly boring. Henry could only breathe out his breath and look up at the sky.
Although the night sky is very dim in urban areas with severe light pollution, it is still manageable for Kryptonian ' eyesight.
Seeing some low-magnitude stars clearly isn't a big problem.
In his eyes, the sky was still the Milky Way. Then Henry saw something he didn't want to see. Was it too late to run?
The question had barely crossed my mind when a figure descended from the sky. It was already dark, otherwise it would have caused quite a stir.
The person who came to her door was none other than Jean Grey, Phoenix. She was dressed casually in jeans and a bomber jacket, but her long, flowing red hair was truly eye-catching.
"Still can't control your power?" Henry asked calmly, trying his best to appear composed.
"No, it's just that seeing you made me so agitated that I wanted to hit someone, that's why I did that," Jean Grey said bitterly, clenching her fists.
"If you want to fight, let's arrange another day, somewhere else. This won't do." Henry, who had already decided to renege on his promise, wasn't afraid to make any promises to the X- X-Men. He could just run away later.
Jean Grey said restrainedly, "I didn't intend to fight you in a place like this. Where is he?"
"Follow me." Henry turned to lead the way, but stopped after only a couple of steps. Looking back, he asked, "Do you have a way to change your appearance?"
"Why? Am I that scary?" Jean Grey's eyes were cold and filled with a deathly gaze, as if she could erase the person in front of her from reality at the slightest provocation.
Henry could only explain, "It's not a matter of whether it's scary or not, it's just that I guess you might still be on the wanted list in the United States. There are surveillance cameras inside the hospital, so to avoid trouble, changing your appearance a little shouldn't hurt."
"There are many ways to do this. The simplest is to have plastic surgery to adjust your appearance. Another way is to use your mental power to make others see a completely different person."
"Or you could distort the moisture or light around you to create some kind of invisibility effect. With your current abilities, doing these things shouldn't be difficult. Whichever you prefer, or whichever is easiest to use, is fine."
