Method of Treatment
At this point, Blade added, "There is one issue. The window of opportunity for garlic extract to suppress my bloodlust is getting shorter and shorter."
I worry that one day, garlic extract will no longer be able to suppress my primal urges.
"What would happen? Would you become a full-fledged Vampires, unable to walk in the sunlight anymore? Or would you become a mindless Monster, biting anyone you see?" Black Super asked casually.
Blade replied earnestly, "I don't know. I don't want to know how things will turn out."
Under a microscope, the behavior of Blade cells when exposed to garlic extract is quite different from how garlic extract kills infected Vampires cells.
Some cells, like those infected with Vampire Virus, rupture and die upon contact with garlic extract. But other cells can revert to their original, normal form.
The most important part, red blood cells, will gradually turn into biconvex red blood cells once infected with the Vampire Virus.
Vampires have lost their stem cell hematopoietic function will experience a decline in oxygen-carrying capacity when all their red blood cells become biconvex. At this point, they can only replenish their blood supply with external blood to prevent their entire body's cells from suffocating and dying.
When garlic extract is applied to Blade, it can cause some of the biconvex red blood cells to revert to their normal biconcave shape, allowing them to resume function. However, each time garlic extract is ingested, it doesn't only affect the blood cells, but also the body's cells.
This explains why Blade also feels pain after garlic extract enters the body. Then, as more and more red blood cells become ineffective, the number that can be restored to normal by garlic extract is limited, which is why Blade's window of opportunity becomes shorter and shorter.
After completing the initial examination, the Black Super lifted its head from the microscope.
Whether it was Blade or Abraham Whistler who seemed to be busy with their own things, the action of the Black Super instantly caught their attention.
"Any results?" the old Vampires hunter with the tumor-like leg asked with concern.
"I have a general idea." After explaining his discovery, Black Super said, "I have blood samples. Given time, I'm confident I can create Antidote for Blade's Vampires."
"But doing so would turn Blade into a completely human being, eliminating the Vampires's flaws. This also means he would lose the enhancements that come with his Vampires constitution."
"That won't do!" Abraham Whistler interjected before he could finish. "Our feud with Vampires runs deeper than you can imagine. If they find out Blade has turned human, they'll definitely go to any lengths to throw a Blade Feast."
The black man wearing sunglasses looked helplessly at the elder who was both a mentor and a friend, seemingly complaining that the other person had made the decision for him.
Abraham Whistler wasn't embarrassed at all, and retorted confidently, "What are you looking at me like that for? All I know is that What If...? I were Vampires, I would fucking do the same. You don't think you're some nice guy who's loved by them, do you?"
He told Black Super, "So this can be done, but only after we've wiped out all the Vampires in the world."
Black Super said, "Okay, so that means that option is out of the question. Another method is that I can create a restoring agent to restore your red blood cells to their normal state."
"However, this restoration is not permanent. The red blood cells will still be affected by the Vampire Virus during the circulation process and gradually lose their function. At that point, you will need to use the restoration agent again."
"The downside is that you'll be dependent on this drug for life. And I can't guarantee that you won't develop drug resistance, which would require you to keep increasing the dosage."
"The advantages are also obvious: you can retain your Vampires nature, possessing greater strength, faster speed, and more agile reflexes than a normal person."
"As for the so-called bloodlust issue, it's very likely a psychological reaction triggered by the body. But it could also be due to other reasons, and I can't say for sure until I encounter it. You can only rely on your own willpower to resist it."
"Let's make the reducing agent you mentioned," Blade said preemptively, not wanting Abraham Whistler to make the decision for him anymore.
Black Super said, "Well, What If...? you won't let me take Blade's blood sample, I can work here. But I need some chemical and biological materials to synthesize it. I'll give you a list."
Before Black Super got involved, the two Vampires hunters, who had already accomplished many great things, naturally had their own ways of sourcing special goods.
The list provided by Black Super included some controlled items. Regardless of whether they were controlled pharmaceuticals or not, he left them all to Abraham Whistler to handle, lest he be too considerate and make the other party think that things were easy or that his efforts were expected.
After thinking for a moment, Black Super added, "What If...? you want to be more certain of the outcome, I would like to have a pure Vampires blood sample so I can compare it with Blade's."
"Do you want to be turned into Vampires, or are you born that way?" Abraham Whistler asked.
"Either is fine. What If...? you feel there's a difference between the two types, it's best to have one of each. Are you saying Vampires are born that way?" Black Super asked curiously.
Abraham Whistler replied, "It's difficult for Vampires to conceive, but there's still a chance. Sometimes, if the mother is purely human..."
It can increase the chances of conception. Children born with Vampires- like constitution are simply born that way.
Black Super pondered and said, "This definition seems to have nothing to do with the parents' condition. In other words, Vampires children born to Vampires parents who have been transformed can also be classified as 'born'."
"What If...? that's the case, there shouldn't be much difference between the two. That's why this kind of definition is needed to forcibly make a certain type of person seem more noble."
Abraham Whistler frankly stated, "Also, What If...? you want blood samples, we'll have to capture Vampires alive."
This is troublesome, and there are also unknown risks involved.
"Why? I only need one vial of blood," Black Super, puzzled.
At this point, Blade explained, "Vampires possess an unknown kind of connection. Even if we take a vial of blood and it leaves the vampire's body, as long as we kill the Vampires, the blood sample will turn to ashes."
"How could this be!" Black Super asked again, "Is there any way to detect this ash?"
At this point, Abraham Whistler replied, "No. It's like dust; you won't find a single trace of evidence linking it to anyone. It's as if this Vampires never existed. Don't you find that incredible?"
Black Super seemed to understand, saying, "It's clearly a virus, but unlike normal viruses, it doesn't iterate and mutate. So, it wouldn't be so surprising if it had a few more strange characteristics."
"Then do you need blood samples from other Vampires?" Blade asked.
While writing down a list of the materials he needed, he pondered for a moment. "If we can prepare them, it's better to have them, "Black Super replied.
I need someone to compare my blood to. But if that's inconvenient, using your own blood sample is also acceptable.
Having put things this far, Blade and Abraham Whistler have decided to capture a Vampires alive. Wouldn't they look incompetent if they failed?
Anyway, they didn't say they wanted Vampires of any particular status. What big problem could there be if they captured a low-level vampire?
