Separate Calculations
Barbara Morse then asked, "Is this also why you chose to support her? Even with such an unreasonable request?"
Nick Fury shrugged and said, "Powerful people have the right to be capricious. She thinks she can cover the worst-case scenario, so nothing can stop her from choosing the path she wants, even if it's riskier."
"But our wishes and the risks involved don't need to be taken into account by her, right? As long as no mistakes are made and no accidents happen, can't we achieve the most ideal result?"
Hearing more complaints than explanations, Barbara Morse felt somewhat embarrassed. "You don't approve of Lieutenant Danvers's actions either?"
"The key point is that our opinions are not taken into consideration by the person making the decision. What's the point of me expressing agreement or disagreement?"
Okay, that's a complaint, isn't it? Barbara Morse asked again, "Didn't you discuss it with Lieutenant Danvers?"
Nick Fury said helplessly, "Because of the Kree, her current stance is to help the Skrulls. She's gone from one extreme to another."
"It's useless to persuade someone like that to give up. The only thing you can do is go along with her wishes and keep the harm within a certain range, to prevent her from completely siding with the Skrulls and severing ties with Earth."
Barbara Morse said unexpectedly, "But her friends are here, her memories are here—"
"If she bypasses us and sneaks off to meet us, there's nothing we can do to stop her, is there?"
"So you chose to accept the Skrulls had ulterior motives, and you didn't tell Lieutenant Danvers about it?"
Nick Fury casually remarked, "In the diplomatic history of various countries, political asylum has often been granted to certain individuals. Is it because these people are good people and deserve help? No, there are quite a few criminals and murderers among them."
"But as long as they have political value, they are worth providing diplomatic asylum to and using as bargaining chips. I believe the Skrulls have ulterior motives. But I also believe they have value to be exploited."
Barbara Morse was dumbfounded. "You're just going to cooperate with them like this? Aren't you afraid the Skrulls will find out?"
Nick Fury chuckled, "When I said earlier that Talos and I both agreed that the other wasn't a jerk, the truth is quite the opposite. We're both absolutely certain that the other is a damn jerk!"
"That's precisely why we have room to cooperate. In contrast, Carol Danvers is too upright, which is actually a problem."
Stunned, Barbara Morse was speechless for a long time. After a moment, she stammered, "The adult world is so dirty."
Nick Fury said seriously, "But this also determines whether you will be mediocre in the world of espionage, or whether you can become a master strategist. The old man's special attention to you must be because he sees some kind of quality in you."
"Don't waste it. At least when you want to do the right thing, if you don't have the power of Carol Danvers to get others to cooperate willingly and willingly, then you should have enough wisdom to influence everything."
The struggling girl asked one last question, "Will the Skrulls continue to target Henry?"
"Ha, I'm still worried about that man," Nick Fury joked, then added, "Don't worry, General Ross promised me he wouldn't target Henry Brown anymore. That was one of the conditions for allowing them to come to Earth."
Seeing the girl quiet down, Heinrich Nick Fury didn't say anything more. Instead, he turned back to talk to the Skrulls.
Many of them were people he had dealt with before, so he naturally knew how to use them. But there were also many he was meeting for the first time, and he needed to get to know them before deciding how to leverage their strengths.
He was quite envious of the Skrull Empire's technology. There was no need to use all their research talent as spies, What If...? there were any among them.
Meanwhile, the Skrulls, led by General Ross, were also holding secret talks.
"Priscilla, from now on you will be solely responsible for being Nick Fury's liaison."
The female Skrulls was named certainly understood the meaning behind it, because she was also one of the few Skrulls without a partner.
Priscilla asked, "Do you want me to have a romantic relationship with Nick Fury?"
"Yes."
"But based on my observation, that Earthling isn't so easily influenced. Perhaps by directly impersonating him, I could even take over his role."
"But we also know from our history that some extraordinary people are not so easily replaced. Some heroes are not accomplished because of their status or power, but because of their outstanding abilities and wisdom."
"Do you think Nick Fury is that kind of person?"
Talos analyzed seriously, "Yes, I think he is. And he is the only link between Carol Danvers, Earth, and us."
"What If...? something goes wrong with him, is it possible that Carol Danvers wouldn't know? Or that she could deceive him for a while, but how would Captain Marvel react once the truth comes out?"
"Her biggest reason for helping us, in my opinion, was not that we were persecuted and that aroused her sympathy. It was simply because of what the Kree did to her that determined her stance."
"So Nick Fury can't get into trouble, at least not because of us, otherwise we might lose our biggest asset."
"To be able to force Ronan the Accuser's fleet to retreat single-handedly is no small feat."
After listening to General Ross's explanation, Priscilla said, "But you must also know that man is not so easily swayed. What If...? he truly possesses that quality, as you say, What If...? he were to succumb, wouldn't that prove he isn't?"
Talos said, "I know that, but I don't intend to do that. You just need to get close to him. I'll have someone find a way to learn about this person's past and his preferences."
"As long as you don't make him dislike you, you've succeeded. I believe that with your personality, no one can resist being attracted to you once you've spent enough time with you."
Priscilla gave a wry smile and said, "I'm not a trained spy. Have you considered the possibility What If...? I might fall in love with him too? I might not be able to exert influence on him as you command."
Talos said frankly, "It's precisely because you haven't received professional spy training that I was able to assign you this task. Otherwise, wouldn't he have seen through those obvious inducements and intentions?"
"Overly specialized training can sometimes be a hindrance. As long as he's willing to accept you, he'll consider the Skrulls' feelings more when things happen, and that's enough."
"What I fear most right now is that he will drive a wedge between us and Carol Danvers. After all, she's an Earthling, not one of us. That's your most important task."
Having figured it out, Priscilla nodded and said, "I know what to do."
At this point, another Skrulls asked, "So what should we do with that Kryptonian?"
Talos said, "Ignore him. You're the ones creating trouble. I've read his report on Earth; he's completely harmless."
"Now that we're going to cooperate with Earthlings, let's avoid doing anything unnecessary to prevent jeopardizing our partnership. Besides, he's just one person; what impact can he possibly have?"
