Warring States Period

Madara led the Uchiha during the clan wars against the Senju. His authority was absolute: Uchiha shinobi feared even approaching him without permission, and a single order was enough to make them retreat. 207

After Izuna's death, Madara received his brother's eyes and awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Though outwardly composed, he was driven by grief and revenge against Tobirama, whom he held responsible for Izuna's death. 207 210

Madara encountered the displaced Kagami and recognized him as an anomaly because he possessed an Eternal Mangekyō unknown to the era. Believing the Dragon Vein may have sent Kagami from the future, Madara sheltered and treated him, then asked him to protect the Uchiha rear during the coming battle. 207 209

Hashirama sent Madara a truce proposal, but Madara refused to answer. He led the Uchiha into a decisive battle against the Senju, manifesting a Perfect Susanoo over one hundred meters tall to confront Hashirama's Wood Golem. 209 210

Founding of Konoha

Following the war, Madara accepted peace with Hashirama, and the Uchiha and Senju moved into the newly founded Konoha. 218

Madara hoped to become First Hokage so that the Uchiha would remain central to Konoha's future. Hashirama instead won the Hokage election overwhelmingly, leaving Madara increasingly isolated within the village. 219 221
