Background / History

The Zerg encountered near the Yasman Tribe arrived on the island only a few centuries earlier, long after the Blood Vine Warriors had existed for thousands of years. Their Hive produced Regeneration Eggs, making the Zerg valuable enough that the Yasman Tribe chose enslavement over extermination. 432

In the World War on the Original Continent, Zerg society was divided between civilized island-dwelling Zerg and the continent’s War Zerg. The civilized Zerg possessed laws, a complete social structure, and a royal-like clan, while the War Zerg consisted of three great nests and innumerable smaller Queen-centered nests that expanded through evolution. 1894

A Zerg Mother begins as a Larval Stage organism capable of cultivating Mantis Insects and establishing a small hive. Mother Bodies may evolve into Queens and then Mother Queens, but resource shortages, rival broods, raids, and predation by other races make this progression dangerous. 1897

On Pandora Star, the Zerg were the planet’s original dominant force. They awoke from underground in the year 3530 and entered a prolonged war with the Empire’s Third Fleet. Without an Overlord, most Queen Insects initially fought independently, though orbital cannons and gravity missiles eventually pressured them into forming a loose alliance. 3470 3474

Appearance

Zerg appearance varies sharply by caste and evolutionary rank. Lower-ranking soldiers are heavily chitinized arthropod-like organisms, whereas advanced Zerg increasingly resemble humanoids. 1895

  • Lower soldier bugs combine mantis and scorpion traits and are roughly the size of large dogs. They are durable, adaptable, and capable of carrying heavy loads. 1895
  • Stingers resemble armored spiders with four chitinous limbs, cylindrical mouths, broad abdomens, and spiked backs. 1900
  • Queen Insects can appear close to human women, distinguished by chitinous limbs and antennae. 1895
  • Some intelligent Zerg possess humanoid proportions, chitin-covered heads and legs, and arm-blades in place of hands. 914
  • Specialized combat forms include giant butterfly-like Er Gui, near-humanoid Demon Beasts, colossal Leviathans, and aerial Demon Flame Dragons. 1920 1907 2603 2610

Biology and Society

Queen-Centered Broods

Each Insect Nest is centered on a Queen Insect, which directs the brood’s expansion and evolutionary development. Queen Insects can nurture newly born Mother Bodies before sending them out with worker insects to establish their own territories. 1894 1897

  • War Zerg nests are independent forces built around Queen Insects. 1894
  • Higher-ranked Zerg become increasingly humanoid in appearance. 1895
  • In the original five-stage hierarchy, a Queen Insect is followed by Queen Bee, Queen, Queen Insect, and Overlord. 1898
  • An Overlord can command all Queen Insects; only one had appeared in the Original Continent’s recorded history, nearly wiping out the Totem Tribes. 1898

Collective Consciousness

Zerg units generally possess limited individual consciousness and follow a superior collective will. Pandora Star’s native Zerg retain some individual awareness, while Jila’s ordinary brood units are almost entirely dependent on the highest consciousness. 3472

  • Killing an enemy Queen Insect can cause its brood to lose coordination. 1903
  • Jila’s ordinary Zerg receive commands to work, kill, or return to the creeping carpet for decomposition into bio-energy. 3472
  • If Jila dies, her brood collapses: its Zerg lose control and its Insect Nests wither and decompose. 2602
  • Heroic or elite individuals can show greater initiative, such as Bru independently maintaining an Insect Nest. 2603

Communication

Some intelligent Zerg communicate through sound waves at specialized frequencies rather than spoken language. 914

  • A Zerg elder’s language was unintelligible to Su Xiao and Bubuwang because its communication depended on frequency rather than ordinary pronunciation. 914
  • Zerg Queens can negotiate, exchange genetic information, and use a Zerg consciousness gathering place to communicate across broods. 1920 3743

Abilities & Skills

Hive Construction and Troop Production

Zerg workers construct living Insect Nests that contain specialized organs for energy storage, egg hatching, nurturing, evolution, and defense. 1902 3472

  • Mantis Soldiers can establish Insect Nests and perform maintenance, repair, and corpse disposal. 1900 3474
  • Hatching organs produce Zerg eggs in batches, while nurturing sacs mature combat and worker units. 1902 1906
  • Evolution Chambers can produce elite combat individuals during cultivation. 1906
  • Secondary Insect Nests function as extensions of the Mother Nest rather than fully independent nests. 4146

Bio-Energy Conversion

Insect Nests convert organic matter or local energy resources into bio-energy, which sustains the brood, creates new units, and drives evolution. 1900 3470

  • First Order nests can gain bio-energy by consuming creature flesh and blood; stronger prey yields more energy. 1900
  • Jila’s carnivorous brood specializes in plundering biomass, unlike Pandora Star’s native Zerg, which primarily mine Life Ore. 3472
  • Creeping carpet can reclaim fallen friendly and enemy bodies, reducing the effective cost of attrition warfare. 2601
  • Large armies require constant bio-energy expenditure even outside battle. 2612

Creeping Carpet

Creeping carpet is a living external organ that spreads from the Insect Nest, sustains Zerg forces, converts corpses, and supports territorial expansion. 3472 3501

  • It can decompose friendly Zerg after their stored energy is exhausted, returning biomass to the Mother Nest. 3669
  • Energy Conversion Spore Sacs can establish wide areas of creeping carpet on battlefields. 3501
  • Jila later develops an 85% bio-energy conversion rate, allowing the brood to recover most of a fallen unit’s cultivation cost if its remains are absorbed. 3743 3744
  • After becoming an Empress-level Queen, Jila’s carpet can also collect dispersed soul energy and convert it into Evolution Points. 3507

Specialized Castes

Zerg broods cultivate distinct units for labor, transport, scouting, defense, and combat. 2600 2610

  • Mantis Soldiers — Basic workers that establish nests, maintain structures, and process corpses. 1900
  • Worker Scorpions — Advanced workers responsible for structure construction, creeping-carpet maintenance, and terrain modification. 2600
  • Spore Tanks — Giant non-combat transport units used to move biomass and supplies. 2600
  • Stingers — Third Order combat Zerg used for hunting and assault. 1900 2601
  • Demon Beasts — High-cost combat Zerg with powerful physical abilities and combat instincts; their extreme growth leaves them with lifespans of only 40–50 days. 1907 3473
  • Leviathans — Colossal ranged Zerg capable of carrying commanders and launching Living Missiles. 2603 2604
  • Demon Flame Dragons — Aerial combat Zerg that use Dragon Flame, particularly effective against structures. 2612
  • Titan Beasts — Expensive high-end combat units whose plasma cannon barrages are considered the brood’s strongest direct firepower. 3744 3760

Zerg Buildings

Advanced nests cultivate living structures for surveillance, defense, spatial interference, regeneration, and energy management. 2610 3476

  • Sensor Towers detect hostile activity. 3476
  • Slaughter Sentry Towers serve as defensive structures and can release high-intensity attacks when charged. 2610
  • Stalkers detect and interfere with spatial fluctuations. 2612
  • Spine Star Towers reinforce the Mother Nest’s health, defense, and regenerative capacity. 2610
  • Bio-Reactors charge offensive and defensive Zerg buildings. 2610
  • Brutal Turrets defend the main camp against invading swarms. 3770

Void Gate

At Swarm Level 80, Jila awakens Void Gate, an Ultimate-grade transport ability. 3690

  • Jila can use a designated Zerg as a coordinate to open a 100-by-50 void gate between the Mother Nest and a distant location. 3767
  • The gate remains active for 60 minutes and can transport massive numbers of Zerg. 3767
  • It can be used once per natural day. 3767

Elemental Zerg Metamorphosis

Jila’s brood eventually advances beyond Demon Zerg into Elemental Zerg. 4137

  • Elemental Power prevents will erosion by external forces and ensures the Overlord’s absolute control over subordinate Zerg. 4137
  • Gifted Life grants a higher growth ceiling, though elite individuals cannot normally reach Peak Tier. 4137
  • Elemental Mother Nest absorbs Natural Elemental Energy but must also output a corresponding amount to avoid harming Jila’s Elemental Affinity. 4137
  • Elemental Zerg use an independent Lv.1–100 measurement system; individuals beyond Lv.95 cannot exist for more than 30 natural days. 4137

Relationships

  • Zerg Queens — Each Queen commands her own brood; most native Queens act independently unless compelled by an Overlord or an external threat. 1894 3470
  • Zerg Overlord — Other Queens are normally required to obey an acknowledged Overlord; Jila is an exception due to her unusual development path and reputation. 3743
  • Yasman Tribe — Longstanding hostile neighbors of the island Hive; the tribe sought to exploit Regeneration Eggs and enslave the Zerg rather than destroy them. 421 432
  • Totem Tribes — Major enemies of the War Zerg on the Original Continent, though the five tribes also fought among themselves. 1894
  • Extinction Law Shadow — The Zerg hold a non-hostile relationship with Extinction Law Shadows and regard them with considerable fear and respect. 914
  • Empire’s Third Fleet — Pandora Star’s Zerg wage a brutal territorial war against the Fleet over Life Ore. 3470
  • Su Xiao — He develops and commands Jila’s brood as a military force, using its growth, bio-energy economy, and troop production in major conflicts. 1895 2603
  • Jila — Zerg Queen, later Overlord, whose exceptionally combat-focused brood becomes the Demon Zerg and eventually the Elemental Zerg. 3470 4137

Story Role / Major Arcs

Yasman Island Hive

Su Xiao enters a Zerg Hive while assisting Old Baer’s attempt to obtain a Regeneration Egg. The Hive contains dangerous Sting Scorpions, Elite Sting Scorpions, Flying Mantises, a Zerg Queen, and a concealed spacecraft containing Core Energy. 420 423

Original Continent World War

Su Xiao captures the Larval Stage Zerg Mother Jila and establishes a new Insect Nest. Through hunting, raids, Life Stones, genetic memories, and warfare, he turns her brood into a rapidly expanding combat force. 1897 1898 1905 1907

Jila’s Zerg clash with the Sun Tribe, competing Zerg Queens, the Tiger Hornet faction, and the Diya Tribe. The brood’s strength scales from small hunting teams to hundreds of thousands of Demon Beasts, Leviathans, and Demon Flame Dragons. 1930 2604 2612

Pandora Star

Su Xiao establishes Jila’s brood on Pandora Star using a Zerg Mother Embryo as a foundation. Unlike the planet’s native mining-oriented Zerg, Jila’s brood relies on aggressive warfare, bio-energy plunder, and mass production of elite combat Zerg. 3470 3472 3475

The brood takes territory from rival Queen Insects, confronts Kara’s corrupted world-class Insect Nest, and becomes one of the major powers in Pandora Star’s southern region. 3485 3491

Eternal Light World

The Demon Zerg permanently station their main hive in the Eternal Light World and fight world-ending swarms. Their Swarm Level reaches Lv.100 after the destruction of hostile swarm cores, unlocking Jila’s strongest Ultimate Abilities. 3770 3771

Elemental Zerg

Following Jila’s elemental metamorphosis, the brood becomes Elemental Zerg. Rather than relying solely on mass production, it develops Elemental Potential, upgraded creeping carpet, and specialized units for the Abyss Campaign. 4137 4142 4146

Trivia

  • Zerg are described as unusually clean creatures: Mantis Soldiers bury bones and fur to prevent bacterial growth, infection, and evolutionary risk. 1900
  • Lower-tier Zerg lack a Charisma attribute. 1900
  • Zerg do not possess morale in the conventional sense; they continue fighting under command until destroyed. 2599 2604
  • Most Zerg are not as aggressive as Jila’s brood. Jila is considered an extreme combat-focused exception among a species that normally balances warfare, resource acquisition, and reproduction. 3470
  • Advanced Zerg biotechnology can create weapons such as Living Missiles, plasma, and molten acid, making it comparable to conventional technological warfare. 3471
