Background / History
Jinbe previously served as a Dragon Palace guard and became a Shichibukai to protect Fish-Man Island. He fought on Whitebeard's side during the Summit War, where he witnessed Ronglin's role in Ace's rescue; the injuries he sustained there had not fully healed when he later encountered Ronglin at Fish-Man Island. 1342 1343 1346
When Ronglin exposed Hody Jones's planned coup and warned that Whitebeard's death would leave Fish-Man Island vulnerable, Jinbe initially demanded answers and questioned whether Ronglin could truly replace Whitebeard as the island's protector. He ultimately accepted Ronglin's proposal, judging a fifty-percent chance to secure a future for the Fish-Man race as worth risking everything for. 1343 1344 1345
As Ronglin's top subordinate, Jinbe helped expose Hody's conspiracy, capture Hyozou, and present the evidence surrounding Queen Otohime's murder to King Neptune. Fish-Man Island's subsequent stability and reorganization strengthened his faith in Ronglin's cause. 1346 1354
Appearance
Jinbe is a stout, tall Whale Shark Fish-Man with a fleshy, intimidating face and two prominent tusks. Despite his bulky frame, he moves with exceptional agility in combat. 1428 1476
- Broad, powerful build suited to close-quarters combat.
- Whale Shark Fish-Man features, including fearsome tusks. 1428
- Can move with surprising speed and lightness despite his size. 1476 1895
Personality
Jinbe is calm, serious, and cautious when Fish-Man Island's welfare is involved. He does not accept Ronglin's claims blindly; before joining him, he demanded an explanation for Ronglin's attacks on Fish-Men and carefully weighed the risks of the proposed alliance. 1343 1344
His loyalty is rooted in a desire to secure freedom, safety, and eventual acceptance for the Fish-Man race. Once convinced of Ronglin's intentions, he commits himself completely, prepared to protect his leader and advance or retreat alongside Fish-Man Island. 1345 1346 1803
Though formidable and ruthless against genuine threats, Jinbe can show mercy. After adopting Ronglin's teaching that mercy should be shown where possible, he initially chose to spare pirates who only intended robbery; he killed their leader only after the man attempted a treacherous attack. 1428 1429
Abilities & Skills
Fish-Man Karate
Jinbe's primary fighting style uses force transmitted through water and shockwaves. His strikes can break weapons, overwhelm groups, and injure powerful New World opponents.
- 9000 Kai: Hollow Thrust — A Haki-infused palm shockwave powerful enough to force Ronglin to use Time Stop to escape; its use worsened Jinbe's lingering Summit War injuries. 1342
- Six Thousand Tiles: Heart-Piercing Fin — Countered the pirate leader's Spiral Sword and killed him with a single blow. 1428 1429
- Shark Tile Fist / Shark Tile Punch — Broke Cracker's Haki-reinforced swords and battered his armor-created body. 1459 1476
- Five Thousand Tile Fist — Blasted apart Cracker's biscuit armor with successive palm strikes. 1476
- Seven Thousand Whole-Body Presses — Sent ordinary CP0 soldiers flying across a ship. 1369
- Six Thousand Pound Cannon — Matched Katakuri's weapon strike and gave Jinbe a slight advantage in their strength contest. 1895
- Tangled Roof Tile Fist — Interrupted Cracker and sent him flying with a shockwave to the abdomen. 1478
Fish-Man Jujutsu and Water Manipulation
Jinbe can gather, shape, and weaponize surrounding water, making him particularly dangerous against Devil Fruit users and enemy fleets.
- Suishin Ryukagetsugoshi — Redirected a waterfall into a giant wave that dissolved Cracker's biscuit soldiers. 1477
- Breaking Current — Fired a compressed water attack past Ronglin to intercept Cracker's attempted sneak attack. 1478
- Surfing — Summoned and rode surging water currents to continue his assault on Cracker and to crush a group of Pirate Alliance fighters. 1478 1520
- Water Shot — Launched droplets with cannonball-like penetration to force two incoming enemies to evade. 1460
- Water Heart: Sea Current Shoulder Throw — Raised a wave more than ten feet high to overwhelm over a hundred attackers. 1520
- Secret Technique: Sea Dragon Tornado — Formed a dragon-like deep-sea undercurrent that intercepted a barrage of underwater cannonballs. 1580
- Created a water curtain around Ronglin's ship to neutralize cannon fire and used sea creatures to disrupt enemy warships. 1370
Fish-Man Judo
Jinbe also employs Fish-Man Judo in close combat.
- Used Fish-Man Judo against Smoky during the Star Alliance's clash with the BIGMOM Pirates. 1893
Underwater Combat and Sea Communication
The sea is Jinbe's strongest battlefield. His speed, strength, and awareness increase dramatically underwater, where he can communicate with marine life and manipulate currents.
- Swims through the deep sea at cannonball-like speed and can descend without creating bubbles. 1580 1768
- Communicates with fish and other sea creatures to search for targets or mediate conflicts. 1768 1796 1798
- Negotiated with the Kraken, later defeating it and earning enough trust to mediate its feud with the Bald Sea Monster. 1796 1798
- Dodged hundreds of the Kraken's tentacle strikes underwater before knocking it away with one punch. 1796 1797
- Is regarded as effectively unmatched in naval combat; even powerful land fighters are considered far more vulnerable once he enters the sea. 1344 1415 1952
Combat Awareness
Jinbe is difficult to ambush and reads opponents' movements quickly.
- Detected assassins attempting to sneak aboard his ship and disposed of them without difficulty. 1427
- Anticipated Cracker's high-speed attempt to bypass him and attack Ronglin from behind. 1478
- Reacted to Vander Decken IX's incoming projectile and shattered it with a palm strike. 1350
Relationships
- Uchiha Ronglin — Leader and trusted ally. Jinbe joined him to seek a future for Fish-Man Island and became his top subordinate; their partnership develops into mutual strategic trust. 1345 1346 1637 1952
- King Neptune — Former ruler Jinbe serves and consults on matters affecting Fish-Man Island. Jinbe brought Hyozou and evidence concerning Queen Otohime's murder before him. 1346 1952
- Queen Otohime — Her death and lifelong wish for Fish-Man freedom remain central to Jinbe's resolve to protect the island. 1346 1347
- Hody Jones — Enemy and coup leader whose conspiracy Jinbe helped expose. Jinbe personally entered Fish-Man District to confront him and his forces. 1347 1348
- Hyozou — Initially protected by Jinbe during Ronglin's attack, but later captured after attempting to assassinate Jinbe. 1342 1344 1346
- Princess Shirahoshi — Jinbe protects her and treats her status as the Sea Emperor's power as a secret requiring caution. 1350 1827
- Jazz — Jinbe's final disciple; their relationship is described as a semi-master-disciple bond, and Jazz possesses Fish-Man Karate training. 1518 2078
- Cracker — BIGMOM Pirates Sweet Commander decisively defeated by Jinbe, whose water techniques countered Cracker's biscuit constructs. 1476 1477 1479
- Katakuri — Opponent during the Star Alliance's conflict with the BIGMOM Pirates; Jinbe held a slight advantage in their direct clash. 1895
- Kraken — Initially a hostile deep-sea creature; after Jinbe defeated and aided it, it became receptive to his mediation and joined the Star Alliance. 1796 1798 1799
