Background / History

The Witch Clan is one of the two dominant powers of the Primordial Era, alongside the Demon Race. Its members descend from Pangu's bloodline and rely primarily on physical cultivation rather than spiritual cultivation. The clan's Twelve Ancestor Witches lead it from the Pangu Temple, while Great Witches such as Hou Yi and Kuafu command considerable status and martial strength 12 19 37.

Hou Yi's meeting with Luo Xuan begins the clan's relationship with the Human Race. After discovering that Luo Xuan's Thunderfire Pills can temper Witch bodies, Hou Yi seeks additional pills for his tribesmen. The Twelve Ancestor Witches test the pills themselves; one junior witch breaks through to the Second Revolution of the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Technique 12 14.

Hou Tu subsequently negotiates a formal exchange with Luo Xuan: the Witch Clan supplies Spiritual Roots and rare materials, while assigning witches to protect Shouyang Mountain and the Human Race in return for elixirs. The Human Race's pills rapidly improve the physical bodies of the clan, enabling the Witches to decisively defeat Gui Che's Demon Race forces under Kuafu's leadership 16 17 18.

The clan repeatedly intervenes to defend its human allies against Heavenly Court aggression. Hou Yi protects Luo Xuan from Gui Che, and the Twelve Ancestor Witches defeat Di Jun, Taiyi, and their army at Shouyang Mountain. Later, after Luo Xuan warns them that Human spiritual essence can penetrate Witch bodies, they dispatch six Ancestor Witches and many clan members to reinforce Shouyang Mountain 23 37.

Following an assault on the Heavenly Court, Dao Ancestor Hongjun orders the Demon Race to rule the heavens and the Witch Clan to rule the earth, prohibiting either side from entering the other's domain for ten thousand years. The enforced truce does not end the conflict: the Demon Race later develops simplified Witch-Slaying Swords capable of damaging Witch bodies, and repeatedly renews its campaign against the clan 52 73 74.

Kunpeng later exploits the rivalry between Gonggong and Zhu Rong with the Soul-Bewitching Lamp. Luo Xuan suppresses the manipulated Gonggong and prevents the Ancestor Witches from immediately launching a retaliatory war. When Luo Xuan reveals a fragment of the Pangu Divine Axe, Pangu's remnant soul asks the clan to cease its wars and entrusts the Witch Clan to Luo Xuan's care 100 102 103.

The Ancestor Witches ultimately agree to support the Human Race rather than allow Di Jun to dominate the Primordial Era. Although they later attack the Heavenly Court to restrain its aggression, the Witch Clan eventually ceases initiating conflict with the Demon Race and fully backs the Human Race. By the later era, Witches and demons can cooperate against Fierce Beasts, and Luo Xuan entrusts the clan with protecting the Primordial World while the Saints depart for the Heavenly Human Realm 104 105 135 148 153.

Witch Clan members are commonly portrayed as physically imposing fighters, with burly frames, pronounced musculature, and a combat style centered on direct bodily force.

The Witch Clan values strength, directness, and loyalty to kin. Its members readily mock enemies, settle disputes through combat, and regard physical prowess as the clearest measure of worth. Their response to Luo Xuan changes only after he defeats Ao Gu in a physical contest and proves the practical value of his pills 17 36 37.

The clan is also characterized as simple-minded and easily manipulated because most Witches lack Primordial Spirits. This limitation contributes to Gonggong and Zhu Rong falling victim to the Soul-Bewitching Lamp, while Hou Tu recognizes the need for caution and preparation 37 100.

Once enraged, the Ancestor Witches are exceptionally difficult to dissuade. Their fierce attachment to one another drives them to seek immediate revenge when Gonggong is harmed, even at the risk of further damaging the Primordial Era 102.
