"We have safely left the Centaurus Galaxy, His Highness Beckett."
Inside the enormous warship, quite a few Chitauri soldiers lay sprawled in every direction, dizzy and disoriented. The forcibly activated spatial jump had given these soldiers, who had not even made it back to their positions, a firsthand taste of what it meant to be at the mercy of circumstances during that brief jump. Not even The Other had been spared.
"Where are we now, Woz?"
As the only man aboard the warship wearing a seat belt, Beckett did not even glance at his toppled subordinates. With a grim expression, he demanded that Woz give him precise coordinates.
"Woz is scanning the current planet's materials for analysis..."
"Woz is scanning the current planet's location..."
"Woz is determining the coordinates..."
Rows of data flashed across the azure screen at astonishing speed. But before Woz could reach a conclusion, the warship shook violently once more.
"Woz, what happened?"
Having switched the warship back to intelligent control, Beckett braced his tail against the floor to maintain his balance and asked coldly.
"We are under attack, His Highness Beckett."
Accompanied by Woz's utterly emotionless voice, the palm-sized screen before Beckett abruptly expanded into a giant display that stretched across his field of vision.
Soldiers clad in standard Asgardian armor instantly appeared before his eyes.
"Woz is matching the data..."
"His Highness Beckett, these are soldiers from Asgard." Having found the armor design in Thanos's database, Woz immediately identified the people before them.
"Asgard?"
Beckett frowned.
He had heard that name before, from his adoptive father Thanos and his dog-headed strategist, Ebony Maw. But his knowledge of Asgard was limited to its name alone.
Because their spheres of activity were so far apart, Thanos's forces and Odin's Asgard had never had any substantive contact.
How had a single spatial jump brought him here?
"Yes, His Highness Beckett. According to the database comparison, the woman standing at the very front of the formation is Hela, daughter of Odin, King of Asgard."
The giant display split in two, and Hela, dressed in a black skintight combat suit, immediately occupied part of Beckett's vision.
BOOM!!!
Just as Woz was explaining, the hull shook again. This time, Beckett could clearly see through the giant display that Hela seemed to be saying something. Then the soldiers behind her hurled all their weapons toward Beckett's fleet.
"Princess Hela, should we continue?"
On the plain, the Asgardian soldiers who had just completed a round of warning attacks turned questioning gazes toward the woman at their head.
"Pause for now, but stay alert. This fleet, which has yet to respond, may very well be reinforcements summoned by the Jotunheim people responsible for this area."
Having just fought a major battle against the Jotunheim people, the intentions of this suddenly appearing fleet were clearly worth considering. Especially now that she could see their cannons aimed at her forces.
"Defend." Under Hela's command, the densely packed Asgardian soldiers raised their shields.
The next second, the warship's artillery alarm sounded as expected. The repeated booms stirred up roaring shockwaves, and the woman's raven-black hair whipped wildly in the wind.
"So, you've finally responded?" Facing the artillery fire at close range without changing expression, Hela watched with interest as the hatch beneath the warship opened. Before this, her adjutant had called out to the fleet three times without receiving any response.
"Who are you? Jotunheim? Or Alfheim?"
Without needing Hela's instruction, the adjutant conscientiously lowered his shield and stepped forward, demanding sharply of the figure walking down from the warship.
The response he received was a spear thrown by The Other.
It was one of the weapons the Asgardian soldiers had thrown at the warship earlier, mass-produced by Princess Hela.
"Beckett, from Titan."
Vast energy gathered in Beckett's hand, and the contempt in his eyes put every Asgardian soldier on high alert. All the weapons the Asgardian soldiers had thrown at the warship were returned in full by Beckett!
"Using my weapons against my soldiers—is that all the Son of Thanos can do?"
Though Thanos, one of the universe's conquering powers, did not overlap with Asgard in territory, his reputation was still well known. Hela, Odin's only child, had seen all sorts of information about Thanos in her father's intelligence archive. Besides, Beckett's features were simply too conspicuous.
Silver armor and a red tail.
This was the young man her father Odin had once taken notice of.
With a wave of her hand, the weapons filling the sky vanished without a trace before Hela.
"Can I take that as a provocation?" Beckett's voice was cold enough to make even The Other shudder.
"Actually, you can." Hela ran her hands over her head, combing her raven-black hair into a fighting style. She opened her right hand, her slender fingers somehow already gripping a... hammer that had fallen from the sky.
"Hela, executioner of King of Asgard Odin, daughter of Odin."
Holding Mjolnir, Hela gradually walked to the forefront of the Asgardian formation. According to Odin's intelligence archive, Thanos and his subordinates were no easy opponents. And now Beckett, the Son of Thanos, had personally led an army onto Jotunheim territory. Hela did not need to think hard to understand the implications.
"This is not a place you can lay your hands on."
"Now, kneel. Perhaps then I will spare your lives."
Flexing the fingers of her left hand, Hela raised her chin. In terms of strength, she had never lost. As Asgard's strongest warrior aside from Odin, Hela possessed confidence and pride of her own.
Beckett answered her only with an icy stare.
"The one who should kneel is you."
In a flash, Beckett appeared beside Hela. He turned and lashed out with a sweeping kick aimed at her waist, only to strike a... hammer?
"Is that so? I don't think so." Mjolnir automatically protected its master. Turning around, Hela revealed a cruel smile. A specially made weapon appeared in her free left hand and stabbed straight toward Beckett's right eye!
"Meaningless struggle."
Beckett's voice remained calm, without the slightest emotional fluctuation. After shifting aside to evade the weapon Hela had swung at him, he bent his knees slightly, lowered his body, and drove a punch into Hela's abdomen!
Even with Mjolnir automatically protecting her, Hela still could not stop herself from staggering backward under the immense impact!
"Not bad strength, but you're still far from enough." The figure in black skintight clothing leaped from the smoke and dust. In an instant, countless weapons appeared behind Hela.
