In Asgard's name, let death's dirge resound!
Every weapon bore the Death Divinity Hela had awakened. Whether Asgard's soldiers or the weapon-wielding Chitauri, all trembled as they prostrated themselves beneath Hela's divine might of death. Even The Other, who had resolved to cling tightly to Beckett's coattails, could not control his body and shakily collapsed.
It was suppression born of a sheer difference in power levels. It was also the foundation of Odin's trust in Hela, allowing her to lead armies alone, and the key that would open the door for her to become one of the universe's strongest.
Every Asgardian knew what the awakening of divinity meant to one of their kind. King Odin's defeat of the leaders of Jotunheim's giant clans by himself was the finest proof of divinity's overwhelming power.
"Now, I can give you and your army one final chance, Son of Thanos." Standing atop a platform made of weapons, Hela's delicate figure, clad in a black bodysuit, appeared especially imposing beneath the dim sky.
The wind lifted her long hair.
Hela looked down at the stern-faced Beckett, her lips curving upward. "Now, kneel."
"Kneel at the feet of us Asgardians."
Death was one of the most terrifying powers in the universe. As one who had awakened Death Divinity, Hela's current majesty was far beyond comparison with those so-called gods who only knew a few cheap tricks.
Since childhood, Hela had been kept at her father Odin's side and personally trained by the man who had placed great hopes in her. From personal strength to battlefield command, she had grown under Odin's influence and ultimately became exactly what he had hoped to see.
The Death God of Asgard—ever since Hela awakened Death Divinity, her incomparably brilliant future had been destined. No one could stop her and her father from conquering the Nine Realms. Not Jotunheim, and not Thanos.
"First, you're far too confident in your own strength." With his right hand behind his back, Beckett raised his left and held up one finger, a cold curve appearing on his lips.
"Second, the power of divinity is ineffective against me."
Beckett raised his head toward the figure beneath the dim sky. His bright silver combat boots stepped across the blood-soaked plain as he walked, one step at a time, toward the Asgardian soldiers.
"There were once three people who called themselves Gods of Light and said they would purify me. Seven more called themselves Gods of Darkness and wanted to kill me. Then there were two who called themselves the God of Fire and the God of Water, claiming they would make me wish I were dead. In the end, they all died."
"The divinity they awakened did not allow them to survive my hands. Do you think you'll be the exception?"
Asgardians were not the only race in the universe capable of awakening divinity. During the three years Beckett had spent carrying out decapitation missions, he had seen many civilizations and destroyed many as well. Some guardians of those civilizations had awakened so-called divinity, but what became of them? They had still fallen beneath Beckett's bright silver combat boots.
He had even seen his adoptive father, Thanos, cut down seven possessors of divinity with a single slash.
"Divinity is ultimately just divinity. Possessing it merely means having one more power to make use of. It does not make one a supreme god above the laws of the universe."
The smile on Beckett's face gradually turned wild. His frigid killing intent reached its peak when he stood only a thousand meters from the Asgardian soldiers.
Surging power roared through every cell in Beckett's body. As his figure flickered, his crimson tail pierced through the chests of three Asgardian soldiers in rapid succession!
Heavy armor and shields could not halt Beckett's slaughter. The battle-hardened Asgardian soldiers discovered in horror that the weapons in their hands could not pierce Beckett's silver armor at all!
"You don't seem to care much about your subordinates."
Having finished his first round of slaughter, Beckett stopped and looked up at Hela in the sky. Her calm truly surprised him.
He had thought Hela would show at least a little anger, but she had actually acted as though she had seen nothing. The weapons behind her, tainted with Death Divinity, swept toward the Chitauri army behind Beckett like an overwhelming tide.
"Neither do you." Hela was noncommittal as she toyed with her slender fingers. The weapons behind her, tainted with Death Divinity, continued their indiscriminate assault on the Chitauri army behind Beckett.
The Chitauri army, fearless of death yet forced to submit beneath the pressure of Death Divinity, suffered the precise strike of the weapon sea in an instant. Hela's objective was clear: she intended to first eliminate the army behind Beckett.
"That damn crazy woman!"
The Other, clutching his scepter, scurried about with his head in his hands amid the "rain of flowers," his gaze toward Hela filled with resentment whenever he found a moment to look.
"For Asgard's Glory!"
The remaining Asgardian soldiers, who had survived the battle against the giant clans' garrison stationed here, exchanged glances and saw the will to die in each other's eyes.
They did not fear death. They only feared dying without value.
Destroyer Overlord Thanos's name carried some renown throughout the universe. Naturally, they were unwilling to see Thanos's army lay claim to land that Asgard had set its sights on.
To trade their lives for the destruction of an entire legion under Thanos's command, they believed it was worth it.
Only a throne forged by blood and fire could help Asgard ascend to the pinnacle of the Nine Realms. Under Odin's speeches, this belief had long been etched into the hearts of every Asgardian warrior.
They were willing to use their flesh and blood to pave Asgard's path to supremacy!
The remaining hundred-odd soldiers completely abandoned defense, brandishing their blades as they charged at Beckett in his silver armor. Their lofty faith supported them as they exhausted every last ounce of strength. Even when comrades beside them fell before reaching Beckett, they still refused to give up.
"For Asgard!"
They shouted and roared as countless weapons struck Beckett's silver armor, producing weak clanging sounds. Scratch after scratch appeared across the armor Thanos had personally forged for his beloved son Beckett, yet it was never breached.
"Overestimating yourselves."
Surging power gathered in Beckett's right hand. His cold gaze swept over the Asgardian soldiers who still relentlessly attacked him. Beckett raised his right hand, then slammed it fiercely into the ground!
BOOM!!!!!
Vast energy erupted with a thunderous blast, and the explosive shockwave left no survivors within a one-kilometer radius centered on Beckett!
Meanwhile, the Chitauri legion Beckett had left unattended had suffered more than half its numbers dead or wounded.
By herself, Hela had slaughtered more than half the Chitauri soldiers in only a few short minutes. Her performance truly lived up to the name of Death God.
However—
"My father once said,"
"When people are killed, they die. Now, it's your turn."
A defiant smile crept across Beckett's lips, and the tail behind him swayed untamedly with excitement.
Only the strong could interest Beckett.
Beckett, standing upon the earth, raised his head. Hela, standing proudly in the sky, lowered hers.
As their gazes met, sparks were ready to fly!
The proposal passed! (><)
