Background / History
Nuwa created the Human Race under Heavenly Dao guidance and attained Sainthood through merit, becoming their Holy Mother. She initially regarded the Human Race mainly as a source of incense offerings and Human Dao destiny rather than personally intervening in their affairs. 2 23 53
Her first encounter with Chen Sheng radically changed her perspective. After destroying his cave dwelling, Nuwa identifies herself as a Saint and Mother of the Human Race, but Chen Sheng dismisses her claim and banishes her into the River of Time. Her Mountain and River Diagram and Red Embroidered Ball both fail to overcome the temporal power, forcing her to apologize before she is released. 5 9 10 11
Through Chen Sheng, Nuwa learns that the Heavenly Dao has suppressed the Earthly Dao and Human Dao, manipulating major calamities to preserve its own dominance. She realizes that her Primordial Violet Qi-made Sainthood bound her to the Heavenly Dao instead of allowing her to preside over the Human Dao as its equal. 119 120
When the Human Race's faith strengthens her resolve, Nuwa openly swears to protect them and confronts Hongjun. She eventually tears the Primordial Violet Qi from herself, renouncing her original Saint position despite the resulting injuries and Hongjun's retaliation. 124 127
Nuwa later finds an independent path to Sainthood through World Proving. Inspired by observing the Primordial Era, she creates a world from her three corpses—forming its mountains and rivers, celestial bodies, and living beings—then merges her true form with it as its consciousness. This restores her Saint position without returning her to Heavenly Dao control. 166
Appearance
Nuwa is portrayed as an otherworldly, noble beauty whose presence combines elegance with overwhelming divine authority. In formal appearances, she commonly wears white-and-gold robes and a phoenix coronet. 2 190 501
- Smooth, pale skin and a peerless, refined appearance. 2
- Eyes compared to containing mountains and rivers; later depictions describe them as cold, sharp, and galaxy-like. 2 582
- Long black hair, often likened to a waterfall. 501
- Usually wears a golden phoenix robe or white robe embroidered with gold, accompanied by a phoenix crown. 501 693
- Her true form is colossal, human-headed and snake-bodied. 142
- Her World Proving power can manifest a vision of all beings behind her, including beasts, Daoists, elders, and children. 170
Personality
Nuwa is proud, sharp-tongued, and unwilling to submit to authority she considers unjust. Her initial anger at Chen Sheng's disrespect gives way to caution and curiosity once she witnesses power beyond her understanding. 5 6
Her defining trait is protectiveness toward the Human Race. Although she initially neglected them, their faith and suffering make her increasingly conscious of her duty as their creator. She repeatedly places herself between the Human Race and Heavenly Punishment, demon armies, or hostile Saints. 124 307 655 811
She can be compassionate and restorative, remaking Kuafu and reviving damaged life in Witch Clan territory. However, she is also capable of ruthless retaliation when she believes others have harmed those under her protection. 190 697
Nuwa is perceptive but not infallible. She sees through many of Hongjun's schemes and Demon Clan manipulations, yet she can be misled by Di Jun or Kunpeng's claims and acts decisively before verifying them. 504 612 697
