Background / History
Long before Kiana's arrival, Izumo fought the Eight Million Gods of Takama-ga-hara. Humanity slew Tsumugari no Kami and forged the first true World-Protecting Imperial Blade, then used the sacrifice of the Pioneers to seal the remaining eleven powerful gods for roughly a thousand years 3 6.
The returning gods forced Izumo back into war. Its defenders relied on Imperial Blades and Demon Blades, but ordinary wielders suffered severe corrosion unless their compatibility with an Edict Blade exceeded ninety percent 14. As the conflict escalated, Honkai energy began corrupting Oni Gods and turning the world itself into a growing source of Honkai phenomena 33 58.
The White-Haired Oni eventually revealed that Takama-ga-hara was the former Izumo. The two worlds were bound to a recurring cycle of destruction, with the Void as the underlying threat rather than the Oni Gods alone 63.
Appearance
Izumo is a planet whose ordinary atmosphere is described as visually oppressive, with a dim palette that its residents consider normal after thousands of years 2.
- During its collapse, disasters, Honkai energy, and the Void's influence left much of the world uninhabitable 63 66.
- After Kiana's initial transformation, Izumo developed consciousness and actively repelled attempted visitors 80.
- Following the final process, its gloom and Honkai energy vanished, and outside observers witnessed its rapid recovery 182.
Abilities & Properties
Planetary Consciousness
Izumo possesses a consciousness capable of communicating with Kiana in a mental world.
- It identifies itself as being beneath Kiana's feet, implying that the mental world's ground is its body 82.
- It addresses Kiana as “Master” 82.
- It can assume a human-like appearance based on Kiana's imagination within that mental space 82.
Honkai Assimilation
Izumo's compatibility with Honkai allows its energy concentration to rise alongside Kiana's development.
- At system binding, its compatibility is measured at 87.9% 8.
- Increasing concentration erodes existing powers and can mutate Oni Gods into Honkai-corrupted threats 33 58.
- Kiana's attempt to spread Honkai across the planet was intended to expel the Void's influence and rewrite Izumo's rules, but initially became deadlocked against the Void's assimilation 137.
Planetary Repulsion
After assimilation, Izumo becomes resistant to outside entry.
- It repels visitors with an invisible force, making a safe landing difficult 80.
- Raiden Mei remains near the planet as its guardian during this period 80.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Honkai Binding
Kiana arrives in Izumo, learns of its war against the Oni Gods, and activates a system that binds to the world. The system identifies Kiana with the Honkai faction and warns that her growth will raise Izumo's Honkai Energy Concentration 3 8.
Escalation of the Honkai Crisis
The Honkai increasingly affects Izumo's Oni Gods, including Takemikazuchi and Amatsuyu. Although Kiana and her allies defeat the Oni Gods, the White-Haired Oni reveals that their victory cannot resolve the deeper threat posed by the Void and Izumo's cyclical fate 58 59 63.
Assimilation and Collapse
Kiana chooses to gamble on Honkai as a means to save Izumo from the Void, despite warning that losing control as a Herrscher could lead her to kill everyone before the Void does 64. As the concentration reaches its maximum, Finality descends and Izumo becomes completely assimilated; Kiana loses control of her overwhelming power 66.
Living Izumo
Following the collapse, Izumo manifests consciousness and prevents outsiders from approaching. Kiana later recognizes that her original plan had stalled because the Void had already assimilated much of the world, leaving its condition unresolved 80 137.
Final Recovery
Upon Kiana and Yomi's later return, Izumo's high Honkai concentration accelerates Kiana's Herrscher progression 179. Its concentration and Finality Process ultimately reach 100%; Kiana absorbs the remaining energy, falls into slumber, and Izumo's gloom and Honkai energy disappear as the planet recovers 182.
Relationships
- Kiana — Izumo binds to Kiana's system; its concentration rises with her growth, and its consciousness addresses her as “Master” 8 82.
- Raiden Mei / Yomi — A native of Izumo who remains near and guards the planet after it develops consciousness; she later watches over the unconscious Kiana in the restored shrine 80 182.
- Takama-ga-hara — The former Izumo, connected to the current world through an ongoing cycle of destruction 63.
- The Void — The force underlying Izumo's repeating catastrophe; its assimilation clashes with Kiana's spread of Honkai energy 59 137.
