Background / History
Immortal Herbs initially appeared as rare Qi-bearing plants, inconspicuous to ordinary mortals but sought by cultivators and researchers. Their Qi could be absorbed directly, while large concentrations of Herbs created areas suitable for cultivation. 22 39
By the time of Stone Light Emperor Zhizheng’s ocean expedition, all one thousand known Immortal Herbs had accumulated beneath the sea. The Undersea Kingdom deliberately left them uneaten: consuming one caused it to regrow randomly elsewhere, potentially returning it to human territory. 27 Zhizheng’s forces defeated the Ocean Lord and seized the Herbs; 608 were subsequently planted in the City of a Hundred Stones’ Cloud and Mist Qi Sea, creating a permanent cultivation center for humanity. 28
The Herbs witnessed Zhizheng’s final meeting with Zhu Zhengwei. Upon the emperor’s death, all one thousand entered a shared frequency and sang a dirge that spread across the world, becoming an omen remembered by humans as the Immortal Herbs seeing off a sage. 37
As the Dream World expanded, more player-linked Immortal Herbs appeared. Zhu Zhengwei introduced plant cultivation levels and planned an Immortal Grass Forest, allowing the Herbs to develop beyond stationary scenery and compete for Form Transformation. 46 47 Their role became increasingly central to cultivation, racial modification, and the production of Longevity Potions. 54 55 65
Later generations treated the Herbs as both essential resources and dangerous strategic assets. They were confined, cultivated, harvested, fought over, and used as the foundation of empires. By the Ancestor Witch Era, large populations had transformed into mobile Immortal Divine Medicines and formed Forbidden Zones under Bena’s leadership. 165 238 The Immortal Grass Realm was eventually established as a separate dungeon-like world where they cultivate immortal beasts and build underground palaces. 253
Appearance
Immortal Herbs generally resemble blades or clumps of grass rooted in the ground. They emit visible Qi, often described as multicolored twilight glow, mist, or brilliant threads resembling ribbons in the wind. 34 37
- Emit pure Spiritual Qi and may be sensed by cultivators. 39 54
- Can bloom with five-colored radiance during large-scale resonance. 34 37
- Higher-level individuals may take the form of mobile Immortal Divine Medicines, capable of flight, burrowing, or movement across land. 144 238
- Their appearances may vary after transformation, including forms such as Jade Nectar Immortal Pepper, Thousand Flavors Valley, and Immortal Apple Bodhi. 238
Personality
The Immortal Herbs do not possess a single unified personality. Player-linked Herbs often react to historical events as spectators in a “wallpaper game,” enthusiastically analyzing scenes, discussing lore, and treating major events as cinematic storytelling. 33 34 80
They can also show genuine attachment to the world they observe. During Zhizheng’s death, the Herbs collectively mourned him and sang to preserve proof that they had witnessed his era. 37
Many later Immortal Grass Players become intensely interested in farming, mining, crafting, and Form Transformation. Their willingness to perform repetitive labor surprises Empress Heli, who initially mistakes their demands for more work as abnormal behavior. 164 165
Abilities & Skills
Spiritual Qi Emission
Immortal Herbs are natural sources of Spiritual Qi and are the foundation of numerous cultivation systems.
- Dense collections can create cultivation sites such as the Cloud and Mist Qi Sea. 28 39
- Their Qi allows mortals to begin cultivating without directly consuming a Herb. 39
- Their sap and Qi are used in life-modification procedures and the creation of plant-mutant races. 54 55
- Their quantity directly affects a civilization’s ability to sustain cultivators. 39 106
Longevity Resource
Immortal Herbs are a principal ingredient in life-extending medicines.
- A Longevity Potion requires at least 300 Immortal Herbs. 65 70
- Three hundred Herbs can extend a lifespan by roughly one or two centuries, while greater quantities offer greater efficiency. 70
- Their use in Longevity Potions is considered destabilizing because consumed Herbs regrow randomly across the world. 65 76
- Competition for Herbs has repeatedly caused wars, raids, and political upheaval. 69 70 131
Resonance and World-Scale Hymns
The Herbs can synchronize on a shared frequency and produce effects perceptible across vast distances.
- All one thousand Herbs resonated during Stone Light Emperor Zhizheng’s death. 37
- Their hymn spread through cities, deserts, and the ocean, leading people across the realm to mourn the emperor. 37
- Their synchronized Qi caused the world itself to tremble. 37
Regrowth and Self-Preservation
Immortal Herbs do not remain permanently in one location after being consumed.
- When eaten, they randomly regrow elsewhere in the world. 27
- This regrowth mechanic allowed the Undersea Kingdom to concentrate all known Herbs on the ocean floor by refusing to consume them. 27
- When scattered during conflict, some Herbs formed protective Qi barriers around the Elves carrying them. 70
Cultivation and Form Transformation
Higher-level Immortal Herbs can cultivate, transform, and gain mobility.
- Zhu Zhengwei established cultivation levels including Ten-Year, Hundred-Year, and Thousand-Year Immortal Grass. 46
- Form Transformation is possible but requires sufficient cultivation and survival against cultivators seeking to seize them. 46
- Seventh Order Immortal Grass can fly, survive without soil, and sustain itself through ambient moisture, sunlight, and nutrients. 144
- Immortal Divine Medicines may travel through the sky, underground, or across the land. 238
Mining and Production
In later worlds, Immortal Herbs serve as living production units.
- They provide Qi in exchange for limited Form Transformation time. 165
- Their labor supports weapon forging, pill refinement, and logistical supply for expeditions. 165
- In the Immortal Grass Realm, they cultivate Qi-consuming immortal beasts and construct underground palaces. 253
Limitations
- Most Immortal Herbs are immobile while rooted and are vulnerable to being picked, consumed, imprisoned, or harvested. 46 164
- Their rarity makes them targets for kingdoms, Strong Practitioners, and researchers. 57 65 144
- Player-linked Herbs suffer a severe death penalty: death resets their level to zero, and higher-level recovery becomes increasingly costly. 146
- Their mobility and transformation privileges may be restricted by task quotas or designated activity zones. 165
