History

Founding and name

Eluin was formerly known as Valhalla, a Mountain Folk name meaning “the place where heroes sleep.” Its current name derives from Matataniya, the language of the first Spellweavers, in which it means “sacred.” 1062

Its origins are tied to Cruz. Vante, head of the first generation of Flame Dependent Knights, departed for the land later called Eluin, while Former Lord Eck led a people resisting the Cruzian royal family into the Black Forest and established an independent kingdom there. Eck also carried away a fragment of the Sacred Sword Odephys. 1062 1063

Decline and civil war

The kingdom’s central authority weakened after the end of the Xifah Dynasty and the loss of the Lionheart Sword. Regional powers increasingly acted independently, and Grand Duke Anlek’s alteration of troop-rotation policy reduced national unity to a formality. 631

Eluin suffered a crushing early defeat in the First Black Rose War, though the conflict also began its path toward revival. 1 Later, Grand Duke Anlek’s declaration of support for Hamel and the resulting regional defections formally plunged the kingdom into civil war. 188

Rebirth

The return of Ambersell Port to Eluin ended its autonomous status and restored the ancient trade port to the kingdom. 633

Following the wider wars and internal upheavals, Haruze was crowned king. Griffine stepped down as regent, and Eluin entered a new era of centralized royal power, ending its feudal structure. 1439

Territory and hidden legacy

• Eluin was founded in the Black Forest after its people broke from Cruzian rule. 1063
• Ambersell became Eluin’s reclaimed trade port after centuries outside its direct control. 633
• The kingdom contains an unusual concentration of ancient sites and relics, including Saint’s Relics, underground ruins, the Azure Spear beneath Ambersell, Valhalla, the Time’s Standard beneath Tonigell, and Echisis’s former sleeping place in the Ring of Trade Winds. 1062

Governance

• Eluin’s founding covenant held that nobles and common people would jointly decide the kingdom’s fate. 526
• In practice, the kingdom became dominated by self-serving noble factions, whose rivalries contributed to its collapse into civil war. 361 631
• Brando rejected a proposal to restore stability simply through Antitina’s succession, arguing that it would preserve the corrupt aristocratic system. He instead proposed a Three-King Council of Griffine, Leven, and Antitina alongside a re-elected noble council. 1264
• The eventual coronation of Haruze marked the restoration of royal central authority and the end of feudalism in Eluin. 1439

Military and national symbols

White Lion Legion

• The White Lion Legion is Eluin’s historic elite force, renowned for its courage, discipline, and connection to Former Lord Eck. 549
• Its soldiers regard the Lionheart Sword as central to reclaiming the White Lion’s former purpose and value. 619
• Freya was recognized by the Lionheart Sword as Eluin’s true Valkyrie, later becoming a celebrated commander of Eluin’s armies. 551 820
• By the final war, Freya had become a Sword Saint and led the White Lion Knights against the Crystal Cluster Army. 1454

Lionheart Sword

• The true Lionheart Sword was lost; Eluin’s royalty had long used only a replica. The original is said to hold power over the kingdom’s rise and fall. 80

Rebuilding the army
