Background and history
Sargeras was once the Pantheon's foremost warrior, fighting beside his Titan kin to impose order on worlds and oppose the Void Lords. Convinced that the Pantheon's methods could not prevent World Souls from becoming Void-corrupted, he rejected his kin's approach, left the Pantheon, released the Nathrezim, and formed the Burning Legion. His solution was absolute: burn the universe clean so the Void Lords would have nothing left to corrupt. 1
At the birth of Sarodar, Sargeras's Fel assault and the Void Lords' corruption instead produced an unprecedented World Soul able to wield Fel and Void without losing itself. Sargeras recognized Sarodar as a potentially devastating enemy of the Void Lords. 1 2 During the War of the Ancients, he attempted to descend through the Well of Eternity's Fel portal; Brox Saurfang's stand on Argus delayed the Legion, and the portal's collapse forced Sargeras back. 29 30 108
Sargeras later descended on Northrend with a demon legion but was defeated by Aegwynn. Although his body was sealed in the Tomb of Sargeras, he left a subconscious influence on her. 98 He subsequently manifested through Medivh at Karazhan, where Sarodar confronted him directly. Their battle ended with Sargeras cast into the Endless Abyss, while his final curse severely damaged Sarodar and burned away much of Medivh's life force. 121 122
Facing an approaching Void Lord, Sarodar and Kil'jaeden helped tear Sargeras out of the Endless Abyss. Sargeras accepted a temporary alliance against the Void, then offered Sarodar the Burning Legion, Azeroth, and access to demonic technology in exchange for joining his universal-burning crusade. Sarodar refused, but the two agreed to a ten-year truce in which Sarodar would prove that mortal races and conquest could defeat the Void Lords without annihilating the universe. 520 522 523
After his return, Sargeras fought a Void Lord on the front line beside Sarodar, while maintaining his contempt for most mortal forces. 527 530 Their relationship remained unstable: he accepted Sarodar's assistance and even toured Azeroth using his former divine body as a temporary avatar, yet continued to threaten Azeroth and reject Sarodar's vision of a New Pantheon. 955 956 959 By the confrontation over the New Pantheon, he challenged Sarodar to demonstrate that this new order would not become another rigid Pantheon. 988 989
Appearance
Sargeras's original Titan form is a colossal giant wreathed in divine-grade Fel flames, with burning Fel eyes and demonic horns. After his release from the Endless Abyss, he commonly uses a compact demon-like avatar while retaining his Titan aura and weapon. 1 522
- Original form — Sky-piercing Titan body, Fel-flame eyes, curved horns, and overwhelming Fel divine power. 1 527
- Post-abyss avatar — Roughly two meters tall, bare-chested, with grey-blue steel-like skin and long forward-curving horns. 522
- Fel corruption — His body and power are fully assimilated by Fel, but he retains his self-will, reason, and traces of his former Titan divinity. 644 746
Personality
Sargeras is driven by a single conviction: the Void Lords must be eradicated, regardless of the cost. He considers universal destruction a necessary sacrifice for a pure rebirth free from Void corruption, and he accepts the loss of worlds, mortals, and even Titan kin as the price of that outcome. 1 746
Fel corruption has made him violent, cruel, and openly contemptuous of mortals, whom he generally regards as insignificant tools or “ants.” Nevertheless, he retains Titan wisdom and can recognize exceptional potential in others, particularly Sarodar. 522 He respects strength, decisiveness, and those willing to pursue victory without sentimentality. 522 633
Despite presenting himself as solitary and absolute, Sargeras shows hesitation around Sarodar—the one Titan he feels understands his reasoning—and displays unusual vulnerability in his interactions with Elena. Her refusal to fear or flatter him repeatedly forces him to reconsider his actions and the feelings of those around him. 673 759 922 986

Titan combat prowess
Before his fall, Sargeras was the Pantheon's greatest warrior; even after corruption and the loss of his full divine body, he remains a formidable close-range combatant. 1 522
- Fights directly with Dark Boiling One, using Fel energy to replace its missing half in battle. 527
- Engaged Sarodar in a destructive hand-to-hand Titan battle at Karazhan. 122
- Took the frontal battlefield against a Void Lord's essence avatar and cut through its Void barrier. 527

Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Dark Boiling One — Sargeras's half of a shattered Titan creation greatsword. The other half, Taeshalach / Flame Ripper, remained with his former lieutenant Argus. In combat, Fel energy forms the missing portion of Sargeras's blade. 2 522 527
- Sealed divine body avatar — His former divine body was bound within the Tomb of Sargeras; Sarodar later allowed him to use it as a temporary avatar in Azeroth. 953 955
Relationships
- Sarodar — Unborn Titan kin, rival, and occasional ally. Sargeras initially sought Sarodar's destruction, later recognized his extraordinary potential, and accepted a temporary alliance against the Void Lords; their incompatible visions for the universe remain unresolved. 2 520 523 989
- Kil'jaeden — Senior Legion subordinate and the Deceiver entrusted with directing the Burning Legion during Sargeras's absence. Kil'jaeden fears and obeys him, while Sargeras pressures him to prove the Legion's worth. 520 623
- Argus — Former lieutenant and holder of the other half of Sargeras's shattered sword. Their later encounters are marked by open hostility and Argus's desire for revenge. 2 958 959
- Azeroth — A World Soul whose exceptional potential fascinates Sargeras. He proposed devouring her for power, while Sarodar made her survival non-negotiable. 523
- Illidan Stormrage — Former recipient of Sargeras's Fel gift and first Demon Hunter. Illidan was tasked with securing the Dragon Soul but ultimately betrayed him; Sargeras continues to regard him with hostility. 22 642
- Medivh — Served as a manifestation of Sargeras at Karazhan. Sargeras's influence and possession made Medivh a central vessel in his attempt to act on Azeroth. 101 121
- Elena — A human woman from Bavaria who rejects his offer to join the Burning Legion. Her calm defiance and willingness to criticize him expose a rare vulnerable side of Sargeras. 759 922 986
