Background

Ling Xiao rose to become an Immortal Emperor and ruled the Immortal Realm for nine great epochs. During that era, he accumulated 361 origin Dao marks, controlled roughly one-tenth of the Great Daos, and established standards whose Dao resonance continued to influence the Myriad Worlds long after his reign ended 118 122 339.

He possessed three Chaos Supreme Treasures: the Bronze Coffin, the Primal Chaos Pattern Bell, and the Primal Creation Plate. He sacrificed or exploited these advantages ruthlessly; most notably, he betrayed the Primal Creation Plate's artifact spirit, nearly extinguishing its true spirit and taking possession of its body and power 126 333.

Wuji ultimately overthrew Ling Xiao by extracting one hundred of his origin Dao marks. Unable to stabilize his Immortal Emperor position, Ling Xiao fled with the Epoch Treasury and became a fugitive across the River of Time 118 208.

Appearance

Ling Xiao's true body has not received a stable physical description. While hiding in an ancient stretch of spacetime, he assumed the identity of an elderly mountain woodcutter so thoroughly that even Immortal Court investigations found no anomaly 127.

  • Woodcutter disguise — faded linen jacket, straw sandals, rough bronze skin, a crescent scar on his right cheek, missing teeth, and yellowed gums 127.
  • Dharma Form — often manifests as an azure or translucent will projection; his attacks can form an ancient golden bell or a star-bright celestial wheel 128 292.
  • Bronze coffin — frequently remains inside or travels through time within his colossal bronze coffin 120 122.

Personality

Ling Xiao is calculating, survival-driven, and exceptionally cautious when his position is weak. He prefers indirect schemes, bait, scapegoats, remote will imprints, and rival factions fighting one another over direct confrontation. When forced into a losing situation, he is willing to abandon resources, subordinates, or territory to preserve his core Dao foundation 152 333 341.

His caution does not make him trustworthy. He betrayed Little Golden Dragon despite their long partnership, branded the Peak Ranking's top ten members with his will, and selected Fang Fan as a system host specifically because the youth was convenient to exploit without attracting attention 126 151 333.

Despite his strategic ability, Ling Xiao is repeatedly undermined by Chen Yi, Wuji, and unpredictable variables. His frustration often surfaces when his carefully arranged plans collapse or when others interfere with his treasury and Primal Creation Plate 120 161 341.

Abilities & Skills

Immortal Emperor Legacy

Ling Xiao retains the foundation and lingering authority of a former Immortal Emperor.

  • Ruled the Immortal Realm for nine great epochs and accumulated vast Epoch Dao resonance 118 339.
  • Controlled 361 origin Dao marks at his peak; even after severe losses, he retains 224 122.
  • His remaining Dao resonance can manifest a Dharma Form capable of directly clashing with Wuji's Immortal Emperor projection 292.
  • His former authority remains potent enough that Wuji can borrow Ling Xiao's law, while Little Golden Dragon can interfere with that borrowed power through the Primal Creation Plate 290.

Origin Dao Mark Manipulation

Origin Dao marks are the foundation of Ling Xiao's former Immortal Emperor status.

  • Burns marks to escape Wuji's pursuit through time and space 122.
  • Has borrowed Wuji's law to suppress threats and entangle Wuji during a pursuit 122.
  • Lost one hundred marks to Wuji's usurpation, then expended further marks while fleeing 122 208.
  • Cannot freely spend this foundation without weakening his already unstable position.

Will Imprints and Primordial Creation Dao

Ling Xiao uses the Primal Creation Plate and its Dao to influence others remotely.

  • Branded the top ten Peak Ranking members with his will, allowing him to command them under normal circumstances 151.
  • Can revive dormant will imprints and manifest them as Dharma Forms within the Primal Creation Plate 127.
  • Receives information across time through will imprints left in the future 127.
  • Can divide his incomplete natal imprint, implanting part into Little Golden Dragon and scattering the rest among exiled group members 401.
  • His control is compromised by Little Golden Dragon, the Primal Creation Plate's original artifact spirit and “first owner” of the Primordial Creation Dao 151.

Temporal Concealment

Ling Xiao can hide within the River of Time through exceptionally advanced causality-based methods.

  • Merges into historical cause and effect to evade pursuit and return to earlier eras 211.
  • Concealed himself as a mortal woodcutter in ancient spacetime until Wuji's investigators shifted their attention elsewhere 127.
  • His true body is currently trapped in the River of Time, limiting him to incomplete imprints and remote interference in the present 401.
  • Even Ling Xiao avoids approaching too closely to his own timeline, where discovery could leave him without escape 342.

Dharma Form Techniques

His will projections retain formidable combat mechanisms.

  • Ancient golden bell — emits tangible sound-wave attacks that can split into particles and bypass direct weapon strikes 128.
  • Celestial wheel — condenses from the bell's sound waves into starlike radiance that crushes and strips away an opponent's territory 128.
  • Ling Xiao Dharma Form — can be summoned through lingering Dao resonance; while diminished, it remains able to breach defenses that Dao Ancestor-grade treasures cannot break 292.
  • Limitation: his Great Remnant imprint cannot be readily reinforced while Wuji is watching, and its available strength is far below his former peak 128.

System Manipulation

Ling Xiao operates behind the scenes through systems, hosts, and hidden arrangements.

  • Personally orchestrated the Supreme Sign-in System and selected its host as a scapegoat 333.
  • Chose Fang Fan because the Tianshu Star Domain's ties to Chen Yi and Chaos Supreme Treasures made ordinary hosts too risky 333.
  • Used an Eternal Life Coffin containing fragments of the Primal Chaos Pattern Bell as bait to draw Wuji's attention 333.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Bronze Giant Coffin / Eternal Bronze Giant Coffin — Ling Xiao's primary refuge and means of escape through time; it can carry burning origin Dao marks to break Wuji's restraints 122 333.
  • Primal Creation Plate — his former Dao-proving treasure and the operating vessel of the chat group. It was split into fragments, with control contested by Ling Xiao, Chen Yi, and Little Golden Dragon 128 333.
  • Epoch Treasury — immense resource reserve accumulated during nine epochs of rule; its contents are a major target of Chen Yi and a central reason for Ling Xiao's continued evasions 118 334.
  • Primal Chaos Pattern Bell fragments — remnants of one of Ling Xiao's former Chaos Supreme Treasures, used as bait within an Eternal Life Coffin 333.
  • Ancient golden bell Dharma Form — a manifested weapon-form used by his will imprint in combat 128.

Relationships

  • Wuji Immortal Emperor — successor and irreconcilable enemy. Wuji overthrew Ling Xiao, seized one hundred of his origin Dao marks, and continues to pursue him through the River of Time 122 208.
  • Chen Yi — rival variable who contests Ling Xiao's Primal Creation Plate, targets the Epoch Treasury, and repeatedly disrupts his plans. Ling Xiao considers Chen Yi too unpredictable to confront directly 128 341 334.
  • Little Golden Dragon / Zhao Huazhen — former companion and artifact spirit of the Primal Creation Plate. Ling Xiao betrayed it and nearly erased its true spirit; it later sided with Chen Yi and became uniquely capable of damaging Ling Xiao's legacy 126 348.
  • Fang Fan — selected by Ling Xiao as the host of a system-based scheme, partly because Fang Fan's circumstances made him less likely to draw immediate scrutiny 333.
  • Peak Ranking top ten — Ling Xiao branded all ten with will imprints intended to ensure their obedience 151.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Awakening and Flight

Ling Xiao awakens from a bronze coffin in unknown spacetime, immediately senses an unknown threat, and activates the Primordial Creation Grand Array to investigate. His emergence makes Chen Yi abandon the Illusionary Dream Secret Realm and conceal his activity 117.

Wuji detects Ling Xiao's aura and begins hunting him. Ling Xiao hides in his coffin, attempts to identify the variable threatening his interests, and remains focused on protecting the treasury he carried away after his overthrow 118 120.

Conflict over the Primal Creation Plate

While Ling Xiao is pursued by Wuji, Chen Yi and Little Golden Dragon exploit the weakened control of his will imprints. Ling Xiao returns through a dormant imprint to confront them, offers Little Golden Dragon territory in apparent compensation, and attempts to drive Chen Yi from the Plate 127 128.

The struggle steadily weakens his position: Ling Xiao is reduced to 34% control of the Plate, while Chen Yi holds 21% and seeks the sealed 30% share 128.

Woodcutter Disguise and Counter-Schemes

Ling Xiao hides in ancient history as a mortal woodcutter, even living out a full mortal lifespan before reviving twenty years after his apparent death. He attempts to use Chen Yi as a weapon against Wuji, but Chen Yi detects the danger and escapes with chat groups and secret realms, leaving Ling Xiao without the variable he intended to exploit 127 161.

He later chooses to let Chen Yi, Little Golden Dragon, and Wuji exhaust one another while he remains hidden and waits for a decisive opportunity 152.

Fang Fan System Plot

After Fang Fan gains the Myriad Phenomena Xuanji Ring, Ling Xiao recognizes that the Chaos Supreme Treasure effectively strengthens Chen Yi. He attempts to expose Fang Fan's origins to Wuji, then later creates a system host in the Tianshu Star Domain to manipulate both sides from behind the scenes 302 333.

Attempted Return

Ling Xiao remotely manipulates ancient Epoch Dao resonance and seeks to use a collision between Chen Yi and Limitless to restore himself 379. He later parasitizes Little Golden Dragon with part of his incomplete natal imprint, planning to stabilize his position, protect Chen Yi temporarily, ignite exiled group members at the right moment, and return from ancient history amid the resulting conflict 401.
