Background / History
Destiny first takes notice of Cheng Shi after he denounces Destiny during a trial. It asserts the right to revoke Cheng Shi’s qualification because he believes in—and blasphemes—Destiny, though Cheng Shi is ultimately claimed by another god at the time 14. Cheng Shi’s rejection of Destiny continues after choosing the Mask and Dice of Destiny at the origin of his Life Path, an act that defies Destiny’s will 36 140.
After Cheng Shi breaks his oath with Deception, Destiny accepts him as a believer. Pleased by Cheng Shi’s understanding of the predetermined, Destiny teaches him that even predetermined outcomes can change, and that Void—not Existence—transcends all 195 196. Cheng Shi later discovers that his former Deception talent, Aspects of All Beings, was in fact part of a Destiny Oathbreaker talent system prepared for him from the beginning 198.
Destiny repeatedly protects Cheng Shi’s interests in the divine realm. It contests Chaos over threats to its protected followers, makes a deal with Death to save Cheng Shi’s life, and receives the power of Filth Fall in that exchange 254 323. Following Prosperity’s fall, Destiny recruits Hong Lin as its emissary and grants her Destiny’s Dice, allowing her to continue Prosperity’s path within Destiny’s predestination 330.
Its relationship with Cheng Shi becomes increasingly complicated as Cheng Shi seeks information about other gods and the Primal. Destiny warns him against Filth Fall, permits no easy answers about eras, and later reveals that Cheng Shi was not personally chosen by it, but was “Predetermined” by the Primal 408 409 879 880.
During Cheng Shi’s encounter with Time, Destiny’s power intervenes and Cheng Shi’s faith becomes a Destiny–Time fusion. The resulting Time talents directly complement Destiny’s gambling-based Fate Weaver abilities 732 733. Later, Destiny begins granting second faiths widely, accepting many fusion prayers while refusing Annihilation believers; Cheng Shi interprets this as an effort to rapidly expand its faith pool 1126.
Appearance
Destiny commonly manifests in the Void as a pair of cold, star-filled eyes. Their spiraling pupils and starlight motifs evoke an abyssal, impersonal presence, though its gaze can soften or turn playful around favored believers 14 196 408.
- Icy eyes with spirals and points of starlight 14.
- A voice compared to the cold wind of a frigid abyss 254.
- Its presence can fill the Void with severe wind, frost, and oppressive divine power 610 880.
Personality
Destiny is fundamentally aloof, cold, and difficult for mortals to interpret. It speaks in cryptic statements about fate, change, Void, and the predetermined, which has shaped its followers’ reputation for mystery 196. It can be dismissive of Cheng Shi’s schemes, yet repeatedly tolerates his probing questions and blasphemous conduct more than other gods would 408 410 746.
Change is central to Destiny’s nature. It insists that “Destiny is always changing,” supports divergent paths that return to the predetermined, and can become fiercely hostile toward those it believes threaten its established course 197 787 885. Its indifference does not extend to its followers: it repeatedly intervenes to protect them, especially Cheng Shi 323 880 1069.
Authorities & Influence
Authority of Destiny and Change
Destiny governs the predetermined while also wielding the Authority of Change. It perceives present alterations and can witness the predetermined future, though its own statements emphasize that predetermined outcomes are not necessarily immutable 196 318 882.
- Inflicts misfortune to obstruct threats to the predetermined, including Truth’s experiment 1063.
- Recognizes and permits divergent paths, provided they can return to the predetermined course 196 787.
- Can spread compensatory Destiny to its followers during dangerous trials 1076.
- According to An Mingyu’s interpretation, Destiny creates possible “scripts” and waits for lives to choose which paths to enact 635.
Divine Protection
Destiny directly intervenes when its followers or plans are endangered.
- Secured Cheng Shi’s life through a transaction with Death 323.
- Restrained Annihilation when it attempted to kill Cheng Shi, then pursued it through the Void 880 881.

Faith Fusion
Destiny can coexist with other faiths and grant itself as a second faith.
- Its power enabled Cheng Shi’s fusion with Time, producing talents that enhance Fate Weaver techniques 732 733.
- It grants second faiths broadly in the later Faith Game, apparently accepting most prayers to fuse with it 1126.
- Annihilation believers are notably excluded from this large-scale fusion 1126.
