Locke glanced at Jack. He was wearing a sweat- and dirt-stained linen shirt, soft leather boots, and a leather belt cinched around his sheepskin trousers. In his hand, he held a quenched-iron dagger that gleamed coldly.
"I'll pass on to you the Forest Ranger power I just used to control vines and manipulate plants. What I used just now, and what I use from now on."
The holly tree Treant stroked the dagger in his hand. In an instant, the dagger Jack was holding suddenly became covered in a layer of rust.
Jack stared at his dagger in shock. This was the dagger his father had passed down to him, and his grandfather had passed down to his father. Yet the Treant lord had merely stroked it, and it had rusted.
What kind of power was this?
This had originally been a treasure capable of cutting through iron like mud!
A scene flashed through Jack's mind. If someone raised a knight's sword and slashed at me, wouldn't I only need to touch that sword with my palm for the supposedly indestructible weapon of that knight lord to rust and corrode just like this dagger?
