Although the Golden Lucky Rabbit's Foot had brought Shade, who had successfully arrived in Huntington, a great deal of luck—not only helping him find Mr. Bernhardt, but even allowing him to meet Miss Sylvia without any real danger—Shade had not forgotten the relic's negative properties.

Before resting in a guest room at Galina Manor that evening, he had anxiously wondered what sort of dream he would have that night. Miss Galina had smilingly asked whether Shade wanted to rest on the sofa in her bedroom, but Shade refused:

"That dream probably isn't dangerous enough to warrant that."

Staying overnight at the manor was merely a precaution. He was not particularly worried that the mad rabbits would warp his mind and cause him to lose control; he was only concerned that nightmares at night would affect his spirits during the day and delay important matters.

But no matter what, Shade still had to sleep. After washing up in the guest room's washroom, he closed the door and casually turned the main valve beside it, extinguishing the wall gas lamps and the gas lamp chandelier overhead.

After climbing into bed, he stroked Little Mia, who was already curled up beside his pillow. Only then did he pull up the soft, silky blanket and close his eyes anxiously. The curtains had not been drawn, and March's light shone into the somewhat empty room. Its gentle glow spilled across the bedside without disturbing Shade or Mia.

The bed and blankets at the manor were clearly of better quality than those at Shade's home. The soft, warm covers quickly lulled him to sleep, and the relic's negative property almost immediately took effect.

Shade realized he was dreaming. In the darkness, he saw countless pairs of rabbit eyes emitting Red Light as they watched him.
