Background

Obito was once Minato Namikaze’s kind-hearted student and Kakashi Hatake and Rin’s teammate. Madara manipulated the circumstances surrounding Rin’s capture, her forced status as the Three-Tails’ jinchūriki, and her death at Kakashi’s hand, driving Obito to abandon his former identity and pursue a world in which Rin could live peacefully 137 149.

As the Masked Man, he worked with Akatsuki and supported the Moon’s Eye Plan. He hid behind identities including “Uchiha Madara,” sought the tailed beasts, and acted with extreme brutality toward Konoha shinobi 108 121.

Yoru no Tsuki revealed that Black Zetsu and Madara had orchestrated the events that shaped Obito’s life. The revelation left Obito questioning both the Moon’s Eye Plan and his own purpose 136 137. After Madara’s revival and Obito’s defeat, he returned to Konohagakure to warn Minato about Madara’s plan to revive the Ten-Tails 146 149.

Appearance

Obito commonly conceals his identity behind masks and Akatsuki robes. When unmasked, half of his face is visibly twisted and scarred.

Personality

As the Masked Man, Obito is ruthless, secretive, and willing to massacre shinobi in pursuit of his goals. He dismisses opponents as insignificant and uses fear, deception, and overwhelming force to establish control 121 122.

His actions are rooted in fixation on Rin and the desire to escape a world he considers cruel. Even while aware that Madara has his own agenda, Obito initially clings to the dream of a peaceful world with Rin rather than confront reality 116 136.

After learning the extent of Madara and Black Zetsu’s manipulation, Obito becomes bitterly self-aware and remorseful. He does not expect forgiveness, but chooses to expose Madara’s plans and make amends for the harm he caused 137 149 150.

Akatsuki and the Three-Tails

Obito participates in Akatsuki’s preparations to capture tailed beasts and assigns Black Zetsu to investigate an infiltrator connected to the Konoha incidents 108. While searching for the Three-Tails, he and Black Zetsu confront Yoru no Tsuki and Suigetsu; Yoru exposes Obito’s identity and offers to revive Rin in exchange for his service 113.

Assault on Konoha Forces

Having acquired Dual Kamui, Obito appears before a Konoha camp under the name “Uchiha Madara.” He kills numerous shinobi with Wood Release, abducts Kakashi into Kamui space, and attempts to take back Kakashi’s Sharingan 121 122.

Battle with Yoru no Tsuki

Obito confronts Yoru no Tsuki over the Three-Tails’ jinchūriki and is pulled into Divine Realm Airspace. Despite using Dual Kamui, Wood Release, and Complete Susanoo, he is overwhelmed by Yoru’s spatial control and White Emperor Sword 133 135.

Yoru uses the battle to challenge Obito’s belief in the Moon’s Eye Plan and disclose Madara and Black Zetsu’s manipulation. Obito escapes shaken, no longer certain that the plan serves his own wishes 136 137.

Redemption

After Madara is revived, Obito challenges him over the Three-Tails’ jinchūriki but is defeated 146. He later approaches Minato voluntarily, unmasks himself, reveals Madara’s plan, and pledges to protect the Nine-Tails so the Ten-Tails cannot be revived 149 150.

Minato brings him back to Konoha under supervision. Obito confesses to Tsunade and Jiraiya, reconciles with Kakashi, and accepts Kushina’s punishment and Naruto’s forgiveness 150 152.
