Background
Ye Qin was originally human but became a snake with a human soul. With no precedent for snake cultivation, he had to determine even the basics—such as where a snake’s Dantian might be—and forge his own path through experimentation. 3
While fleeing a hawk, he fell into a hidden cave and discovered a human skeleton beside the Yellow Emperor’s Scripture of Yin Symbols. Mortally injured, he treated the skeleton as his only companion. 2 The skeleton became his first object of contemplation; through White Bone Contemplation, he perceived it as a woman and realized that appearances, flesh, and reality could be generated through the mind. 5 6
The skeleton, later called White Bone or the Source Bone, proved central to Ye Qin’s cultivation. It healed and harmonized his own damaged body, evolved through his visualizations, and eventually received flesh after merging with Long Ling’s remains. 6 203
Appearance
Ye Qin’s original cultivated form is a green snake whose cold, bestial pupils retain unmistakable human awareness. His body changes repeatedly as his cultivation rises. 3 36
- His post-meditation scales become vibrant and resilient; later scales are described as obsidian- and jade-like. 20 61
- After absorbing Moon Essence, his scales shimmer like fallen stars and emit a sacred glow. 36
- As a Jiaolong, he possesses horns and four claws while retaining a reduced, snake-like size when concealed. 189 199
- He becomes a True Dragon after surviving Dragon Transformation Heavenly Tribulation. 206
- His Nascent Soul takes the form of a small green snake rather than a human infant. 206
- His principal humanoid avatar resembles Long Ling: a beautiful, ice-and-jade-like woman with an aloof, otherworldly bearing. 206 256
- When using this avatar’s former visualization power, its eyes can manifest sun and moon imagery. 314
Personality
Ye Qin is patient, self-directed, and unusually reflective. He treats cultivation as both a pursuit of power and an attempt to understand life, death, history, karma, and freedom. Even when his path is difficult, he describes finding joy in it. 15 135
He generally prefers tranquility and lacks the arrogance expected of a powerful cultivator, though he can be teasing and informal with those close to him. 599 603 606 He values a clear conscience more than public opinion, but this principle does not prevent ruthless action against enemies or obstacles. 628 641
His worldview gradually develops toward protecting weaker beings and building a world where cultivation is not monopolized by the strong. He seeks a Xiaoyao World in which “everyone [can be] like a dragon” and no being is merely a pawn for saints. 680
