Background

Early artifacts and discipleship

Nüwa obtained a purple-green gourd from the Primordial Gourd Vine. After becoming a Sage, she refined it into the Demon Summoning Banner, an artifact capable of calling all members of the Demon Clan. She also claimed the withered vine and Nine Heavens Breath Soil at the gourd vine's roots. 37

Hongjun Daozu accepted Nüwa as his final disciple, granted her a Sage Seat and a strand of Primordial Violet Qi, and presented her with the Red Embroidered Ball and Cosmos Cauldron. Hongjun originally intended to grant the Rivers and Mountains Map, but claimed that changing heavenly secrets required him to substitute the cauldron. 51

Human-life account

One account identifies Nüwa as the daughter of Lieshan Shi, leader of the Human Race's Jiang River Tribe. The East Sea Dragon Clan's Crown Prince attempted to drown her, but the Golden Winged Great Peng killed him on Taiyi's orders and brought Nüwa to the Sun Star. 151

Taiyi warned her not to travel alone, stating that she would otherwise have died and become the Jingwei bird. He gave her an Innate Ren Water Flag for protection before returning her to the Jiang River Tribe. 151

Mending the heavens

After Buzhou Mountain's collapse left a rift in the sky, Nüwa proposed refining Five-Colored Divine Stones based on the Five Elements. The Six Sages supplied elemental materials, while Hongjun provided the Heaven Refining Furnace. 136 137

Nüwa refined fifty stones and used forty-nine to seal the rift with the Creation Laws. The remaining stone fell to the Eastern Sea and later became the stone monkey Sun Wukong. Nüwa received ninety percent of the merit earned for mending the heavens. 137

Taiyi approached Nüwa at Wa Palace to seek her support against the schemes surrounding Tongtian and the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. After learning that Yuanshi intended to use her Spirit Pearl Child and that the Western Sages were accelerating the calamity, Nüwa agreed to consider Taiyi's alliance. 235 236 237

Nüwa ultimately aided Tongtian against Laozi, Yuanshi, Zhunti, and Jieyin. She trapped Jieyin in the Rivers and Mountains Map and held Zhunti in battle, preventing the Western Sages from reinforcing their allies. 250
