Background / History

Hongjun became the first Sage of the Primordial Era by proving Dao Primordial Chaos. His attainment triggered Great Dao Heavenly Sound, while the Heavenly Dao repaired damage left by the Dragon-Han Calamity and expanded the Primordial World. His unintentional Sage pressure overwhelmed the world’s great powers, including Zhunti. 6 9

Before his Dao union, Hongjun operated from the Purple Cloud Palace beyond the heavens. He intended to use the Destiny of Primordial beings and the virtue generated by his sermons to deduce a path toward further advancement. Although he followed the Heavenly Dao’s broad trajectory, he also sought a way to escape its restraints. 15

At the Purple Cloud Palace, Hongjun watched the six Great Dao Mats become bound to future Destiny. He regarded the Western Duo’s future separation from the Mystic Sect as a threat to his sect’s fortune and intended to keep the Mats within his Eastern Mystic Sect lineage. 28

After a 3,000-year lecture, Hongjun became the Primordial Dao Ancestor. He named the Eastern King Duke leader of male immortals and the Queen Mother of the West leader of female immortals, granting them the Dragon Head Staff and Western Plain Cloud Banner respectively to regulate yin and yang. 35

During the Witch–Demon conflict, Hongjun prevented the Pangu True Body from destroying the Primordial Continent, dispersed the Twelve Ancestral Witches’ formation, and imposed a ten-thousand-year truce: demons would rule the heavens while witches ruled the earth. 59

Hongjun’s later union with the Heavenly Dao was both an empowerment and a danger. He sought Destiny, Merit, and authority through the merger, while the Heavenly Dao gradually assimilated and influenced him in return. 426 471 570

Identity and Dao Union

  • Hongjun is identified as the founder and embodiment of the Primordial Era’s Immortal Dao laws; these laws are connected to his former existence as a Chaos Order God and Demon. 572
  • After the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, Tongtian and Nüwa conclude that Hongjun has become part of the Heavenly Dao, but that the Heavenly Dao itself is not wholly Hongjun. 266
  • The Heavenly Dao later claims that Hongjun was killed after attempting to devour it, and that it borrowed his body to be reborn. 281
  • Heavenly Dao Hongjun subsequently identifies himself as Hongmeng Heavenly Lord, a high-level upper-realm existence. 416
  • Another account states that the present Hongjun was transformed from the first earthworm born after creation rather than being the original Chaos Order Demon God. 721
  • Xuan Huo recognizes Hongjun as a reborn Chaos Balance Demon God who has retained or recovered his former identity. 794

Personality

Hongjun is patient, calculating, and intensely protective of his authority. He uses sermons, sectarian legitimacy, Destiny, and Heavenly Dao decrees as tools to direct the Primordial Era toward outcomes beneficial to his own advancement. 15 28 570

He presents himself as detached and impartial, particularly when settling disputes between major factions. However, his attempts to control Houtu, suppress Taiyi, manipulate the Immortal Court, and monopolize Primordial authority lead many great powers to view him as hypocritical and self-serving. 461 469 587

Hongjun is also capable of pragmatism. When external enemies threaten the Primordial World, he cooperates with Taiyi and other major powers despite their long rivalry. 611 736 770

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Dao Authority

Hongjun can act as the Heavenly Dao’s spokesperson, invoke its authority, and issue decrees binding major Primordial factions.

  • Stabilized the Primordial Continent after the Witch–Demon conflict and enforced a ten-thousand-year truce. 59
  • Appointed Haotian and Yaochi as Heavenly Emperor and Empress. 141
  • Later gained complete control of Heavenly Dao Authority, turning the Heavenly Dao into his avatar. 770
  • His control was initially incomplete; prolonged manifestation risked losing ground in his contest with the Heavenly Dao’s own consciousness. 139 470

Purple Firmament Divine Lightning

Hongjun’s signature heavenly punishment technique is a Sage-level destructive lightning tribulation.

  • Used it to destroy Taiyi’s Heaven-Shrouding Giant Palm and strike Cangjie. 157
  • Attacked Taiyi directly, though Taiyi’s Merit clouds redirected the lightning toward nearby powerhouses with heavier karma. 459
  • Unleashed a sea of Purple Firmament Divine Lightning against the Epoch Stone Bridge, but failed to destroy it. 611

Immortal Dao and Three-Corpse Methods

As the source of the Immortal Dao, Hongjun can manifest a Good Corpse incarnation formed from Hunyuan immortal energy.

  • His Immortal Dao Good Corpse attempted to seize the imprint of the Thirty-Three Heavens Creation Divine Fist. 572
  • The incarnation possesses Sage-level combat power, but Taiyi’s avatar repelled it with the same divine fist. 572
  • Taiyi suspects that Hongjun’s Evil Corpse and Obsessive Corpse may likewise possess law-based incarnations, potentially including a Devil Dao avatar; Hongjun does not confirm this. 572

Order and Three Thousand Heavenly Dao Laws

Hongjun can combine the Three Thousand Laws of the Heavenly Dao, the Immortal Dao domain, and Order Laws in direct combat.

  • Mobilized these powers against Taiyi during the conflict over the Earth Dao’s revival. 589
  • His Immortal Dao domain and defensive treasures were pierced by Taiyi’s Epoch Divine Fist. 590
  • Despite Sage-level resilience and stored Heavenly Dao Merit, Hongjun hesitates to kill Taiyi because of the karmic backlash attached to Taiyi’s immense Merit. 590

Fate Calculation and Strategic Foresight

Hongjun reads Destiny, uses karmic ties, and plans around predicted future developments.

  • Perceived the future betrayal of the Western Duo and the division of Mystic Sect fortune. 28
  • Calculated Hongyun’s fate and enabled the circumstances of the ambush against him. 511
  • Could not locate Taiyi after Dao union and became increasingly wary of variables outside the Heavenly Dao’s predetermined course. 426 427

  • Taiyi — Principal rival and recurring opponent. Their clashes repeatedly expose the limits of Hongjun’s authority, but they later cooperate against external threats. 458 590 736
  • The Three Purities — Hongjun’s disciples and core Mystic Sect successors. He guides their sect-founding opportunities and later relies on their support. 44 616
  • Zhunti and Jieyin — Western disciples whose future separation from the Mystic Sect Hongjun views as a theft of sectarian Destiny. 28 266
