Background / History

Qi WuHuo studied under Mr. Su after receiving enough copper coins to stop taking winter odd jobs. He placed first in the Spring Examination, later won the Autumn Examination, and became known for refined writing and sharp brushwork. Despite the attention of officials and noble families, he refused financial support from prominent households. 6

He later trained his body through sword forms, finding that martial practice could cultivate his Blood Essence even if it did not fully correspond to the purification of Primordial Essence. 11 After obtaining Mountain God authority, he learned to draw upon a mountain's Primordial Qi and Earth Veins; he also cultivated alchemy, planted spiritual herbs, and treated the mountain and its spirits with respect. 33 41

His experiences in Jin Province shaped his decision to involve himself in mortal affairs. After fulfilling promises made there, he chose to enter the imperial court and weaken the Human Emperor's destiny, accepting the Daoist Sect's Eight Difficulties rather than withdrawing from the world. 119 He later explicitly rejected the paths of the Great Sage, Human Emperor, and Great Emperor, resolving instead to protect ordinary people from those who exploit them. 210

As Houtu's emissary, Qi WuHuo investigated the Green Lion clan's ritual formation, allied with Great Emperor Dongyue, and disrupted the demon race's plans from within. His actions eventually drew a Demon Emperor-issued kill order and made his name known throughout the Three Realms. 247 252 287 323

He completed the Fire Virtue Star Lord's ritual but initially refused to inherit its position, choosing his own Dao. After defeating the Central Ghost Emperor Zhou Qi, he absorbed the Fire Virtue Star Lord's power and gained active command of the Fire Luminary's strength. 281 282

Qi WuHuo later faced the lingering consciousness of the ancient Supreme God Taiyi, which attempted to replace and erase him. Tai Shang saved him despite being stabbed by Taiyi-controlled Qi WuHuo, cleansing Taiyi's influence with his own pure Qi. 380 384 This crisis became intertwined with Qi WuHuo's efforts to stabilize and eventually rescue Empress Nuwa. 412 505 551

After ascending through the Heavenly Gate, Qi WuHuo was recognized as an Emperor and as the disciple of Tai Shang, Shangqing, and Yuqing. He became the True Martial Demon Queller Great Emperor during a period of instability in the Heavenly Realm. 588 597 As the Final Tribulation escalated, he entered the Outer Heaven alone through the Sky-Covering Banner's path to confront the divine demons at its source. 682 696

Appearance

Qi WuHuo is a young Daoist whose brows retain a youthful appearance. He is commonly seen in Daoist robes, including a blue robe, and carries a sword and zither during his travels. 210 286 362

  • Calm, composed bearing even under pressure 291 362
  • Blue Daoist robe in his mortal-world identity 362
  • Often carries a sword at his side and a zither on his back 286
  • Later legends depict his Demon Queller aspect in an iron-like cyan mask, with cold and calm eyes. 210

Personality

Qi WuHuo is upright and resistant to patronage. Even as a celebrated scholar, he refused support from noble families, and this refusal to treat status or power as a substitute for principle persists throughout his cultivation. 6

He repeatedly chooses protection over personal gain. He rejects paths built upon exploitation, refuses to treat Xiao Pengcao as a commodity, and declines the immediate advancement offered by the Fire Virtue Star Lord because it is not his own Dao. 210 258 281

Although gentle in manner, he is highly resolute when confronting danger. He enters the demon formation knowing it may cost his life, faces the consequences of Taiyi's possession without panic, and continues taking responsibility for the Human Dao and the Final Tribulation. 323 381 696
