Background

Yun Qin was born eight thousand years before the later events of the story. During Weaver Girl's pregnancy, Qing Jingwei's ambush damaged Yun Qin's Primordial Spirit; after her birth, she was sealed in ten-thousand-year-old profound ice for thousands of years to stabilize it. She only began growing normally after her parents, Yun Zhiyi and Weaver Girl, became Star Lords a little over three hundred years earlier. 288 554

As a young immortal of the Northern Emperor's lineage, Yun Qin was restless, avoided rigid Heavenly Court rituals, and frequently slipped away to play or explore. She first befriended Qi WuHuo while young, lending him scriptures, reciting the difficult Primordial Scarlet Script for him, and introducing him to osmanthus cakes and sesame cakes. When Yun Qin discovered that Qi WuHuo's Dao foundation had been severely damaged and his lifespan shortened, she sought help from immortals and Guanyin Bodhisattva. Rejecting the path of simply letting go, she challenged the Northern Emperor's trials, repeatedly fighting Star Lord afterimages until she earned the Ziwei Emperor Qi True Scripture. Yun Qin later secretly descended into the mortal realm despite Qi WuHuo's insistence that she remain safely in Heaven. Shangqing Great Dao Lord aided her descent and concealed her heavenly secrets. After cultivating for years, Yun Qin defeated every peer among the Dipper Department's Star Lords and Star Officials before attempting to challenge the Northern Emperor's Son. She then learned that she herself already held that position; challenging the Northern Emperor's Son would mean fighting herself. 589

Following Qi WuHuo's apparent death, Yun Qin fell into a months-long coma, her black hair turned white, and her spiritual injury resurfaced. She travelled through places connected to his life, listened to stories of his youth beneath the plum tree outside his former home, and ultimately remained on Mount Tai to watch over the lands he had walked.
