Background / History

Zhou Yuan was not born a Primordial Divine Being. He originated as an Innate Ren Water Spirit Bamboo and attained the Dao through countless years of cultivation. Although he lacked an inherited lineage, accompanying treasure, and innate combat Divine Ability, he possessed the Myriad Dao Book and Heavenly Machine Chessboard, using knowledge from his previous life to derive methods suited to the Primordial World 1.

While residing at Myriad Bamboo Mountain, Zhou Yuan sensed the Black and White Divine Demon and Golden Light Venerate plotting to seize his treasures. He used heavenly-secret calculations, concealed information with the Myriad Dao Book, and faked Pure Clarity’s death to lure both enemies into a sword formation. After killing them, he cleared the remaining threats and became the sole master of the mountain’s territory 1 3.

After reaching the True One Realm, Zhou Yuan traveled east in search of Dao essence and opportunities. At Myriad Spirits Mountain, he heard Nuwa and Fuxi preach, refined the Innate Yin and Yang Qi he had taken from the Black and White Divine Demon, and formed the Innate Yin-Yang Primordial Chaos Divine Light 4 5. He later took Chessboard Mountain, developed its marketplace, and used the steady influx of cultivation resources and Daoist techniques to establish his Water Element Cycle path 7 8.

Zhou Yuan subsequently inherited the authority of the Wei River through the Water God’s Golden Seal. He established the Wei River Water Mansion, organized it into civil and military divisions, and expanded its influence by seizing water veins and removing the Tianshui Imperial Dynasty’s remaining Dao Bodies 19 34 40 47. His authority later extended to the Heavenly Realm as the Heavenly River Water God and head of the Water Department 54 55.

At Wuyi Mountain, Zhou Yuan founded the Taiyuan Faction, accepted disciples, and developed the Earth Immortal Dharma Gate from the Inner Scenery Blessed Land Dharma. His agreement with Zhen Yuanzi established him as the Ancestor of Earth Immortals, while Zhen Yuanzi became the Earth Immortal Sect Master 93 94 103 104.

After obtaining the Dragon Gate and consolidating allies across the Four Seas and Primordial Continent, Zhou Yuan contested the Water Element Black Emperor position. He subdued Old Ancestor Ming He and the Sea of Blood, recovered the Black Emperor Seal, and ultimately merged with the Great Dao of Water Element to become the new Black Emperor 162 217 220 221.

Zhou Yuan commonly appears as a composed green- or cyan-robed Daoist carrying a bamboo staff. His presence becomes increasingly difficult to discern as his cultivation rises, often concealed beneath chaotic immortal energy, auspicious clouds, or Water Element Dao principles 4 83 177.

He is ambitious without being reckless. Zhou Yuan repeatedly refuses gains that could compromise his long-term plans, including Zi Wei Star Lord’s initial offer to make him Water Virtue Star Lord. He later accepts cooperation with the Star God Lineage only after securing terms compatible with his Water Element ambitions 58 198.

Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies who obstruct his path, Zhou Yuan is generous to subordinates and cultivators of good character.
