Background
Petilil originally belonged to Darby's family at the Fruit Grove. Its healing leaves were harvested for income, and its rarity made it a target for nobles seeking a Panacea. It was seized for Baron Reiser's treatment and confined in an iron cage at the baron's residence, wounded but still defiant. 1 2
Aiven offered to cure Reiser in exchange for Petilil's release. Although Petilil initially distrusted him, it regained hope after he promised to take it home; Aiven recovered it after successfully waking the baron. 3 4 Returning to the Fruit Grove gave Petilil relief despite its resentment over its former exploitation. 5
Aiven subsequently promised Petilil and the other farm Spirits that they would not be exploited for their resources. Instead, he trained Petilil through Growth Fertilizer, combat practice, and potion-assisted techniques. 6 11 15 Its healing aptitude eventually made it an essential medic for Aiven's Spirits and for Magical Beasts afflicted by the Gray Mist. 121 149
During the conflict with Seaside City, Petilil awakened Grassy Terrain and sustained the injured Grass-type forces with Life Energy. 189 It later evolved into Tsareena after gathering Solar, Life, and Natural Energy, continuing to develop its Life Energy control and combat potential. 307 335
Appearance
As a Petilil, it resembles a small green plant Spirit with a round, striped, bulb-like head and a white face. 2
- Three oval healing leaves grow from its head.
- It has large round eyes and a green bib-like collar.
- Its body has five short appendages: two arms, two legs, and a central lower appendage. 2
- Its leaves can regrow when supplied with sufficient Growth Fertilizer. 11
Personality
Petilil was initially wary and despairing after being caged for use as medicine, but Aiven's rescue restored its trust and sense of safety. 2 3 5 It is sensitive to neglect; when Aiven became busy, it resolved to become stronger rather than merely demand attention. 72
It is exceptionally curious, ambitious, and prone to pursuing techniques independently. Its attempts to imitate Sweet Scent resulted in Aromatic Treatment, while its interest in Tangela's Ancient Power training led it to comprehend Natural Power instead. 120 177 It also possesses a competitive streak, becoming motivated to learn Heal Pulse after seeing Ralts use it. 274
Abilities & Skills
Healing Leaves and Life Energy
Petilil's leaves possess innate healing properties, and its control of Life Energy developed into its defining talent. 72 149
- Can restore stamina and nourish living beings through Life Energy. 74 173
- Used Life Energy to assist a Gloom's evolution. 160
- Can supply Life Energy during evolution ceremonies for other Spirits. 234
- Its healing specialization prompted Aiven to consider establishing a dedicated Spirit Center around it. 149
Aromatic Treatment Technique
A rare healing technique produced through the fragrance of Petilil's healing leaves.
- Cures abnormal status conditions in Spirits. 121
- Temporarily restores clarity to Magical Beasts corrupted by the Gray Mist. 121
- Was unintentionally discovered while Petilil tried to imitate Gloom's Sweet Scent. 120
- Its early treatment of Gray Mist corruption was promising but did not completely remove the mist. 121
Natural Power and Grassy Terrain
Petilil can manipulate natural energy and adapt its attacks to the surrounding terrain.
- Natural Power changes attribute and form according to terrain. 177
- Rock field: Rock Slide.
- Normal field: Swift Star.
- Grass field: Razor Leaf.
- Grassy Terrain heals allies, strengthens Grass-type Spirits, and draws on energy stored in the ground. 189
- Its Grassy Terrain can strain it when supporting many injured Spirits at once, requiring assistance from Growth Fertilizer, Healing Potions, and Tyrantrum's Dig. 189
- Its mastery of Grassy Terrain surpasses Vileplume's due to its Life Energy control. 195
Poison and Powder Techniques
Aiven trained Petilil to use debilitating techniques in addition to its healing moves.
- Deadly Poison Technique corrodes the ground and can inflict a dangerous poison state. 17
- Aiven instructed it not to use Deadly Poison casually because of the risk to humans and Spirits. 17
- Sleep Powder was learned as part of the farm's defensive training and taught to the Walking Grass squad. 39 40
Potion Preparation
Petilil became a skilled potion-making assistant through repeated work with Aiven.
- Learned to prepare Nutrient Juice from Orange Fruits. 46
- Can sense the energy within ingredients and monitor their fusion during preparation. 120
- Treats potion-making as both work and energy-control training. 120 242
Solar Energy and Energy Ball
Following its evolution, Tsareena continued integrating Solar Energy with Life and Natural Energy.
- Its evolution was driven by the balance of Solar, Life, and Natural Energy. 307
- Demonstrated a powerful Energy Ball on the Black Coast. 335
- Its Life Energy control became strong enough to pressure Kirlia into seeking further evolution. 335

- Gloom — Helped explain Sweet Scent, indirectly leading Petilil to create Aromatic Treatment Technique. 120
- Vileplume — Fellow Grass-type support Spirit. Vileplume assisted Petilil in maintaining Grassy Terrain during the battle with Seaside City. 189
