Background / History

Orange Fruit Village began as a border fruit-farming community whose orchards produced Orange Fruits—blue-orange fruits with stamina-restoring life energy. Its groves also sheltered Cherubi, whose head-fruit was harvested by humans and regrew afterward 5 9.

The village was vulnerable to the annual Magical Beast tide from the mountains. Because the City of Ambition could not reliably protect every nearby settlement, Aiven began organizing Walking Grass into a local defensive force while using potion knowledge to improve the village’s harvests 12.

Rural Cooperative

Under Village Chief Darby/Daby’s leadership, the villagers formed a rural cooperative with Aiven. Villagers supplied Orange Fruits for Healing Potions, while Aiven received 30% of the resulting profits; he provided Growth Fertilizer without charge in exchange for rotten fruit, which served as potion material 13 47.

The cooperative transformed the local economy. The village sold large quantities of Healing Potions to the City of Ambition through tax collector Qiongsen, and the profits allowed fruit farmers to support Spirit training and orchard upkeep 45 47.

Spirit Settlement and Winter Defense

More than one hundred Walking Grass entered the village alongside a Gloom, initially alarming residents because of the Gloom’s odor 44. The Grass-type Spirits became essential harvest workers and defenders, while Aiven trained them in moves such as Sleep Powder 45.

During winter, Aiven’s Spirits kept Magical Beasts away from the village. The villagers gradually recognized that Gloom’s odor was a deterrent rather than a nuisance; by this point, roughly two hundred Gloom guarded the surrounding grasslands 55 64.

Expansion into a Territorial Center

Orange Fruit Village sheltered migrants from nearby settlements during the beast tide, constructing temporary wooden housing on farmland for incoming villagers 103. Persimmon Seed Village and other nearby communities eventually chose to relocate around Orange Fruit Village, which Aiven planned to develop into the territory’s central town 171 172.

After Aiven became Border Count, the village became the administrative and economic center of a 40-square-kilometer territory containing nine villages and nearly a thousand people 154. By early summer, the merged settlement had expanded several times beyond its former size and was already described as more fittingly called a town 183 206.

Defense Battle Against Seaside City

Seaside City’s Knight Order attacked Orange Fruit Village with nearly a thousand knights, using Gulls to create rain and water-aligned Large-tailed Foxes as mounts 188. The village mobilized its patrol members, trainee Trainers, knights, Gloom, Walking Grass, Great Wolfdogs, and other Spirits under Aiven’s command.

Vileplume strengthened the Grass-type defenders with Grassy Terrain, allowing the Walking Grass and Gloom to overwhelm the invading Big-toothed Foxes. Orange Fruit Village ultimately repelled the assault and captured much of the enemy’s Spirit force 188 194. Flooding damaged houses and drowned many fruit saplings, but Aiven ordered reconstruction and free replacement saplings for affected villagers 195.

Conflict with the Monster Merchant Association

As Orange Fruit Village’s potion and Spirit-breeding industries expanded, it entered a trade conflict with the Monster Merchant Association, which attempted to cut off its fruit and food supplies 225 230. The village maintained its potion output through fruit cultivation, mutation, and Spirit-assisted growth 233 238.

The association later sent assassins and spies into the territory. Aiven’s forces uncovered the infiltration, annihilated the assassination team, and detained the association’s agents, publicly demonstrating that Orange Fruit Village could contend with Iron Blood Fortress and its allies 250.

Layout & Landmarks

  • Fruit Groves and Farms — The village’s original foundation; Orange Fruits, Spirit Food ingredients, and experimental fruit varieties are cultivated here 170 173.
  • Grassland and outer defenses — A Spirit-inhabited area outside the village where Gloom, Walking Grass, Great Wolfdogs, Torterra, and other Spirits live or patrol 170 188.
  • Experimental fieldAiven’s fruit-mutation site, where mixed plantings produce new fruit varieties for potions, fertilizers, and Spirit cultivation 173 225 233.
  • Spirit Breeding House — The main headquarters for Spirit Food, potions, trainee Trainer support, and Spirit breeding operations 225.
  • Marketplace — Built in the northwest district on land formerly used to house Magical Beasts from the Guixu Forest; merchant caravans and local vendors trade there 241.
  • Spirit battle arenas — Purpose-built venues for Knight Selection competitions and Spirit battles 242.
  • Residential district — A southern residential area containing homes, schools, hospitals, and other town facilities 321.

Economy & Agriculture

Fruit and Potion Production

Orange Fruit Village’s earliest prosperity came from turning Orange Fruits into Healing Potions. Orange Fruit’s stamina-restoring life energy also makes it suitable for Growth Fertilizer 9 45.

  • Fruit farmers receive cooperative dividends from potion sales 13 47.
  • Rotten fruit is collected for fertilizer production rather than discarded 13 298.
  • Fruit is processed into Healing Potions, Spirit Food, fertilizer, Nutrient Juice, and other potion materials 46 170 298.
  • The village buys fruit from outside territories when necessary, including unripe fruit during early expansion and high-priced food supplies during the trade war 49 225.

Spirit-Assisted Farming

Spirits are integrated directly into agricultural work rather than treated solely as combat assets.

  • Walking Grass and Gloom harvest fruit, dry grain, and protect orchards 45 298.
  • Tyrantrum tills new farmland with its Digging Move 173 174.
  • Vileplume’s Grassy Terrain and other Grass-type moves accelerate fruit-tree growth 173 233.
  • Combee and Vespiquen produce honey from flower fields created with Tsareena’s assistance 321.
  • Fruit branches and leaves are sent to Burmy breeding facilities, while rotten fruit is converted into fertilizer 298.

Fruit Mutation

Aiven’s experimental orchards combine different fruit varieties to produce mutated fruits with new properties 225 233.

  • Recorded mutations include Biba Fruit, Hami Fruit, Algae Root Fruit, and Sugar Apple Fruit 233.
  • Rare fruits such as Dragon Eye Fruit and Branch Lychee Fruit are cultivated for stronger fertilizers and Spirit-training resources 234 380.
  • By later development, the land surrounding Orange Fruit Village had been extensively cleared into orchards to meet the growing demand for fertilizer and medicinal agents 379.

Defense & Spirit Coexistence

Orange Fruit Village’s defining feature is its coexistence between residents and Spirits without Beast Gear. A person recognized by a Spirit can register as a trainee Trainer, advance into the patrol team, and potentially qualify for knighthood 158 255.

  • Gloom and Walking Grass — Form the core local defense force; their Sleep Powder, Acid, Absorb techniques, Rooting, and Grassy Terrain synergy can halt organized knight forces 92 188.
  • Sweet Scent — Most village Gloom eventually learn Sweet Scent, replacing the former pervasive odor with a pleasant fragrance 228.
  • Patrol Team — Made up largely of commoners and their Spirits; handles security, village order, and defensive response 171 188.
  • Knight Order — Formed from qualified patrol members and trained by veteran knights hired by Aiven 154 171.
  • Spirit Breeding system — Provides commoners with a path to obtain, raise, and train Spirits through the breeding house and Trainer system 154 175.

Relationships

  • Aiven — Lord and principal architect of the village’s cooperative, defenses, Spirit-training system, and territorial expansion 13 154 170.
  • Uncle Darby / Daby — Village chief and veteran fruit farmer; manages orchard affairs and supports the cooperative’s agricultural development 47 170 206.
  • City of Ambition — Purchases the village’s Healing Potions, sends resources and migrants during crises, and recognizes Aiven’s territorial authority 47 103 154.
  • Persimmon Seed Village — Neighboring village whose residents relocate north of Orange Fruit Village and become integrated into its growing settlement 171 172.
  • Seaside City — Invading force defeated during the Orange Fruit Village Defense Battle; many of its Large-tailed Foxes and Big-toothed Foxes were left in Orange Fruit Village’s custody afterward 188 194.
  • Monster Merchant Association / Iron Blood Fortress — Economic and military rivals that attempted supply restrictions, espionage, and assassination against Orange Fruit Village 225 250.
  • Black Forest — Nearby source of potion ingredients, wild Spirits, and recurring Magical Beast threats; also a major direction for the territory’s future expansion 45 195.

Trivia
