Background / History

Tony Stark returns to Stark Industries amid a conflict with Obadiah Stane, who resents Tony's decision to close the company's weapons research and development department. After Stane attacks him in the Iron Monger armor, Tony publicly embraces his superhero identity with the declaration, “I'm Iron Man.” 3 4 5

At Monaco, Tony survives Ivan Vanko's electric-whip assault despite being weakened by poison. Happy Hogan delivers a portable armor briefcase, allowing Tony to suit up and overpower Vanko's exoskeleton through superior armor, speed, and close-range combat. 16
