Background
Before transmigrating, Xie Liancheng was a traditional martial-arts athlete who became a mixed martial arts champion and won world-level fighting competitions. His modern training gave him access to mature combat systems and scientific methods that other fighters in the new world lacked. 789 1072
He grew up with Zhou Xu and regarded him as a brother. After Zhou Xu was believed dead following their group’s transmigration, Xie Liancheng carried intense guilt until the two reunited. 671
Xie Liancheng entered Yan Sheng’s service and became one of the ruler’s most important generals, making major contributions to the annexation of surrounding states. His military prestige also made Yan Sheng suspicious; after the conquest of Wei, Yan Sheng stripped him of military authority and kept him in the capital. 651 658
Yan Sheng’s control over Xie Liancheng’s family ultimately pushed him to defect. Xie Liancheng secretly allied with Zhou Xu, used a staged duel to deceive Yan Sheng, and operated as Great Zhou’s mole within the enemy state. 659 676
Appearance
Xie Liancheng has a sturdy, heavily trained physique befitting an elite combat athlete and battlefield general. 853
- Emits visible flowing electric light beneath and around his skin when his cultivation and True Words surge during martial practice. 885
- Often fights mounted on Horse King, his longtime warhorse and comrade-in-arms. 853 984
- Commonly wields a Three-Pointed, Two-Edged Halberd. 659 1254
Personality
Xie Liancheng is direct, competitive, and intensely devoted to combat. Yan Sheng’s forces viewed him as a battle maniac whose mind was occupied almost entirely by fighting, an impression Xie Liancheng sometimes deliberately used to conceal his true intentions. 659 688
Although arrogant about his personal strength, he is capable of self-reflection. After the grassland-pass battle, he openly acknowledged that Zhou Chongshan possessed greater willpower and battlefield composure. 1073
He is deeply attached to his wife and son. Initially disappointed that Xie Qihu did not inherit exceptional potential, he ultimately decided that his son’s health and happiness mattered more than martial success. 724 725
A severe battle injury later left him with a psychological barrier: he feared that another serious injury would leave him permanently weakened. This fear stalled his cultivation until Zhou Chongshan forced him to confront it in battle. 1254 1255
Abilities & Skills
Peerless Martial Arts
Xie Liancheng is Great Zhou’s foremost close-combat specialist for much of the story. His pre-transmigration combat education lets him rapidly learn, apply, and teach practical techniques designed to incapacitate or kill efficiently. 672 789
- Defeated and intimidated enemy troops through overwhelming individual force, often using slain commanders to break enemy morale. 721 853
- Can fight while mounted and lead cavalry charges personally. 867
- Learns and refines weapon techniques quickly, though Zhou Chongshan’s all-weapon aptitude exceeds his own. 1150
- His two-star Command limits his effectiveness as an independent large-unit commander. He is most suited to leading small formations or acting as a frontline combatant. 672 1064
True Qi and Vajra Cultivation
His breakthrough into the Hundred Refinements Realm allowed him to develop True Qi and raised his life level to Extraordinary Life. 885 890
- True Qi substantially improves his ability to confront opponents of the Hundred Refinements Realm and above. 890
- At Vajra Realm, his senses and eyesight become far superior to those of ordinary people. 1255 1733
- His progress is vulnerable to psychological restraints; fear of injury previously suppressed strength he already possessed. 1254
Lightning Dance
Lightning Dance is a granted True Word that stimulates Xie Liancheng’s body with electric current, producing explosive speed and power. He also possesses the granted Speed Enhancement True Word. 885
- Can be used to rapidly overwhelm powerful foes, including a Vajra Realm Green Skin general and the Boar Person Man Gu. 1088 1959
- Enhances his movements enough to produce visible electric light around his body. 885
- Places extreme strain on his muscles and can leave him severely injured or unable to fight effectively afterward. 854 1082 1110
Thunderclap Slash
A powerful halberd technique combining Xie Liancheng’s physical strength with broad, forceful swings. 853
- Can cleave through multiple enemy soldiers in a charge and send bodies flying. 853
- Was used decisively during the Liang campaign and later against Man Gu. 853 1959
- Causes significant muscle soreness; after use, he expects impaired condition for roughly a week. 854
Martial-Arts Instruction and Cultivation Research
Xie Liancheng teaches martial techniques in practical, accessible terms despite considering himself unsuited to complex strategy. 766 883
- Taught Zhou Xu Tai Chi Quan and foundational boxing stances to strengthen his body. 766 883
- Helped Shi Lei and Li Tie investigate whether martial cultivation could better activate granted True Word power. 887
- Created the Body Forging Fist, then later recognized its low efficiency after comparing it with foreign Fighting Qi techniques. 1594
- Advocated tailoring cultivation methods to an individual’s own combat style rather than forcing everyone into the same technique. 1594
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Three-Pointed, Two-Edged Halberd — his signature battlefield weapon; its reach lets him control distance against close-range opponents. 659 1254
- Horse King — his beloved warhorse, which once saved his life in a battle against Green Skins. Xie Liancheng agreed to let it undergo an essence-blood evolution test for Great Zhou’s warhorse program. 984
- Scale Armor — used as standard Great Zhou military equipment during his service. 654
Relationships
- Zhou Xu — childhood friend and sworn-brother-like confidant. Xie Liancheng defected to Great Zhou after reuniting with him and frequently serves as his martial instructor, advisor, and emotional support. 671 766 1698
- Aru — wife. She endured Yan Sheng’s use of Xie Liancheng as a frontline general and later reunited with him after Xianyang City fell. 721 724
- Xie Qihu — son. Xie Liancheng initially hoped for exceptional martial potential but came to prioritize Qihu’s happiness and education. 723 725 890
- Yan Sheng — former ruler and captor of Xie Liancheng’s family. Xie Liancheng secretly betrayed him, then used Yan Sheng’s severed head to secure Xianyang City’s surrender. 659 721
- Zhou Chongshan — fellow general, sparring partner, and later a major source of pressure and growth. Zhou Chongshan helped Xie Liancheng overcome his trauma and break into the Vajra Realm. 1073 1254 1255
- Li Tie — subordinate and martial-arts student. Xie Liancheng takes pride in Li Tie’s breakthrough to the Hundred Refinements Realm. 887 984
- Shi Lei — fellow Great Zhou general and frequent campaign partner. They cooperated in the Liang campaign and at Copper Furnace Fortress. 854 1196
- Eredar — Dark Elf martial artist and sparring partner. Xie Liancheng helped provoke Eredar out of complacency, then trained with him under rules limiting True Qi use. 2036 2037
Story Role / Major Arcs
Defection from Yan Sheng
Xie Liancheng feigned a hard-fought draw against Zhou Xu to preserve his cover, then began passing intelligence and manipulating Yan Sheng’s forces from within. 659 669 672
After Yan Sheng’s death, he killed Xianyang’s lord Cao Peng, displayed Yan Sheng’s head before the garrison, and forced the city’s immediate surrender to Great Zhou. 721
Great Zhou General and Border Defender
He remained in Xianyang to control its newly incorporated garrison, where his reputation as Yan Sheng’s former Great General deterred unrest. 738
Later, he cleared primitive tribes in the Northeast Region, expanding Great Zhou’s territory before confronting renewed Green Skin incursions. 1058
Martial Breakthroughs
After nearly dying against a powerful Green Skin, Xie Liancheng reached full five-star Valor and discovered the existence of higher cultivation realms. 864 879 882
His boxing practice unexpectedly triggered the Hundred Refinements Realm breakthrough, making him the first documented human in Great Zhou to rise from Mortal Flesh to Extraordinary Life. 885 886
His subsequent Vajra Realm breakthrough came only after Zhou Chongshan’s relentless pressure shattered the fear that had restrained him since his severe injury. 1254 1255
Later Campaigns and Training
Xie Liancheng served as a major strike force in campaigns against Green Skins, Slaughter Clan forces, and Orc Alliance enemies, relying on Lightning Dance when swift elimination of powerful targets was necessary. 1088 1959
He also became involved in Great Zhou’s long-term cultivation development, improving the Body Forging Fist through analysis of foreign Fighting Qi techniques. 1594
