Background / History

Mu was the disciple of Iwagakure's First Tsuchikage, Ishikawa, and the teacher of Ōnoki. While Iwagakure was still being built, he accompanied Ishikawa and the young Ōnoki to Konoha as an envoy, where he acknowledged the Land of Fire's abundant resources while urging Ōnoki to uphold Iwagakure's Stone Will. 38

When Madara Uchiha announced his intention to destroy Iwagakure, Mu sought confirmation that Madara would fight alone before accepting the challenge on the village's behalf. 39 During Iwagakure's defense, Mu hid outside a weighted barrier and prepared Dust Release to kill the slowed Madara; Madara's Dustless Mist obscured his target before he could fire. 43

As Iwagakure's forces collapsed under Madara's Perfect Susanoo, Mu persuaded Ishikawa to create an opening with the Super Stone Golem Technique. Mu attempted to strike Madara from behind with Dust Release, but Madara detected him, severely wounded him, and killed both Mu and Ishikawa. 44

Mu was also known as a rival of the Second Mizukage, Hōzuki Gengetsu. Their repeated clashes were regarded as a pinnacle matchup beneath the Super Kage level, with both men suffering severe chakra depletion and injuries in their prolonged battle. 72 74

He is deeply committed to Iwagakure and its succession. During the village's collapse, he refused to surrender and searched for a way to defeat Madara; later, after learning that Deidara had betrayed Iwagakure, he immediately set out to discipline his disciple's grandson. 44 252

His pragmatism could be severe. After learning Iwagakure had been infiltrated and was likely lost, he chose to preserve its main force and continue the war against Kirigakure rather than order a doomed return to defend the village. 77
