History

Decline in Yan Gui City

The Chen Family migrated to the Great Zhou Kingdom after declining from its former glory. It had once been the kingdom’s foremost aristocratic family and the leading lineage of Northern Plains Commandery, while the Liu Family had been its vassal. To demonstrate loyalty, the Liu Family established a rule that every generation’s Family Head’s daughter would marry into the Chen Family. 3

Over roughly a century, the Chen Family fell to the point that it could only remain in Yan Gui City. The Liu Family cut contact after becoming one of Great Zhou’s Three Great Families, then returned only to nullify its old marriage obligation before Liu Mengyan’s intended marriage into the imperial family. 3

Chen Changan’s return

When Liu Chengfeng used his peak True Qi Realm aura to intimidate the Chen Family, Chen Yunxuan refused to yield and declared that the family would reclaim what it had lost. Chen Changan then appeared, identified himself as a Chen, and was recognized by Chen Zhengyuan as the family’s Old Ancestor. 4

Chen Zhengyuan, the 135th Family Head, and the assembled clansmen knelt before Chen Changan. Rumors later established that an earlier Chen ancestor had been taken away by an expert centuries before and never returned, explaining why Chen Changan’s existence had been dismissed as fabrication. 4

Chen Changan chose Chen Yunxuan as the younger generation’s successor, taught him the Emperor-tier Supreme Hegemon Body Art, and instructed him to lead the family in the future. The family subsequently entered a month of concentrated cultivation. 8

Yan Gui City conflicts

The Xu and Ning Families believed the Chen Family had obtained a treasure after its sudden rise in strength. They entered the compound with their elites and demanded access to it, but Chen Zhengyuan closed the gates and rejected their threats. 10

Under Chen Changan’s orders, the Chen Family defeated the Xu and Ning Families’ invading elites and leaders. Chen Changan subsequently instructed Chen Yunxuan to eradicate both families completely, stressing that enemies should be eliminated at their roots. 11 12

Chen Changan declined Commandery Governor Wu Chengfeng’s offer to relocate the family, stating that the Chen Family would eventually leave Yan Gui City for the capital. 12

Central Heaven Domain resettlement

A year before the discovery of a mid-grade Spiritual Vein, Chen Zhengyuan moved the Chen Family to the outer reaches of the Central Heaven Domain. The family’s cultivation and fortune improved rapidly using resources Chen Changan had left behind, and its disciples repeatedly found rare treasures. 245

The Spiritual Vein attracted the Xun and Sun Families as well as the Immortal Cloud Sect. Chen Yunxuan returned, drove off the Immortal Cloud Sect’s representative, and then chose to cooperate with the sect. The Chen Family provided two-tenths of the vein in exchange for a powerful ally and a period of secure development. 245 247

Northern Xuan Chen Family

The North Xuan Chen Family is documented in a separate setting under Chen Minglou and Gu Yunmeng. Its known younger generation included Chen Changping and Chen Longjiao, both Heavenly God Realm cultivators by their twenties. 756

• Chen Changan returned to this family despite being unable to cultivate conventionally, incapacitating three fifth-level Earth God Realm cultivators through physical strength alone. 746

Heavenly Derivation Chen Family

The Chen Family encountered by Chen Tianxing on the Heavenly Derivation Continent derives its surname from Chen Changan’s father rather than from ordinary blood descent. Its ancestor had been an abandoned child rescued by Chen Changan’s father, who gave him the Chen surname and ordered his descendants to obey his “Young Master” if he ever appeared. 3187 3189

Internal conflict

Chen Tianxing, the Family Head’s biological eldest grandson, returned after being cast out. He intended to restore his standing within the clan before confronting his second and third uncles, but branch-family members blocked his entry and denied his membership. 3185

Chen Shouzheng defended Tianxing and accused the second and third branches of covertly targeting him. Tianxing revealed that the Qin Family had suppressed his talent and that he had killed the clansmen sent to assassinate him in Heavenly Martial City. 3187

The family’s elders and Shouzheng’s sons challenged Chen Changan’s authority despite the ancestor’s command. Chen Changan answered that the Chen surname had been granted by his father’s line and could likewise be reclaimed; he exempted Chen Tianxing’s immediate family from this threat. 3190 3191

After the internal dissenters were removed, Chen Shouzheng reported that the family’s atmosphere and cultivation progress had improved. The Liu Family then began watching the clan with hostile intent. 3194
