Decline in Yan Gui City

The Chen Family migrated to the Great Zhou Kingdom after declining from its former glory. It had once been the kingdom’s foremost aristocratic family and the leading lineage of Northern Plains Commandery, while the Liu Family had been its vassal. To demonstrate loyalty, the Liu Family established a rule that every generation’s Family Head’s daughter would marry into the Chen Family. 3

Over roughly a century, the Chen Family fell to the point that it could only remain in Yan Gui City. The Liu Family cut contact after becoming one of Great Zhou’s Three Great Families, then returned only to nullify its old marriage obligation before Liu Mengyan’s intended marriage into the imperial family. 3

Liu Mengyan offered ten thousand Low-grade Spirit Stones and five Core Condensation Pills as compensation. Although the Chen Family lacked cultivation resources, Chen Zhengyuan refused to accept an offer he regarded as humiliating. The family had already considered the marriage rule effectively void because the Liu Family had severed its ties with them. 3

Chen Zhengyuan later explained that the family had enjoyed another period of glory after Chen Changan’s departure, but eventually declined and migrated to Great Zhou to recuperate. Its former home had been at least a million kilometers away. 5

Chen Changan’s return

When Liu Chengfeng used his peak True Qi Realm aura to intimidate the Chen Family, Chen Yunxuan refused to yield and declared that the family would reclaim what it had lost. Chen Changan then appeared, identified himself as a Chen, and was recognized by Chen Zhengyuan as the family’s Old Ancestor. 4

Chen Zhengyuan, the 135th Family Head, and the assembled clansmen knelt before Chen Changan. Rumors later established that an earlier Chen ancestor had been taken away by an expert centuries before and never returned, explaining why Chen Changan’s existence had been dismissed as fabrication. 4

Chen Changan retained the Liu Family’s marriage contract and instructed Liu Mengyan to wait for the Chen Family to deliver it themselves. He emphasized that the family should rely on its own efforts to recover its former glory rather than expect him to act directly. To support that recovery, he gave Chen Zhengyuan a Storage Ring containing one hundred thousand High-grade Spirit Stones, Top-grade Spirit Stones, high-level cultivation techniques, martial skills, and rare treasures. 5

Chen Zhengyuan also presented him with a jade box containing a pearl preserved by the ancestors specifically for him. This Fetal Pearl subsequently entered Chen Changan’s body and enabled him to absorb spiritual energy. His first cultivation session drew the surrounding spiritual energy toward his residence, exciting the Chen Family and alarming the other families of Yan Gui City. 5 6

Chen Changan chose Chen Yunxuan as the younger generation’s successor, taught him the Emperor-tier Supreme Hegemon Body Art, and instructed him to lead the family in the future. The family subsequently entered a month of concentrated cultivation. 8

Chen Changan explained that, although he shared roots with the family, he could not remain there indefinitely. Chen Yunxuan’s training was intended to produce someone capable of shouldering the responsibilities of the current generation. 8

Yan Gui City conflicts

The Xu and Ning Families believed the Chen Family had obtained a treasure after its sudden rise in strength. They entered the compound with their elites and demanded access to it, but Chen Zhengyuan closed the gates and rejected their threats. 10

Under Chen Changan’s orders, the Chen Family defeated the Xu and Ning Families’ invading elites and leaders. Chen Changan subsequently instructed Chen Yunxuan to eradicate both families completely, stressing that enemies should be eliminated at their roots. 11 12

Chen Changan declined Commandery Governor Wu Chengfeng’s offer to relocate the family, stating that the Chen Family would eventually leave Yan Gui City for the capital. 12

Central Heaven Domain resettlement

A year before the discovery of a mid-grade Spiritual Vein, Chen Zhengyuan moved the Chen Family to the outer reaches of the Central Heaven Domain. The family’s cultivation and fortune improved rapidly using resources Chen Changan had left behind, and its disciples repeatedly found rare treasures. 245

The Spiritual Vein attracted the Xun and Sun Families as well as the Immortal Cloud Sect. Chen Yunxuan returned, drove off the Immortal Cloud Sect’s representative, and then chose to cooperate with the sect. The Chen Family provided two-tenths of the vein in exchange for a powerful ally and a period of secure development. 245 247

Before Chen Yunxuan’s return, Chen Zhengyuan had considered jointly developing the mine with the Xun and Sun Families because both possessed Void Glimpse Realm experts. After the family publicized Yunxuan’s return and his standing as number one on the Human Ranking, the heads of both rival families visited to apologize. Chen Zhengyuan celebrated his return with a grand banquet. 245 246

Although the family revered Chen Changan as its Old Ancestor, Chen Zhengyuan recognized that ten thousand years had greatly weakened their bloodline connection. He regarded Chen Changan’s continued support as exceptional kindness rather than something the family could take for granted. 245

Entry into Chen Changan’s small world

When Chen Changan offered to transfer those close to him into his personal small world, the Chen Family accepted without hesitation. Chen Zhengyuan asked whether their Old Ancestor would appear there regularly; Chen Changan said that he would eventually visit, though he could not promise a schedule. The family was transferred alongside other allied clans, sects, and individuals. 595

Chen Changan also reassured those gathered that Chen Yunxuan was developing well in the Immortal Realm and that they would have opportunities to meet him again. 595

Investigations into earlier Chen Families

During his travels in Langya, Chen Changan asked about a Chen Family that had existed in Yun Chuan more than five hundred years earlier. Lin Xiong and the Qing Shui Lin Family’s elders recognized the significance of this inquiry, despite initially treating the surname as belonging to an insignificant family. 49

In another documented return to a remembered Chen Family residence, Chen Changan found that the clan had disappeared. An elderly local recalled that the family had suffered a bloody catastrophe more than two hundred years earlier, but could not say whether its members had been killed or had fled. Chen Changan declined Da Huang’s offer to search for them because their survival and whereabouts were unknown. The passage does not establish this vanished family’s identity relative to the other documented Chen clans. 1757

Northern Xuan Chen Family

The North Xuan Chen Family is documented in a separate setting under Chen Minglou and Gu Yunmeng. Its known younger generation included Chen Changping and Chen Longjiao, both Heavenly God Realm cultivators by their twenties. 756

The Fengyang Lin Clan was the foremost noble family in the Qian Yuan Realm and ranked among its three strongest powers. Its strength exceeded that of the Chen Family and Bright Moon Immortal Sect combined. Nevertheless, Chen Minglou and Gu Yunmeng supported Meng Xiaoxiao’s right to refuse the proposed marriage and accepted responsibility for the consequences. 771

Chen Changan’s return after a little over two years brought both relief and astonishment: he had advanced from Divine King First Level to Divine Emperor Fifth Level. He also killed the Lin Family’s Old Ancestor after the latter refused to provide information about Lin Yichen’s incomplete soul. The Old Ancestor realized that Chen Changan, rather than Treading Moon, was the true powerhouse protecting the Chen Family. 793

During a subsequent ten-year cultivation period, Chen Changan supplied abundant resources to the household. The threat posed by Liuyun Divine Emperor motivated everyone to work harder so that they would not become a burden to him. Chen Changping advanced three cultivation levels, while Meng Xiaoxiao reached Half-step Divine Emperor. 801

Chen Changan later learned that the body born into this family had not altered his original bloodline or physique. His other self explained that he had no biological connection to the household, although he owed it a tremendous favor; his appearance had made the birth of a child possible rather than displacing an existing child. 872

Heavenly Derivation Chen Family

The Chen Family encountered by Chen Tianxing on the Heavenly Derivation Continent derives its surname from Chen Changan’s father rather than from ordinary blood descent. Its ancestor had been an abandoned child rescued by Chen Changan’s father, who gave him the Chen surname and ordered his descendants to obey his “Young Master” if he ever appeared. 3187 3189

The ancestral command placed the Young Master’s status above that of the family’s own ancestor. Chen Shouzheng publicly invoked this instruction to establish Chen Changan’s authority over the clan. 3188 3189

Internal conflict

Before Chen Tianxing’s return, Wang Ba investigated the Chen and Qin Families and discovered that Chen Tianyang was involved in plans to harm him. Tianxing identified his Second and Third Uncles as the deeper forces behind the conspiracy, since they wanted their sons to compete for leadership of the lineage. His father and grandfather had secretly restrained them but avoided an open confrontation to prevent the family from splitting. Tianxing intended to use the family’s resources and support to reform it from within rather than genuinely forget its treatment of him. 3176

Chen Tianxing, the Family Head’s biological eldest grandson, returned after being cast out. He intended to restore his standing within the clan before confronting his second and third uncles, but branch-family members blocked his entry and denied his membership. 3185

Chen Shouzheng defended Tianxing and accused the second and third branches of covertly targeting him. Tianxing revealed that the Qin Family had suppressed his talent and that he had killed the clansmen sent to assassinate him in Heavenly Martial City. 3187

When family members accused Tianxing of colluding with outsiders and killing his kin, Chen Changan confirmed that the victims had allied with the Qin Family to murder his disciple. Chen Shouzheng formally restored Tianxing’s membership and recognized Chen Changan as Young Master. The Second and Third Uncles then sought support from the clan elders to overturn these decisions. 3188

The family’s elders and Shouzheng’s sons challenged Chen Changan’s authority despite the ancestor’s command. Chen Changan answered that the Chen surname had been granted by his father’s line and could likewise be reclaimed; he exempted Chen Tianxing’s immediate family from this threat. 3190 3191

Second Brother argued that Chen Changan’s Primordial Ancient Venerable Realm cultivation did not justify placing him above stronger family members. His challenge also exposed his ambition to become Family Head. Some elders apologized and pleaded for the surname to be retained, while other clansmen continued supporting Second Brother. The division allowed Chen Changan and Chen Shouzheng to distinguish those who respected the ancestral command from those who rejected it. 3191

After the internal dissenters were removed, the family reported that its atmosphere and cultivation progress had improved. The Liu Family then began watching the clan with hostile intent. 3194

Recovery and the Liu Family’s hostility

Despite the deaths caused by the internal conflict, the remaining clansmen found that the lineage had become more peaceful and harmonious, with improved cultivation progress rather than the devastating decline they had feared. Many attributed these changes to Chen Changan’s presence, increasing his prestige within the family. He withdrew from further interference and returned to cultivation once the principal disputes had been settled. 3194

Chen Tianxing reached the Ninth-Tier Primordial Saint Venerable Realm during seclusion but remained dissatisfied with his ability to help his master. His father advised him to follow his own path steadily, avoid disappointing Chen Changan, and not become overly dependent on him. 3194

The Heavenly Derivation Liu Family had once benefited from life-saving assistance given by a Chen ancestor. Its subsequent hostility puzzled the Chen Family, which had never demanded repayment. Chen Changan suggested that an unrepayable favor could produce guilt, pressure, and resentment toward the benefactor. This Liu Family relationship is distinct from the former-vassal arrangement documented in Great Zhou. 3 3194

Other Documented Chen Families

Chen Shaojie’s family

A separate Chen Family appears in the dispute involving Young Family Head Chen Shaojie. His father reprimanded him for provoking someone from the Meng Family, explaining that the Meng Family possessed three Xiantian Realm experts and additional backing that the Chen Family could not match. 894

Second Tribulation family

During Chen Changan’s Second Tribulation, a Chen Family turned on him while he was physically weakened. Its Patriarch attempted to hand him to the Lin Family in exchange for the clan’s advancement, prompting Chen Changan to massacre the family. This episode belongs to the tribulation setting and is not established as the fate of the North Xuan Chen Family. 1533 1553 1554

As the slaughter began, relatives appealed to their former relationships with Chen Changan, including a third uncle and a cousin who claimed to have been his childhood friend. Chen Changan rejected these appeals because the family had already treated him as something to be sold rather than as kin. 1554

Chen Changan’s Immediate Lineage

Chen Changan’s immediate family is also referred to as the Chen Family in discussions of his relatives and their shared habits. These references do not establish that all separately documented Chen clans belong to one continuous organization. 1495 2227
